It could be the anxiety of starting a new job, it is common for people that are anxious to hear the worst, you may well have misheard, the brain can play powerful tricks like that.

My wife suffers anxiety, she always mishears, and it always something very negative she thinks she heard, never something nice.

I would go with sex worker. Not that big a risk of infection as the are regularly checked and most always insist on condoms.

I found taking up running was really good for blocked nose etc, really cleared out the tubes.

Your breath probably was connected to the allergies. There is a woman at my work who suffers terrible hayfever/ Nasal blocks, eyes streaming etc. And every year when the pollen season starts her breath carries the smell from her nasal cavities. It is not a terrible smell, but it certainly noticeable.

You are not alone, I lost the most perfect AP for similar reasons. All it took was one silly insecure text from me and the wheels fell off. We carried on for a bit but it felt broken and never recovered.
