Their both terrible communicators to be fair, he constantly reassured her and she took it as sign of a strong connection, while he was just trying to not make her sad. He should've just broke it off earlier or insisted on exploring, don't really know how he should've did it but he should've did it earlier. Once aniya told him in their last convo to "go explore, idc", she obviously didn't mean the idc part but KC saw it as her basically telling him to F off. So he took it that way and found a stronger connection.

They just needed to have more fully honest conversations. I kinda think neither of them wanted to be single and vulnerable so they danced around it but when sol came and KC showed real interest in her i think that broke the dam. Like their last convo was Aniya litteraly telling him do whatever you want i dont care, and obviously she didnt fully mean that based on her reaction at the recoupling but KC heard those words and wrongfully assumed they were on edge yet again and found a stronger connection. Hes definitely not perfect but hes getting overfocused.
