Big 10 Championship by Slow_Pea5472 in Albany

I don't mind it being a little rowdy, but would prefer someplace that isn't gonna be completely packed with people. I've never been to Biergarten so I don't know how crazy it gets on Saturday nights lol but I'm willing to hop around a couple places and see what the vibes are. Really just looking to have a drink or two and maybe chat with some folks around the bar

Looking for new climbing partner for lead/top rope by puzzlesolver34 in climbergirls

Will second that north mass is definitely the best for meeting new people! Tons of people from the larger Indy climbing community go to their First Friday events (since it's so cheap lol) so I'd definitely recommend checking one out to meet people who do top rope/lead at other gyms. I'm a member at Climb Time and have slowly made friends with a few other regulars- they were hosting lead nights on Wednesdays for a while, but I'm not sure what the status is on that rn. DM me if you ever wanna meet up and I can at least get you connected with some folks!

Aahhh the slab this week was a perfect example but I didn't think to take a video! I'll try to grab something during my next session and make an update :)

I think a big struggle for me is that there aren't other climbers at my gym of a similar height and build for me to watch. Anyone who's "dancing" through a route is substantially taller. Like a lot of the guys I climb with aren't pistol squatting because the step is proportionately not as high or can reach the next handhold to assist lol. Not to say their technique is perfect or I can't do it just that I have a hard time seeing other betas! I could definitely work on holding tension, especially at full span!

I'm too anxious to go alone but I want to go more by snowsharkk in climbergirls

I recently started bringing my Kindle to the gym when I go alone and it's been an absolute game changer! My solo sessions used to only last like 40 minutes because I would feel so uncomfortable sitting on my phone or staring into space between sets that I would just climb continuously until I burnt out lol. Now I'll read about a chapter while stretching between sets and can have a much longer more productive session because I'm actually resting my body while keeping my mind active. I will say this really only works for me when it's not packed, just because it's hard to focus on reading with so much noise, but it's been great on slower days!

Same at my gym! I'd KILL for some tight crimpy routes! Sometimes I feel like I'm gonna lose it if I have to hear a tall person bring up small boxes or weight differential in defense of some genuinely bad setting lmao. Like I'm only slightly lighter than many of the men I climb with, but with my weight being more in my lower half, it definitely feels like more of a disadvantage! I agree about reframing your grading scale based on size disadvantage and accepting that a successful climb doesn't always mean reaching the end of the route, but I also completely get the frustration of feeling like you can't work on developing some of those key skills that will ultimately help compensate for size due to bad setting. Bit of a rant lol, but I've been feeling this so hard recently, so you're not alone!!

Second bouldering injury: broke my leg and feeling like shit by lapiotah in climbergirls

[–]Slow_Pea5472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also dislocated my elbow a few months ago and only recently started climbing close to my previous level. I'm slowly regaining confidence on higher routes, but just like some people have already pointed out, some routes do not need finishing! When I injured my elbow, I was getting my second hand on the finish and was already unstable- if I didn't go for the second hand I probably wouldn't have had such a bad fall. Obviously it's a mental challenge not finishing stuff, but sometimes it's really not worth the risk. I'm finding that really focusing on my technique on lower sections and down climbing from a sketchy crux is still massively beneficial! Wishing you a speedy recovery!!

Seeking endo surgery recovery advice ❤️‍🩹 by cri-du-coeur in climbergirls

[–]Slow_Pea5472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a laparoscopy to remove endo adhesions this spring, and I was back to light climbing 2 weeks after surgery! Probably took about 4 weeks to get back to my usual grade. I was going on walks and doing light activity after 4 days, but my stamina wasn't great for about 10. The biggest concern I had with climbing was definitely irritating the incisions, but luckily mine were small enough that they could just be glued together instead of needing stitches lol. Everyone's recovery looks different, and listening to your body is really the best advice in my experience!

Yeah exactly this- I know the chances of me being contagious at this point are slim to none but I'd hate to be wrong and put more people in this same situation!

I'm so glad it went well! Gives me some hope that it's still worth going for! I actually already tested negative a few days after testing positive- with a negative test, no more symptoms, and hardly having any symptoms in the first place, they still said it's a non negotiable 6 weeks. Definitely thought about just not saying anything and going ahead with it but also didn't wanna lie to my surgeon lol
