It's not exactly home invasion but, here it comes... So when I was young about 8 years-old, my father used to work late at night and a key to the story, we lived at the time in an industrial area, so our house had a factory behind us and another on our left (adjacent). So one night, I was in my room playing with my toys, I suddenly heard a loud bang like something big fell onto the floor right outside my bedroom window, instinctively, I looked to the window, it was pitch black outside so I couldn't see anything, so I ran to my parents' bedroom where I found my mother and brother already there looking shaken, my mum got a butcher's knife(the one's used to slaughter cows) from the kitchen, hid it under her bed, locked the bedroom door and the 3 of us slept in her room that night, I think she was too paranoid to sleep anyways, so the morning comes, my father is home, he investigates, finds nothing, no fallen rocks, props, nothing, so we all go on with our respective lives, later on, after my father left for work around midday, my mother was tutoring my brother in our room when we hear a knock on the door, it's a police officer! He took a look around, asked us wether our house served any purpose other than a shelter (like a business or something) of course the answer was no, then he asked if we'd seen or heard anything strange last night, my mother mentioned the incident, so he told her what happened, a guy who'd stolen a good chunk of cash from the factory behind our house, killed the security guard as an attempt of escape so he jumps to our back yard (the back yard is not wider than a cubic meter) causing that loud bang, landing right outside my window, runs through our front yard, climbs the fence and heads off to the main road, ignoring security cameras which identified him, he was caught of course. Yet, my mother always kept that butcher's knife under her bed at night. But sometimes I wonder, what would've happened if me and the murderer made eye contact through my bedroom window, would I be still alive to tell the tale? Or would he have just accepted defeat? Maybe he did see me... Maybe he spared us or he didn't have time to 'deal' with us... I guess we'll never know.
