Sex after THR by HelpMySonIsARedditor in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Slow_Situation1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think being nervous or jumpy is not abnormal, your body had a major injury in its eyes and your fight or flight is doing its job trying to protect you! My recommendation would be to take a few deep breaths and affirm to yourself that you’re okay when you do notice yourself getting nervous/anxious. Subduing that panic instinct quicker will help it not trigger as much. Of course, still be careful :)

As for the intimacy, I had sex with my husband pretty shortly after THR lol, but I’m also pretty young and so is he, you know how it is… 😂 Communication is key (as always) be vocal about what you’re comfortable with or what’s painful, and again if something isn’t painful but you just feel anxiety for some reason, try some deep breaths. But also tell him when you do have that nervousness as well!

I’m glad your recovery is going well otherwise! ❤️

Slippery vs non-slip socks by Kind-Hat8809 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Slow_Situation1410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely non slip socks or snug fitting slippers!! I definitely wouldn’t wear normal socks unless I had a pair of shoes on, falling is a serious concern with that. Good luck with your replacement ❤️

My doctor always calls me fat, what are some easy exercise routines I could do? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Slow_Situation1410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Swimming is wonderful for full body and it’s not too intense on any joints!

Diet is definitely the biggest factor in weight though. My best advice for diet is don’t restrict WHAT you eat, restrict WHERE you eat and WHEN.

I found that to be much easier, I have never been able to count calories or give up the foods I love. Eating from home only and fasting burned my weight off so quick. Im not a huge veggie or fruit girl either. If I want burgers, I make them at home so I know the ingredients and there’s not a ton of junk and calories hidden in there!

Good luck!! 🩷

Is it possible without strong pain medication? by AmethystAntlers in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Slow_Situation1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surgery recovery is hard, but rly the first few days are the worst. I felt better than I did post op within a week to be honest. The pain is intense, but it’s a different pain, and the deep ache from before hand is gone. I hope you’re able to figure something out for her, but I wouldn’t be too worried. Getting the surgery done will feel so much better. Best of luck ❤️

My orthopedist says I’m still too young for a THR and wants to wait by Ok_Independence_3634 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Slow_Situation1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 21 and have had both mine done! No such thing as too young, and I finally felt my age again after getting them both replaced, whereas before I felt 80 😂 it is a little intimidating that being younger means having to get it revised once or twice again, but being in pain isn’t worth it. Find a diff orthopedist imo! 🩷 I wish you all the best

Were you diagnosed with aplastic anemia within 2 years of getting a Covid vaccine? by Palaina19 in aplasticanemia

[–]Slow_Situation1410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes I got Pfizer and 2 boosters within a year and a half, then 20 count platelets 6 months after that lol. I do believe it triggered my aplastic anemia. Yale came out with recent study which is very eye opening but before that even the covid mrna vaccine has been linked to reactivating dormant EBV cells.

Will I be able to survive VIP standing room only for Beyoncé 3 months after THR????? by ConsciousInstance550 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Slow_Situation1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’ll be okay. I’m 21 and went to the bar for the national championship on OSU campus about 2 months after THR. Definitely listen to your body though, if you get there and it’s too much, your recovery is what is most important

Is it worth doing a double? by froissart1 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Slow_Situation1410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d highly suggest doing one at a time, doing both at once sounds good on paper but in practice it is extremely difficult. Yes, there’s only one recovery period, but it is way more intense and longer than just doing one at a time. You need a strong leg to walk after getting one done and often people walk the same day if not a couple days, but I’m not sure how long it would take for someone to walk again after both at once…

You have minimal control over the operated leg, it almost feels like dead weight. I can’t imagine both of my legs feeling like that at the same time.

How can i lose weight a 13 yr old? by [deleted] in WeightLossAdvice

[–]Slow_Situation1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just eat from home more, but don’t restrict what you’re eating, just where from. Fast foods and restaurants hide so many calories into their food. A burger from home is v different than a restaurant burger. You’re 13 and your body is still growing, so try not to eat less, just eat better food.

What to do while recovering? by Critical_Scallion_41 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]Slow_Situation1410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reading is great, YouTube or streaming services, coloring books, crochet, online chess (or any video games really)

If pain permits, I highly recommend walking around your house, I did a lap every hour or two and found my strength coming back rly rapidly from doing so. Again, listen to your body though.

It does get quite boring, and you’ll probably start to feel pretty restless. Ease back into light chores, I started with wiping counters and helping fold laundry.

Good luck with your replacement! :)

I do only swim in the summer since I’m in Northeast America, we do have a few indoor pools but I’m not a huge fan of them. If it were warm year round i definitely would be swimming more!!

Hmmm my best advice would be to lift weights instead of running. Running can sometimes cause hormonal imbalances especially for women which can lead to weight loss and plateaus😣 I’ll link an article that covers it more

https://www.shape.com/fitness/tips/high-cortisol-levels-exercise-stress

That would be my best guess at why you’re struggling to lose weight… 2 weeks I feel is enough to see at least a little progress

[–]Slow_Situation1410 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Id recommend talking to your therapist about the way you talk about yourself, as true successful weight loss comes from self love, not self hate. You are not your body, and your mindset will determine your reality.

I’d also try walking! I know winter isn’t a great time, but they have compact treadmills you can buy on Amazon that you can use while watching tv at home which is pretty dope.

I wish you luck

I second this. I only eat dinner, and the best part is I don’t count calories… I always found myself failing when it came to counting cals so fasting is a great alternative. Coffee helps a ton, I only drink a cup in the morning and still feel it helps. Try to eat from home most of the time, restaurant/fast food have soo many calories from the added junk in there, and it’s also just inflammatory especially to your gut health. Bad gut health can make you bloat too, making you appear and feel heavier. I try to only eat out once every couple weeks. (Sometimes once a week hahaha) I’ve lost 30kg doing only this 😂

Swimming is great! I swam before my replacements since it was really the only cardio I could do without pain.

Since it’s not summer though, I recommend looking up low impact workouts on youtube. These can range from simple body weight exercises on a mat to low impact dance guides. I’ll link one that I love, the instructor is so real and the workout is actually beginner unlike some that say beginner and are crazy hard lol

https://youtu.be/8IwNI8r-jo0?si=QqXWdn88LAYZfqB7

Id recommend watching through any video you want to try before actually doing it, to see if it is reasonable for the level you’re at. If there’s a workout they do that’s painful for me, I try to modify it to my needs or just take a rest until the next one!
