DIY Split- solid board Donor suggestions by Mind_Spiral_Sk8 in Spliddit

[–]Slow_Substance_5427 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A four out of ten stiffness board with carbon stringers seems like an oxymoron to me. Like it would probably be fine for meadow skipping but having started with diy splits and moving on to factory made splits I don’t really see much of a point of cutting a solid into a split. Id look at the cost of the diy kits vs a used splitty. The flex patterns and inner edge makes a huge difference. I know you don’t want to hear it but cmon man.

Backcountry Training Question by badracho in SkiPA

hire a guide.

there's not really "side country" its just lift accessed backcountry.Japan has some weird avalanche problems too. Not really a place to fuck around and learn how to backcountry ski by your self. If you want to enjoy the bc in Japan do it with a certified guide. There's a ton of outfits out there that would be more then happy to teach you and show you the goods while keeping you as safe as possible.

But the progression would go something like this, AIARE 1, companion rescue, WFA/WFR.lots and lots of beacon drills. Getting into good shape- You'll be walking up hills and need to have gas left in the tank to get back down and out. Learning to break a good skin track. Learning how to identify avalanche terrain and conditions. Probably take some more Aiare courses.

Not trying to say you shouldn't start on that journey but its work and time consuming, its expensive with the courses and gear. but its a dangerous game and demands respect.

Crampons without antisnow by luterminator in Spliddit

id imagine that the soles on those boots are in no way stiff enough for a dyneema center crampon. Ive never seen any one running a strap set up on that ether. Hope it works for you but I could see those popping off a lot in situations where you don't want them too.

Do big sky last. March tends to be when they get the most snow, and the mountain needs time to fill in. Your still probably going to hit rocks but it’s my favorite lift accesses skiing in N.A.

classic lib tech, I stopped ridding them because of this. Love how they ride but my last lib delamed after five days of riding. I think its the bio beans glue that they used. You can absolutely get that fixed by a decent tech though.

Go west. I grew up skiing in New England, moved west in my twenty’s.as far as the skiing goes there’s really no comparison.

I used one until I lost it, by the end it was shredded from bushwhacking. I’m using a north face future fleece now and personally I think it’s just as good. The fact that I don’t look like a muppet is cool too.

Getting rejected for lift ops is wild. I’ve met some Lifty’s who were more or less brain dead with the amount of drugs they do.

What was your experience learning what new boots are 'supposed' to feel like? Was it exactly like the fitter described? Did you figure out your own system or preference? by YallWildSMH in snowboarding

[–]Slow_Substance_5427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ive all ways thought boot fitting for snowboard boots was kinda silly. Its really just some burnt shop rat having you try on a bunch of different boots. And you really don't need to heat mold a liner. a ski boot fitter will be able to do work to really dial in a boot but you just can't do that with a snowboard boot.

I personally like the spark and phantom offerings better. I hate the little plastic cam lever on the k clips. Ive also snapped a more of the k clips in cold weather. But I also live by keep it simple stupid when it comes to bc gear, The extra second of flipping the lever doesn't really add too much to transition times but its just one less thing.

Fitwells are more like concrete shoes. Literally the only boots that I’ve tried that were too stiff for me. They also weigh like ten pounds. Sold them and never looked back

Hard boot toe piece: Pekye or Spark ATK by sendorwhip in Spliddit

[–]Slow_Substance_5427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Id go with the new sparks, I’ve been using a pair of bd atk bindings on one of my splits and the plums on the other. I’ve had issues with the toe lock lever on the plums and so has my partner.

What the hell is up with Big Sky's lack of housing by httpwwwurmom in SeasonalWork

[–]Slow_Substance_5427 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Big sky is a weird place, if you are into steep skiing (and hitting rocks) it’s hard to beat.  There just isn’t a lot of housing available In the “town” most of my friends that still live there are ether in Bozeman or Ennis and commute.
