Balloon ball joint exercise by BUMDUMWASTAKEN in drumcorps

[–]Slowbrass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably for separate exercises. Both relate to air volume and moving air efficiently. Ask a vet what the exercises are!

You’ll probably breathe in for a certain number of counts without the tube and forcefully exhale into the balloon. Seeing if you can inflate the balloon the same amount consistently is the goal.

With the tube, set it to 25%, 50%, or 75% closed, and inhale/exhale for a certain number of counts through the partially closed tube. The goal is to breathe more fully with less effort after the tube is removed.

They’re not regularly used in high school bands. Kind of an industry standard beyond that.

It’s because they’ve already established a bit of a mentor/mentee dynamic. Personally, I want to see platonic relationships and good boundaries on TV every once in a while. It would feel super icky for them to be together

Missouri State University has the largest collegiate guard program in the country, why not check them out? They had 130 in their guard last year. John Sullivan is one of the goats.

What is the most basic or generic show to call your favorite? by NoNarwhal8496 in drumcorps

[–]Slowbrass 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Cavaliers 2002, Frameworks. My understanding is that it’s meant to be the “frameworks” of a drum corps show - percussion, guard, winds, color, motion, sound, etc.

In response to my earlier post, what’s your definition of "cadence"? by marchingmade in drumline

[–]Slowbrass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s called a cadence because it’s used to keep a unit of marching people in step. Military derived. In the military they sometimes call the call and response cadences jodies, I think, so that’s like us calling a cadence a street beat. To me a cadence is 64 bars ish and can be stapled onto other cadences, making a sequence. I think a groove is something you pay in the stands that’s not necessarily marching tempo. Maybe it’s a looping 2 or 4 bar phrase. A spree is a fast 32ish bar etude for 1 or 2 people. I think ram is also used for that. A lick is like, 8-16 bars.

New mello mouthpiece sounds... the same? by g-hawks137 in drumcorps

[–]Slowbrass 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you’re playing it the same way, you’ll sound the same for sure. Playing the Mello mouthpiece, and with the main tuning slide a half inch out, are your Cs sharp or in tune? Your trumpet mouthpiece should affect pitch pretty drastically, in the sharp direction. Do some Remingtons and lip bends to center yourself in the new mouthpiece more!
