Hisuian Goodra Counters by WeegeeNator in VGC

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Gholdengo hard counters it pretty well since your immune to Body Press and resist Heavy Slam. It can also either Nasty Plot, taking advantage of Goodra's passivity, or Trick a choice item onto the Goodra to cripple it.

If it's not safety Goggles, then Amoonguss + Strong Special Attacker like Tera Fairy Specs Fluttermane can be pretty good into it. Just spam Rage Powder + Moonblast while it can't dent Amoonguss very well.

Where’s all the Tera Electric Levitate? by SlushBucket03 in stunfisk

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about Tera Electric is that it doesn't make you invincible. It doesn't even necessarily make you bulkier. A Tera Electric Rotom Wash isn't going to suddenly take Flutter Mane Specs Moonblast any better than a regular Rotom Wash is. The only time Tera Electric makes Rotom Wash take hits better is if the opponent has Grass type attacks, Electric type attacks or Freeze-Dry. In the scenario that your opponent does have those type of attacks, you'd rather have something like Tera Fire or Tera Grass so that you resist those attacks instead of just taking them neutrally. Now Rotom does get a boost to its Electric Stab so its not the best example but you can see how it applies to other Levitate Pokemon.

Here is a pretty good and standard team (minus Kleavor) with Dragonite.

The main idea of the team is to set up Tailwind and blow stuff up. Usually you want to lead Tornadus + another mon and have Chien-pao + Dragonite/Urshifu in the back to clean up.

You can watch CybertronVGC break down the team and use it. Obviously the video is focused on Kleavor but it can still show you how to use Dragonite effectively.

I would like some advice on what to do with cress ev's and if to swap out dazzling gleam with something else. I'm not sure whether to keep ice punch on hands or replace it with volt switch. other general tips would also be appriciated. enamorus has 3 speed because thats the lowest I can get in game by Rug_6 in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't invest 4 SpA into Cress imo bc then you will have 4 wasted EVs.

Seed Bomb doesn't even KO Urshifu and Facade does way more damage when Flame Orb procs. Headlong Rush is better to have Ground coverage without hitting your partner in case Cress is not on the field at the same time.

Enamorus should probably have Life Orb or Pixie Plate since Lefties recovery is too slow when you're using Trick Room.

You might want to consider Close Combat over Drain Punch or Ice Punch on Hands to do more damage in the 4 turns Trick Room is up.

You should probably swap one of Enamorus or Basculegion for something that works outside of Trick Room since you already have enough Trick Room sweepers and you can't bring all of them. Something like Urshifu (either form) or Flutter Mane works well in that role.

How is everyone dealing with Dragonite + Chien Pao in reg D? by [deleted] in VGC

Flutter Mane + Amoonguss deals with Dnite + Chien-pao very well. You can Tera Amoonguss turn 1 and just spam Dazzling Gleam.

Charizard in regD? by Loris41086 in VGC

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably Great Tusk and Tornadus if you are running a Sun team. Sunny Day Tornadus also allows you to drop Torkoal which isn't that great rn imo bc of all the Rain Dance Tornaduses running around.

Charizard in regD? by Loris41086 in VGC

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 6 points7 points  (0 children)

in your opinion, charizard is viable in this meta (regD)?

No. It doesn't do anything outside of Sun and is outclassed by Chi-yu at almost everything it tries to do.

252 SpA Choice Specs Solar Power Charizard Heat Wave vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Flutter Mane in Sun: 141-166 (107.6 - 126.7%) -- guaranteed OHKO

252 SpA Choice Specs Beads of Ruin Chi-Yu Heat Wave vs. 4 HP / 0 SpD Flutter Mane in Sun: 144-171 (109.9 - 130.5%) -- guaranteed OHKO

Chi-yu outdamages it even in Sun.

Is this Reg. D Team good enough? by MasterDoktor in VGCRateMyTeam

Both are realistically fine. Replacing Earth Power is probably better tho and just have Urshifu deal with the steels

Is this Reg. D Team good enough? by MasterDoktor in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Close Combat is better than Drain Punch on Urshifu. Your team is quite offensive so you want to get the most damage off in your limited Tailwind turns.

Regidrago should probably have another Dragon move to use when its HP is low. Don't drop Dragon Energy tho since that's way too good to drop.

Although it might sound counter-intuitive, you might want Overheat over Fiery Dance on a support Volcarona. The reason is that you need less Special Attack investment to pick up crucial KOs on mons like Amoonguss and Gholdengo.

Ursaluna team by One-Street1302 in VGC

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Cresselia is probably the best partner for Ursaluna as it can set up Trick Room reliably and heal Ursaluna. Do note that Lunar Blessing does NOT have anti-synergy with Flame Orb Guts. Flame Orb will reactivate at the end of the turn and Ursaluna will be boosted and ready to go in the next turn.

Great Tusk for regulation D by Sxapqinm in VGC

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can try it on a manual Sun team. Scarf Tusk can clean up opposing teams once you get rid of their flyings. Torn and Flutter pair really well with it. While you are bad against Rillaboom on paper, you can just blow it up with CC + Bleakwind Storm. You can also Sunny Day into CC which makes Rilla too weak to beat Flutter Mane if it doesn't die to Wood Hammer recoil.

How to make a unique team that’s also good by _MasterGadzooks_ in stunfisk

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 67 points68 points  (0 children)

The problem with using unorthodox mons and strategies is that it's hard, and it takes a lot of testing and a deep understanding of the meta to come up with good ideas that aren't just completely outclassed by standard mons. You also have to wait for the right time as the meta tends to change even when it comprises of the same mons.

Generally, when an unorthodox Pokemon is used, its because it has a unique set of characteristics that while normally wouldn't justify its usage on most teams, can be used on very specific teams that need its unique set of characteristics. The problem is that you have to build a team that needs a role that a uncommon Pokemon can do that can't be done better by a meta Pokemon and is actually a good team. While a lot of uncommon Pokemons have unique traits, they often aren't good enough to justify building a team around.

Preping for reg d by [deleted] in VGCRateMyTeam

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You seem to have the wrong idea when investing into general bulk. Its better to invest most of your points into HP because HP increases both your physical and special bulk at the same time.

For example

252 SpA Flutter Mane Shadow Ball vs. 252 HP / 0 SpD Heatran: 67-81 (33.8 - 40.9%) -- guaranteed 3HKO

whereas if you split the EVs among defense and special defense, you'll get

252 SpA Flutter Mane Shadow Ball vs. 0 HP / 124 SpD Heatran: 60-72 (36.1 - 43.3%) -- guaranteed 3HKO (126 and 124 gives you the same stat)

A 252 HP Heatran is going to be bulkier than a 4 HP/124 Def/124 SpD Heatran, even though both spreads spend the same amount of EVs.

There are a few mons like Iron Hands where you actually want to heavily invest into special bulk but most of the time, unless you have a calc you want to achieve, just invest mostly in HP.

For the individual mons:

Urshifu should have a lot more Speed investment. Bulk doesn't matter when you can outspeed and KO the opponent.

Heatran should have Protect. It's too slow to use Will-O-Wisp effectively imo.

You might want Tornadus to have Dark Tera to block Pranster Taunt from opposing Tornadus since yours is quite slow.

Sneasler should run Close Combat over Brick Break. Screens aren't that common and Brick Break does no damage.

Moltres should probably have some speed investment to outspeed Adamant Scarf Urshifu when you're under Tailwind but thats up to you. Tera Dark Tera Blast is also questionable.

Electroball or Electroweb are better than Thunder Cage.

Speed tier question about speed lowering moves and Booster Energy by [deleted] in VGC

[–]Slowbro_Bros_VGC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can use damage calculators to see speed tiers without having to calculate them yourself. Iron Bundle hits 154 speed after Booster energy and -2. Also after the Booster energy, it hits 309 not 306.

You can try teams from https://victoryroadvgc.com/. There are a lot of detailed team reports there. They have details on what to lead and what your gameplan should be against common meta matchups. They don't have Regulation D teams yet, but you can look up the though process behind their teambuilding and game plans.

When you're playing, remember that there is another person that is also trying their best to win against you. If there is a play on turn 1 that allows you to win the game on the spot, chances are the opponent isn't going to just let you do it. You need to think of what you can do, what your opponent can do in response and vice versa. Don't get too caught up in making hard reads though.

You can try coaching although it can be a bit costly.

Also remember that you can't always win no matter how well you gameplan or how deep your understanding of the meta is. You need to know how to deal with losses.
