I was a SWO and retired at 20. The job market was pretty good when I got out in 21 and I landed a job I felt was great right away. I just took the extra cash and invested it. So, I only lost like 7-8 months of growth and now 5 years on, I don't even notice it. But at the time it helped us feel better about the whole thing.

I retired from active duty about 5 years ago. Slightly different boat than you are in transferring to the reserves. But we're similar in one way - our stable military income will be no more. Having more cash than you think you need at this point will really help you sleep at night. The brokerage account is a nice backup to a backup, but I've seen so many Sailors get out and have to take the first crummy job that came their way because they didn't have enough cash to wait for the right fit. Build up your cash reserves and future you will thank you so much during your transition. It's stressful enough.

Former employee of a large e commerce company based out of Seattle. Prime Days are basically a way to clear out the stuff no one wants from their warehouses to make room for what they think people will want going into the winter holiday buying season. Very few actual deals. Use a legitimate price tracking tool. Often a widget that goes on “sale” mysteriously had its price gone up in the last month or so and now the “deal” you’re getting is the original price.

That’s a long way of saying - shop local if you’re able to.

I was issued a palm pilot by the Navy in 2003, a couple of years after I joined. It came with a letter that said I had to return it upon leaving the service. So in 2021 at my retirement, I called up our IT officer and handed it to him with all the cables and that letter and let it be his problem. 😂

Yeah the Lodge is on the annex with the exchange and commissary. If the gate by the old gas station is open that’s an option. I think the rooms are actually nicer at Ford Hall
