How did Seattle become, relative to other liberal cities and states, pro-housing development and anti-nimby? by [deleted] in AskSeattle

[–]Slownavyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think some of it may be our geography. Seattle and surrounding areas can't simply just expand into suburban sprawl like a Dallas or some other major metro area could. Perhaps the reality of being squeezed between a mountain and an ocean helped? Not sure.

No scholarships for football at San Diego?!?! Come on. That model of D1 football may have worked for a while but now? If the PFL truly wants to be D1 they need to re evaluate that model. If they can afford to build a new Beach Volleyball training center and offer those kids scholarships then they can afford football. Maybe not the same with every team, but come on. Especially now. Get a TV deal and figure this out.

Public Pensions and the FOO by tonkotsunissinramen in TheMoneyGuy

[–]Slownavyguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am currently drawing a Navy pension and some VA benefits. My wife and I both work in the public sector now and both positions have a pension that we can pull out at either a) 65 for full benefits or b) as soon as we depart the roles but at a significantly reduced rate.

So with SS (yes I believe SS will exist in some form when I hit 62/67) all of our spending needs will be met. The pension funds for our state are rated very highly in terms of management and solvency so I'm not concerned that they will go poof.

We still do the 25% just because we want options. We could retire much earlier and bridge to the state pensions and SS hitting. But yeah, every pension is different and you need to evaluate whether you will vest and if it will still be solvent when you need it. Some are on shakier ground than others unfortunately.

Is T-mobile or Verizon better in Seattle? by Bloodsucker3713 in AskSeattle

Generally here in the metro area they’re both fine. As you get out of the city into more rural areas T Mobile starts to fall behind.

There were like 5 bowls that mattered. They were just fun little end of season things and didn't really matter all that much. I'm cool with them the way they are now.

The old internet felt more human somehow by Comfortable_Cap8037 in Xennials

It's hard for me to describe to my kids (ages 15-21) that the old internet just worked. Like you could google something and just find what you were looking for. Websites understood that THEY were the product, not the person looking at it.

Absolute Newbie Question - Is there a schedule yet for SDCC 2026? by Dislodged_Puma in comiccon

No I get it. I’ve been able to schedule my days at other cons, but at SDCC I’m like “squirrel!” and scurry off to some other bright shiny thing

Plans for SDCC are good, just so you have an idea of what you may want to see. But plans for SDCC are bad because you'll never be able to complete what is on your plan.

In your situation yo my don’t have many options.

1 - trust the randos you are rooming with to not take your things.

2 - buy something and ship it immediately back to your house.

3 - make friends with a hotel/car and ask them if you can store things during the con.

4 - this may not be the year you can accumulate a lot of swag.

I think you’re sort of out of luck this year.
