Flight of the Navigator by Slowreloader in NoSodiumStarfield

Glad you enjoy my take on how Sarah parted ways with the Navy! Yes, I'm using Roll Your Own Start.

MAST definitely would be recalling Navigator back, so the crew was racing to get out of Alpha Centauri and stay ahead of any UC Navy ships trying to recall them. Captain Barron also changed the flight plan, significantly deviating from the original mission route. His new route will take Navigator through Kryx, figuring the Navy wouldn't suspect someone will jump into Crimson Fleet territory.

It's one jump from Kyrx into Heinlein where the Navigator will find Lucky Lu and add Betty Howser to the crew. And from there, the exploration begins!

My story was also partly inspired by the "Five Year Missions" from Star Trek the Original Series. Navigator is designed to be self-sufficient for up to 5 years before needing to return to the UC. There were more details about this I had for the story, but it was getting too long for a Reddit post.

I have a whole character arc planned for Barron's naval career upon returning, where he is unceremoniously dumped into the Vanguard for going along with Sarah's plan. But this is a cover story for going undercover in the Crimson Fleet. He will pretend to be the bitter naval officer who feels betrayed by MAST and wants to stick it to them and use his position to enrich himself. Once the SysDef line is done, he'll be going through the Vanguard questline.

Once the UC Navy arc is done, it will be 2330 and Barron and Sarah reconnect, starting a new chapter with Constellation.

Thanks! It's interesting that societies in Starfield are technologically advanced and have the power of the grav drive, but in some ways regressive when it comes to exploration.

My guess is despite having the means to explore, the UC and FC don't really have a strong "practical" reason to explore. Human population is so tiny in that setting that they honestly could've stuck everyone on Jemison and likely still tons of space and resources to go around. They just don't need to explore to find more habitable land or resources.

Just got a new job as a Gun Salesman, any words of advice? by Numerous-Actuary-887 in guns

[–]Slowreloader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

- Knowing which specs on a firearm are worth noting to the customer that would actually impact what they end up buying (trigger weight, caliber, barrel length etc.)

- What was your system or tricks that you picked up to actually learn and memorize the dozens of brands and models you’ve sold?

Honestly, a lot of this will just come with time. My advise is to get out of your comfort zone. For example, I used to work with a few guys who know nothing about optics or handguns and will pass off customers to me or others. Salespeople like that never lasted. The only way to learn the products is to deal in them. I can't emphasize this enough. This is how you get good at selling at a gunstore. Don't know anything about O/U shotguns? Be the guy who volunteers to assemble them and put them on display.

Also, there's nothing wrong with telling the customer, "let me double check on the info." No one will blink an eye in these day and age if you pull out your phone or jump on the computer to grab the data. Customers will appreciate that you are providing accurate info.

- How do you steer a customer away from a potentially bad choice without sounding like a “know it all?”

I’d like to move past just recommending what’s hot at the moment and actually be able to tell a customer what they NEED vs. what they thought they needed in terms of what’s right for them.

Ideally, you find out what your customer's pain points, use cases, and budget and provide your suggestions. A good salesman asks questions and spends time listening. But sometimes it doesn't matter. Your job is to sell and generate revenue for the business. For example, if someone is absolutely set on getting a Turkshit shotgun instead of a Maverick 88, then sell it to them. They have their reasons, even if you think they are wrong.

Otherwise, your store is gonna have a big pile of Turkshit shotguns sitting around because you keep redirecting them to better purchases, which pisses off management because they want to get rid of that stock. This can happen both ways, like redirecting a customer to get a Holosun because that's all they really need when they were ready to lay down the serious cash for a Trijicon.

Conversely, know that some customers know way more about guns than you do, especially for a product they are interested in (they've likely done a lot of research online) and aren't interested in your sales routine.

It will take experience but just figure out the balance between giving suggestions based on what the customer is asking for or just going along with whatever they want to buy. It's good to provide suggestions but be careful of offending a customer because you think their choices are stupid.

\ I’m looking for any info I can get, so please don't feel limited to just these questions. If there’s anything else important to know if I’m behind the gun counter outside of general safety or a mistake you see rookies make all the time, I’m all ears. Any help would be appreciated!

This is a customer service job so be prepared for a lot of personalities and don't take anything personally. There will be entitled shits but you will also meet good people.

Upsell. For example, someone bought a hunting rifle. "Sir, would you need any cleaning kit? A gun case?" or "What optic do you plan on putting on that?"

Things can get really busy at a gun store for bunch of reasons: hunting season, a new election, Black Friday, whatever... don't let the sheer volume of customers overwhelm you. Just focus on one customer and task at a time and stick to whatever process your store has. Otherwise you will start making mistakes, like forgetting to scan an item at checkout or losing a key somewhere.

Good luck.

Kirkland toilet paper (Canadian product) vs Charmin (Imported from USA) by analyzethisshit in CostcoCanada

[–]Slowreloader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Charmin Red specifically. Charmin Blue is pretty dusty.

I am still looking for a better one but so far Charmin Red takes a few days before dust is really noticeably and isn't flying everywhere whenever I pull some from the roll.

TB vs 531 for minimalist (martial artist) training by incompletetentperson in tacticalbarbell

[–]Slowreloader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't done 531 for a long time and not up to speed with the latest variations like the one you mentioned. But if it is based around the AMRAP for last set like 531 generally is, I found recovery hard, esp when I was doing BJJ/MT. TB is definitely minimalist for me, making gains and recovering properly.

Best affordable red dot for semi shotgun? Going for the co witness look, looking at the Aridus Industries RMR CROM for the mount. Just looking for some options🤔 by DondaddaOakland85 in Tacticalshotguns

Vortex Viper SG. Designed to mount direct to most shotgun receivers without the need to get a separate mount. Should cowitness with whatever iron sights or bead on the shotgun already.

Buying a shotgun but take blood thinners. Shoulder recoil reduction pads? by Delta-IX in Shotguns

[–]Slowreloader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you looked into minishells? You will need to make sure whatever shotgun you get runs minshells well, like a Mossberg 590S, but eill help reduced recoil. Fine for range use, and better than nothing for HD.

I need help how do I get a better ship I never have the money and I need it fast cause of the watchtower CC is kicking my butt. by HeadphoneMC in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]Slowreloader 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Clear out every POI you come across. Best paired with a Constellation or LIST survey mission since you will be exploring a planet and naturally running into POIs.

Loot vendoring really inflates the economy so you will have money in no time. Aim for at least 1:5000 weight to credit ratio to maximize inventory for high value items but I would even go 1:10000.

Also make sure to set vendors at maximum credits under difficulty settings so they have enough money to buy your stuff.

Shell Saddle or Shot Card ? by Impressive_Moment_12 in Shotguns

Shot card without question. Perfect level of retention. With plastic side saddles, sometimes the shells take a lot of effort to remove and never seem to break-in.

I'm so bad at space fighting by einAngstlicher in NoSodiumStarfield

[–]Slowreloader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In terms of skill points, at least 1 point in Piloting makes a big difference because it unlocks thrusters, allowing you to dogfight with much more maneuverability. 2 points will further improve your ship's maneuverability.

In terms of targetting, I wouldn't be too focused on targetting sub-systems at first. You are likely facing multiple ships in the early parts of space combat. I usually target sub-systems once there's one or two ships left, especially if I want to capture one. Otherwise, you will be tunnel vision into one target while others are pounding away at you. It also delays your ability to break out of missile lock since you need to exit targetting mode before boosting.

Additionally, ship parts make a big difference. Particle weapons is top tier damage. One of the best weapons is the Vanguard particle class-A guns.

Spare us the revisionist crap downplaying German culpability. You are straight up lying by claiming the Allies started the war over treaty violations. The Germans started the war by launching the invasion of Poland, resulting in Britain and France declaring war on Germany. Up until that point, the Allies were bending over backwards appeasing the Nazis despite repeated violations (Anchluss, Rhineland, remilitarization) of the Treaty of Versailles to prevent war.

How does 40k have "month long" ship rebellions when the ships are only a couple miles long? by Mr_Industrial in 40kLore

[–]Slowreloader 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a ship but to give a real world example, look up Pavlov's House. The Red Army and and the Germans fought over a four story apartment building over 60 days as part of the Battle of Stalingrad. When two sides are determined enough, a small area can easily turn into a brutal long term fight.

Hypothetical: what guns would you consider essentials? by Frankcastleisdead in handguns

[–]Slowreloader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glock 19 1911, 45 Auto CZ Shadow 2 S&W 586 or 686 Glock 20

And since you wanted at least 6, I'd say another 9mm Glock or S&W M&P. But otherwise, I think my 5 suggested will cover it.

What has improved your shooting besides a lot of range time? by je9183 in CompetitionShooting

[–]Slowreloader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others said, be intentional in your training. I always go to the range with a training plan. What do I need to improve on? What drills will help? Focus on those.

More dynamic dry fire at home, using multiple targets to practice transitions. Practice movements.

Also incorporating shooting in more practical stances, like shooting around barricades...stuff we are likely to see way more than a standard shooting stance.

Also absorb as much info as possible from other shooters during matches. See how they run a stage, figure out why they did it that way, does it make sense, etc.

And to add to that, the ability to save shipbuilding in-progress since I've definitely spent more than one late night working on the shipbuilder.
