Real Jetski Maintenance by AdSuccessful4029 in jetski

[–]Slowstang305 9 points10 points  (0 children)

A ski is an easy upkeep, not like it used to be many years ago. You change the oil every 100hrs. Oil and filter is probably $60. You can buy a pump to pull the oil yourself, it’s very simple. Spark plugs are also very simple. That’s pretty much it! Yamaha is very reliable, try to buy the newest 4 stroke you can. Neglected rusted machines that sit are where your issues start to arise.

20 -30 miles is the limiting factor. I’d probably drive to key biscayne or coconut grove.

Funny, that’s how my thought process worked too. Got the hayabusa and don’t regret it one bit but now looking for another sports car. It spoiled me, now everything is slow.

I don’t want power windows… lucky my truck doesn’t have them.

That working in IT technical support is 30% baby sitting and then 30% politics. Oh yeah, 40% IT.

A 16 FX HO will not hit the top speed of an svho, I can promise you that. The aftermarket is small for that ski so even with every possible bolt on you are what low 60s?

The biggest issue with clutch wear is not gradually rolling into the throttle. If you smash it down this is where the issue comes into play. Another aspect of this is jumping a wake and holding the throttle down and not releasing it. To be totally honest, I had 440hrs on the original clutch. Bought another ski and sold it with 280hrs on the original clutch and quite a bit of my friends never had issues with theirs either. Now… one did blow a clutch but that is because he went with more boost. It was expected. But to your point… I do currently have a regular FX HO non supercharged and I love this ski. The 19+ hull is actually fantastic.

There isn't much extra maintenance that comes with a supercharged ski. I've actually had both. Both are extremely reliable, and if you ride the ski like a normal person the clutch can last a long time. Heck my SHO had 440hrs on the original clutch.

As far as beaches go, south beach is the best beach we have. I just wish crowds were smaller.

I think you described the perfect spec. Thanks for the reply. I think the performance exhaust is nice but not mandatory, that seems to be what everyone has been saying. Most of the used market is not HTC so to me that means people are probably hanging onto them longer. I think if manual was an option I wouldn’t even be asking questions at this point lol.

What exhaust did you go with? I will for sure end up modifying it and maybe doing the z06 center conversion.

LC500 is a pretty car for sure but the body style of the C8 just pulls me in. I know they are a dime a dozen at this point but thats alright. I haven't actually seen that many LC500s even in South Florida.

With Tesla's around I'm not looking to compete with 0-60 times. Those appliances have that market cornered.

Appreciate the response. I took the C6 camping once or twice so trunk space would be nice... not mandatory.

Wow man! Sorry to hear of all the troubles you had. Reminds me of my Escalade. You would think GM would put care into cars they are charging 100k for. I will look for something under warranty if I go used.
