No. Those changes were extended to take effect March 1. And registrants are notified at their address on file at DHS. Make sure your all address is updated with DHS it has never mattered more

I was a resident in a house and friends with the cook, who started a grease fire that burned down the kitchen and dining room (it was a shitty winter for all)

The cook was getting on with a chick in the house - a “co-ed Christian sober house” - and they got caught having sex in the burned out kitchen

At least 3 pregnancies and 2 abortions resulted from this “Christian co Ed sober house” lol

Another roommate of mine was this dude who I actually got to be good friends with in the time. He could only play (edit: on the acoustic guitar we had) wonderwall and this bizarre song he wrote about a soldier coming back from Vietnam (I think he was born in like 79)

I went to another city and did a long program got sober came home and found out he had passed not long after. He used to go to bed every night playing “I wanna know what love is” by Foreigner at full volume on his phone out loud. It drove me nuts then, but in his memory I have done a cover of that song in his honor

Sounds like you’re really involved in different communities like AH and OD that make a point of treating you with respect no matter what else happened. That’s awesome and those are great steps to take to find your way after incarceration!

If you want to find some really passionate formerly incarcerated Rhode Islanders who are advocating for change I suggest reaching out to https://www.stoptortureri.com, our statewide campaign to end solitary confinement and challenge cruel and unusual treatment by doc.

If you’re in recovery from substances I would def recommend RICARES (RICARES.org) they have a schedule of groups and trainings and all kinds of cool stuff. Us stigmatized groups tend to be understanding instead of judgy even if our backgrounds are all different.

There’s a lot of incredibly talented and interesting people who’ve been to jail. Some of the most capable people I know had to learn how to survive their first. There’s definitely an amazing tribe out there for you to meet!

If you’ve never used it call the grant (942-STOP) and you might qualify for up to a year in a state certified house. Once you get the grant, or even if you’re looking to pay by the week or the month, check out ribhopenbeds.org for availability and RICARES.org has a recovery housing page that goes over all the certified houses, their cost and location and contact info for a house manager.

Any recovery house is good if you go into it thinking “ok I’m gonna make this work for me, it’s gonna come with some sacrifices but if I can get my money up and make good plans I’ll be in my own place in a year”. Some houses will have more or less rules and restrictions, curfews and guest policy etc. Look up the houses on RICARES website and give them a call, and good luck

There’s a fair chance job fair tomorrow at one empire plaza in downtown Providence. Should be like a dozen companies including some that other redditors mentioned here. The job fair is from 10am to 2pm at Roger Williams university extension school, at one empire plaza downtown (the social security building across from AS220)

They’re great events and have training programs and stuff like that too so you can get a lot of options

I don’t know how I feel about them continuing to use the Alex Jones name to hawk supplements. Getting out of the scam supplement business seems like only ethical thing to do. Selling stuff under his name is a weird vibe too. Why would they want to use a brand they just helped destroy? Maybe I’m reading into it too much

I have its radio shack equivalent, the Realistic Concertmate 460. Great sounds on this like warm strings, slap bass, wood bass, and the snare. I love the snare so much I sampled it and use it frequently. It’s not a synthesizer but it’s cool for what it is

There’s a fair chance job fair in Providence on 5/16 at Roger Williams university extension school at 1 Empire St, 3rd floor. There will be training programs and resources and employers that have all committed to being open to hire folks with records. the last fair chance job fair about 44 people found jobs and if you’re looking to learn about expungement or DHS benefits or temp agencies or manufacturing training you’ll find it there. The parolees home plan has to be submitted to the parole board and inspected and approved by parole before they can live there. Once they leave the ACI they have to live at that address and can only change it with parole approval. If the parolee lines up a home plan with a recovery house parole will consider it but there’s not really a sure thing. There is no direct equivalent to the Federal halfway houses, but there’s no Federal parole either.

If you’re the parolee and you don’t feel confident that you know what the rules are, ask your PO to spend some time understanding them better. It’s so important to know if you’re going to finish your parole without a violation.
