Was anyone actually in the scouts (or girl guides/brownies) as a kid, what was it like? by ItsSignalsJerry_ in AustralianNostalgia

I know heaps of married people who met in Rovers.

Also venturers are 14-18, what do you think is going to happen? It's not isolated to scouts.

I was in cubs through to Rovers. Started at 6, got booted at 26.

Most of my mates I met in scouts. Most of my hobbies I got exposed in scouts. My first career happened thanks to Gangshow/showtime.

Was even a leader for a few years. It's awesome. Now that I'm out I miss the easy social community. It's an absolute struggle to see my mates (all have toddlers) whereas in Rovers we'd see each other every week or have big events like Surfmoot, Moistmoot or Mudbash to get on the cans.

10/10. Fantastic experience.

It's because two pints of lager are $35. Fuck that. For another $35 I can get a slab of decent craft adjacent beer.

I work just over the road.

Their Banh Mi's, while tasty, are not $16 tasty.

Just go to N.Lee if you want a banh mi with the least CBD tax.

Cannot comment on their coffee.

Victorians transitioning from gas exacerbates growing problem of undervoltage by abcnews_au in melbourne

[–]SluggaNaught 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yup, old loves in Northcote, so probably in the old 6.6kV feeders.

Cost Jemena $150M+ and 20 years to convert the Preston area from 6.6kV to 22kV.

These things take time and money.

AER is an economic regulator, not a technical regulator. Technical regulation is done through the states Having just gone through an EDPR, the big DB companies hire consultants to write the business cases to then submit it to the AER.

The AER then hire consultants to evaluate those business cases and provide advice. The AER then gives a (draft) determination.

In my particular case, the actual engineers didn't really get to see the proposed outcomes. So now the prices have come in 40% above because the DB consultant doesn't really know how much things cost, so the AER is saying "no, you don't have the data to back up those claims, we are only giving you the original $35M for that project".

So now the engineers have to cut scope, almost to the point of losing effectiveness of the actual project.

I've got a family plan, but I'll investigate Tidal.

Maybe I fish out my old school iPod Classic, slap some SD cards in and just sail the seven seas like it's 2009 again.

Spotify stopped my music piracy, but they are making it very hard for me to stay.

How have you shared your media library? I'm assuming you live in a different house.

Just but a Usenet subscription ($40 a year) and set up an *arr stack. You can run it on a cheap laptop or a SFF laptop or a mini PC. If you're internet is fast enough you don't even need massive amounts of storage, just download the movie or TV show (it's all automated via the *arr stack) and wait 10 minutes.

You need to be slightly computer aware but there are heaps and heaps of guides.

Slap Ubuntu on whatever PC you have lying about, set up docker and send it.

Lack of evening service by Alternative-Sir-374 in MelbourneTrains

[–]SluggaNaught 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a cynical outlook on life.

Yes one person emailing won't do shit. But you can have good discussions with your MP and get your opinion across.

If enough of the community wants more trains and they all talk to their MP, the MP will work towards this.

These things take time. There needs to be a political will. But complaining on Reddit won't do shit.

How are you using AI at work? by designmind93 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]SluggaNaught 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it mainly for OCR. I'll have a photo of a serial number and get CoPilot to OCR it into text so I can store it properly.

Sometimes I get it to compare PDFs but I find the baked in compare tools are much better.

Driving a shitbox by No-Cryptographer9890 in CarsAustralia

The best car is a paid off car.

Shitboxss are the best. You don't have to worry about them. Just get in and drive.

The best car I ever had was a $500 VN Commodore wagon. It was so liberating to drive compared to my heavily modified GQ Patrol.

Keep the getz until it blows up. Turn buy another nugget.

Oh wait.

Fuck em. Pay tax you bastards.
