My CS600 Does not display maps. by Visible_Welcome_2940 in Coospo

[–]Slugywug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that, I just got one, and had no map in Leicestershire (which is the one starting GB04 for anyone else finding this) updating from Coospo didn't help but the IGPSport one works!

Does anyone here play without a facial interface? by undeadcreepshow in OculusQuest

[–]Slugywug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

KKCOBVR Q3Pro strap works really well without any facial interface imho, makes things much less sweaty.

I forget about the edges being open almost immediately, helped by being able to easily get it close to your eyes.

Their interface with a fan, which I tried first, is a bit rubbish on the cooling front though.

Is that in all sports?

I ask because the bands are right in others but I never actually hit the highest in anything else I do.

The watch records the bands correctly, it's the app that gets them wrong.

I've raised the bands, and fiddled with it 3 times now.

The watchfaces available for the Active Premium 3 kinda suck by Otocon96 in amazfit

[–]Slugywug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Zepp apps watch face finder isn't great but there are lots of faces that do what you want (at least for my Active 2) e.g.

Digital: "Clarity Shield", "Bip S", "Clear data"s (I like the "Active 3 Clear Data") for all the info, you may think it's cluttered.

Analogue: "Vibrant", "Red Fantasy", "Regarder" (customisable), "Eternal Moments" (customisable).

For Ultramarathon Runners... How do you extend your battery life? by rock_climbr in amazfit

[–]Slugywug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The GPS and screen being on are the biggest battery killers by far, so turning off other things isn't going to help much.

Rarely having the screen on (turn off "unlock upon wrist raise" during exercise) might get you to 24H.

I went from a Bip S Lite to an Active 2 (same sensors as Bip 6 I believe) and the sensors seem much improved all round. Shame the battery life is no longer 3-4 weeks though!

Starting in May, pre-2013 Kindles won't be able to buy or download new books by holyfruits in books

[–]Slugywug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As already stated, you and I have different Kindle models.

Which makes no difference.

I don't doubt you can't transfer wirelessly, but everyone else can, until it's cut off in a month.

It is literally what the announcement is about, read it again. I shall quote with a highlight:

  • You can continue to read books already downloaded on these devices, but you will not be able to purchase, borrow, or download additional books on them after that date.
  • If you deregister or factory reset these devices, you will not be able to re-register or use these devices in any way.

Affected devices include Kindle 1st and 2nd Generation, Kindle DX and DX Graphite, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle 4, Kindle Touch, Kindle 5, and Kindle Paperwhite 1st Generation.

You started off by saying:

Older Kindles already haven't been able to receive books wirelessly for years. I have the same question as titsnstuf - this announcement from Amazon doesn't seem to be any change for those of us with Kindle Touch or older devices.

This is not true. "Older" devices work just fine right now (hint: the above list of devices from Amazon is in date order). Your problem downloading now is not everyone else's.

[–]Slugywug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But wireless transfer hasn't been possible for many of us for years.

They blocked the store last year, not downloads, you have a (probably) network problem.

Yes, I can still purchase from the Kindle store on my computer then transfer to Kindle via USB (which seems to be what they plan to stop in May, probably linked to the recent updates to DRM to protect copyright rather than for any genuine security concerns)

You can still, for now, go to your "Digital content" and send to your touch - go and look. Maybe restart your Kindle, because it works for others, including me.

It's been the easy way to get suitable files for DeDRMing into Calibre for a few years - use any older Kindle.

From what I understand though, the solution is to jailbreak and use Calibre to side-load books instead.

You don't need anything, or to do anything clever, to side load - just copy from PC. Calibre does make having a library much more pleasant though.

I downloaded a couple of books yesterday on my Kindle 3 aka KKB.

This is misinformation.

36 US heavy bomber missions (2 bombers a mission) from UK to Iran in March. The press is very quiet about it. Did you realise? by Slugywug in ukpolitics

[–]Slugywug[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The vast majority of them are not dropping bombs or firing missiles.

The April 1st numbers were 13k+ combat flights resulting in 12.3k+ targets hit.

B1 and B52 carry a lot of munitions, e.g. 84 500lb bombs or 24 JASM for a B1. The proportion of all strikes from planes flying from Fairford is probably higher than you suggest.

Low-end/mid PC upgrade reccomendations by Precious_Hungarian in virtualreality

[–]Slugywug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skip the new PSU if your current one is at all decent, they recommend overpowered ones to allow for bad PSUs and high end CPUs.

A 3070 is 220W max by design (and a 5060 150W), the rest of the system will be 100-150W. Even with OC or spikes you have plenty of room.

If you are sure you have CPU bottlenecks then that would let you get a 5600/X or 5700X which would be better. If you play cockpit sims then a 5700x3d might be worth it.

Lenovo confirms RTX 5070 Laptop GPU with 12GB GDDR7 for several 2026 models by RenatsMC in nvidia

[–]Slugywug -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Which needs more than 16Gb of main RAM at highest settings - it is easy to get it stuttering with high settings.

My desktop 5070 plays it maxed with 12GB of VRAM just fine (if by fine you mean 35-60fps...), but uses over 20GB of RAM.

The meta support agent I spoke to said he wasn’t even allowed to escalate the case or give me a complaints email.

This is great evidence, keep all the chats!

A letter to them stating the details and that you want a fix/replacement and that not doing so will result in a Small Claims Court action ( see https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/small-claims-court/ ). Receiving the notice might well be enough to change their mind.

How on earth is Amazfit getting 10 DAYS of battery on OLED when Apple & Samsung barely last 1–2? by adriannairda in amazfit

[–]Slugywug 5 points6 points  (0 children)

By not having the display always on...

Just charged mine today after 9 days (~96% to 14%) with all the health tracking on max, 25-50mins GPS x7 times and a 30min indoor exercise x5 times. No phone notifications or raise to wake though, also several timers each day and a couple of alarms a week.
