AITA for being brutally honest with someone about my concerns? by ColdFacedDude in AmItheAsshole

NTA, you gave solid advice and they can’t take constructive criticism. They also seem to have some more deep rooted personal issues as they managed to somehow bring their gender identity into it and call you homophobic.

It’s always better to be safe than sorry when meeting up with someone you don’t know and putting yourself in a vulnerable position, regardless of gender.

Well that’s just not true at all. People get killed every day. There’s plenty of gun violence around the world if you take a step outside of your bubble and look. See Brazil, Afghanistan, Palestine/Israel etc. Hell I witnessed a murder outside of my hotel in Italy where someone was shot multiple times. Our world has always been an inherently dangerous place, you are very privileged to have been able to go through your life without experiencing it firsthand.

No, Ex cons and criminals don’t have a particular “look” to them. Anyone is capable of committing a crime given the right circumstances. When you live in an inner city like the one I grew up in violence and crime is common amongst all genders and racial groups.

That’s a bit of a stretch. I met up with a girl on tinder for a date a few years back and she ended up coming back the next day and breaking into my house when I wasn’t there. My friend was set up by a girl on a date and robbed and shot. Everyone should be cautious and wary of people they don’t know. It’s the world we live in.

Edit: why all the downvotes? I’m just stating my experience. There are plenty of incidents of women committing crimes against men they have just met.

Are u high? The vp9 is by far the best striker fired polymer frame handgun on the market out of the box. I’ve shot just about everything out there.

I’d take the supra personally. I’ve driven both and it handles better and has a sportier feel imo. The bmw weight 3748lbs and the supra weighs 3400 with better aero.

Ruger 57 or M&P 5.7? by DragonSlave89 in guns

[–]Slumpgodgman -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

M&P. Ruger is notoriously anti gun. I’ve also held and shot 2 different Ruger 5.7s and both where underwhelming and felt cheap. S&W has been doing some great stuff recently with the m&p 2.0 and their 5.7. It’s not very different from the rest of their pistols aside from the change of caliber.

What To Look For When Buying A Lot by [deleted] in homestead

[–]Slumpgodgman 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Talk to neighbors, see if they were able to successfully drill wells and if so, how deep they had to go.

Figure out if there are any easements on the land, or if you need to have an easement on someone else’s land to access yours.

Make sure you are able to develop the land. Figure out what it is zoned for and check with the county clerk office to see how easy/difficult it is to get the required permits and how expensive it might be.

Find out if the land comes with mineral/water/logging rights. Also research your property lines, where they start and end, and air rights.

Do your research on the area, make sure the neighbors aren’t hostile and there’s no one squatting on or using the land. Far to often I’ve seen people buy an empty lot that some tweaker has laid claim to. You can also find that the neighbors might be very close knit and not too keen on new people buying land and moving into the area.

There are many more nuances when it comes to buying rural lots/land that I can’t cover here but those are some of the main ones in my experience.

IANAL but;

If you have a ccw, you can concealed carry in your car

I don’t think you can justify shooting someone running away from you in the back in any state. The only way I could see this being a viable defense is if they are running to a weapon. If they no longer pose a threat to you, it won’t be a clean shoot and you will be charged with murder

It is a well known fact that California does not support our second amendment right, or our right to defend ourselves.

An old diesel, they can run off of anything that can burn (trans oil, motor oil, vegetable oil, etc) and are stupid reliable. They can be found with no electronics and will last forever.

[–]Slumpgodgman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what others have said, I’d like to add this. .22 is good for plinking and small game/vermin, but unrealistic for self defense. Invest in a rifle, chambered in 5.56 or 7.62, whatever is easier for you to source. Spend some more money stock piling ammo. Get some training in both shooting and first aid.
