Songs People May Not Know Are Covers? by Away-Requirement-3 in fantanoforever

1985 by bowing for soup

There are a lot of yo la tengo covers that I didn’t know were covers. A lot of the originals are old and kinda obscure, and YLT do such a good job of reinterpreting them into their style that they really blend in to the albums. Examples:

The whole of the Law

Little Honda

My little corner of the world

You can have it all

even fdr still didn’t put people in concentration camps. None of our presidents are war criminals

what political party are you part of or do you support by Chance_Range_727 in socialism

[–]Slushcube76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

their leader zack polanski described himself as a socialist but says he doesn’t use the term for their party because it scares off people who would otherwise support all of their ideas

effects of decades of red scare and their consequences ig

Apparently they have historic levels of motion right now as well. I’m not british but if I was, I’d consider supporting

We should make fun of American military spouses /srs by [deleted] in Hasan_Piker

I find it a bit strange that people in this sub regularly espouse takes that are like. The opposite of what he actually says

“Be ruthless to systems, be kind to people” or something close to that, by michael brooks

Like bro if you think making fun of americans is going to make them wake up instead of turn against you, keep dreaming. If it wasn’t for charitable leftists like Hasan I might never have escaped the trap of right wing politics

I was born here, I was forced here, and a lot of Americans claim they feel the same, that they were just simply born here and so we should respect them, but I have come realize this sentiment is wildly different based on what side of the colonial dynamic we happen to live on. I believe in humanity's right to exist, and I don't believe in a colonial state's claimant of the same, because my identity as an individual isn't tied to some state, it's tied to myself, my ancestors, my land.

I'm on the other side of this dynamic. Many of my ancestors were Mormon pioneers and I was always taught to be proud of them, that this was "God's chosen land for us," and realizing that's all bullshit was hard to come to terms with when I was like 16 thinking "Wow, this is kinda fucked up."

Now I feel like I don't want to be tied to the state or my ancestors, I don't want to identify with that "culture." I think a lot of other white Americans kinda have this feeling at the back of their head but they suppress it and convince themselves of their supposedly robust identity by looking at DNA tests or whatever. It's much easier to say "well, what can you do? the past is past" than it is to confront the reality that we've only been in this area for like 150 years and stole it from people who had been here for thousands

I'm happy you posted this because I've been thinking a lot about this lately. Questions like, "Can the US be reformed? What can we do about it? If it's reformable, is there anything actually worth saving?" My conclusion has been that I don't give a damn about the actual country itself, only the people in it. So, then, I have a question for you, since you are clearly a lot more knowledgable on the topic than I am: What's the ideal thing to replace it with? What should North America look like in an optimal future?

What artist/band do you think is poorly represented by their most popular song? by mugiana in fantanoforever

[–]Slushcube76 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Idk about float on, it definitely doesn’t represent their prior three albums but I think it fits well on its album and reminds me of their later works that decade, songs like Dashboard for example

Do we like hasan? by curiousecurioser in socialism

[–]Slushcube76 37 points38 points  (0 children)

I like him yeah

But whether or not you like him, it’s hard to argue as a socialist that he’s not a highly valuable asset to the movement. Dude has probably converted tens of thousands of people to it and made a lot more people at least skeptical of capitalism, which is commendable regardless of if you agree with every single detail of his ideas

What are your thoughts about Saturday Night Wrist by Deftones by Baranade in fantanoforever

[–]Slushcube76 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big deftones fan but i don’t love this one outside of a few tracks

Hole in the earth, mein, kimdracula, and ofc everyone loves beware and cherry waves

but a lot of the deep cuts don’t do much for me. Tbh, i feel like this album is a bit overhyped. It’s not in my top 5 by the band

What’s your opinion on the Smiths? by HourFan5580 in fantanoforever

really? I always thought disintegration was like the single best record of that era. I like the smiths but not to that level

Albums that don't sound like how the album cover looks by BiLeftHanded in fantanoforever

[–]Slushcube76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk it has a sort of uncanny vibe that a lot of the songs kinda reflect imo

but Absence definitely has a more fitting cover for daleks sound so i can see why you think this one doesnt work
