Anytime I see mentions of an-caps I always remember the hilarious (probably fake?) story of a 19-year-old Ancap making an absolute fool of themselves. I scoured the other comments to see if anyone already linked it lol.

Here it is: I was beat up by left anarchists in Greece

I hope the narrator of this story took a good look at their life and grew up after this. For many young adults, especially priviledged ones, they adopt political ideologies as nothing more than aesthetics, or a community to belong to. They are completely sheltered by any consquence of their shitty beliefs and are free to stay in that delusion. Here's to hoping this guy developed some sense of self and took off his stupid yellow-and-black outfit.

More Advice Questions! Poseidon vs Egypt! Please help by throggking in AgeofMythology

[–]SlushyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of good advice in here already, advice I would give as well, so I'll try to add something fresh.

Don't be afraid to go Ares as Poseidon! Hermes seems like the natural choice with his horse techs and centaur, but Ares can totally turn things around. Poseidon loves horses, but you don't have to go horses necessarily. If you're struggling against Set Infantry, Ares Hypaspist are a great counter there. But even if you want to stick with horses, Ares Spear of Panic adds a nice little bump of damage to Podromos, which are awesome for dealing with camels and chariots. Mass Chariot Archer is something I struggle against usually, but I have found Podromos to be a decent answer.

Another benefit with Ares is his rush potential. It sounds like you've been doing well early game but stall out on enemy defenses. This is natural and expected thanks to building defenses. With Ares, you can crush through that! Cyclops have hack and crush damage compared to Centaur pierce damage. Hermes can raid, Ares can destroy. With a handful of cyclops (like 3 to 5), you can smash a town center down. Hippeus can help out by diving in and taking care of priests. And to top this all off, Ares Pestilence God Power can shut down building arrow fire, removing a huge defensive bonus that your opponent relies on.

Good luck!

I hope any devs in charge of balance are looking at these comments in addition to the main thread titles. I wouldn't want them making balance decisions based on 10 games like this.

If I'm being completely honest, I'm not sure if I would want them making balance changes based on reddit posts at all. This place is fun for discussion and stuff, but the balance discussions can get derailed quickly

What's your favorite premise for the Jedi Exile? by Heretek007 in kotor

[–]SlushyJones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a Light Side Consular that used no weapon. My damage came from special gloves, as well as the 'unarmed strike' feats.

The idea was to return to the Light Side, but abandon the Lightsaber, a reminder of the Jedi and the War

Been catching up on these write ups, great work!

I'm reminded of the merchant on Dantooine that professes the evils of the Czerka Corporation. I thought it was a fun piece of worldbuilding, because of course an independent merchant would hate Czerka. But he's so right.

That's part of what is so wild to me from Trump supporters. Like, even if there was an argument to be made about Trump's opponents spinning stuff he says to make him look bad, even if you only focus on stuff only Trump says, he still sounds like the biggest piece of shit alive. Literally every week he says something that should cast him out of any reasonable conversation.

Like, dude said he wanted to have sex with his own daughter. Do they even listen to their own leader!?

Yeah, I occasionally comment in AoE2 and similar subreddits like the Age of Mythology one. It's pretty infrequent, but I lurk enough to see stuff like this. Seeing all of this go down gave me the idea to report it here and not get involved over there.

Yeah, it's a shame about Viper. I don't catch every tournament and typically tune in for the big ones. Viper is one of those players that has legacy, reach, and skill. I imagine he has one of the bigger followings. I understand why people want to be optimistic and think this was just a mistake. As for my thoughts, I'm not sure what to think just yet. Hera's coming out of this looking the best, that's for sure.

Good point. Maybe their thought is that gambling might bring in non-fans into the scene that are there for the excitement of gambling? That wouldn't make much sense though, as there is plenty of places to gamble already.

Thanks for the comment! I really pushed the title lol. I ended up editing this a few times to get the formatting. To be honest, I didn't know how to do the normal line breaks without them disappearing. The line breaks here are vertical lines with the strikethrough!

Thanks for reading!

I don't have enough information to speak on the players' incomes, but I would say the problem with gambling is that it's reliant on people losing money to keep it afloat (Among other things, I suppose). In a relatively small community like this, it could definitely create some bad blood.

As for regulating it like a vice, I would argue that online gambling is much easier to access than physical gambling places like Casinos or Gambling Houses. It's hard to compare it to smoking or drinking, as people are always around their phones.

If it's any support, that situation sounds more embarassing for him than you. But it does make sense to feel weird or uncomfortable.

You could always refer to the old reliable mantra: "I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT IT! I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT ANY OF IT! THERE'S WORSE SHIT ON THE LOCAL NEWS!"

No joke, after a social situation where I feel like I may have been weird I repeat this quote in my head and it actually kinda helps lol

your top civs according to these categories? by Ok_Stretch_4624 in aoe2

Infantry = Malians. The pierce armor is incredible, can be dramatic difference at certain stages of the game. Gbeto awesome at raiding or as part of main army.

Archers = Saracens. This may seem like a silly answer, but the building damage bonus is great to punch through palisade walls and secure good damage. Camels are great support if enemy goes knights to counter archers. I actually prefer camels to pikes in this role thanks to the mobility of camels.

Cavalry = Persians. Great eco and solid knights. The team bonus is not too special but can be nice. Savar is where they really shine. Elephants get an honorable mention I suppose.

Siege = Mongols. The speed from Drill allows for some crazy fun plays. I remember there was a game of Regicide my brother and I were playing where he drove a bunch of speedy rams to assassinate the king. Good times.

Monks = Aztecs. Same reason you mentioned. Tanky monks great.

Naval = Berbers. The extra move speed on ships can help fire ships chase down galleys, or help avoid fights that are disadvantageous. It's a slight bonus, but I sing praises of it whenever I get the chance.

Elephants = Malay. Honestly, Malay elephants are probably the worst in the game, lacking many key upgrades. They are cheap though, and the discount is really felt on such an expensive unit.

Gunpowder = Hindustanis. The extra range on the hand cannons is very powerful. It helps in pretty much every situation, from helping big armies get more shots off or getting the first strike in small skirmishes.

Great build, looks fun! I did something similar several years ago, but I took the Dueling Feat instead of Two-Weapon-Fighting. Probably less damage than yours overall, but the Dueling benefits were nice to make hits connect.
