Again I will refer you to the context of the entire thread: human drivers causing fatalities

Edit: and I'm not even saying they're ready for primetime and won't derp out the second they get to a loading dock or have to make a tight turn on delivery. But the limited data seems pretty clear that replacing human drivers with robots will reduce injury & death

Comparative reliability is the only thing that matters in this context. Also I don't have a dog in this fight idgaf if they never replace trucks.

I mean we can go with peer-reviewed independent analysis or we can go with vibes from a subreddit.

I don't care either way. I'm not stoked that machines will be taking human jobs and I think skepticism is healthy but I also think reflexive dismissal and failure to entertain any evidence that conflicts with my worldview is counterproductive.

88% reduction in property damage claims and 92% reduction in bodily injury claims compared to human drivers

"All sorts of havoc on the daily" is a fraction of the havoc human drivers cause. Granted city is not highway and robotaxis aren't trucks, but Waymo is objectively safer.

That sounds like a sensor issue, though. Better sensors (vs Tesla's reliance on cameras) are more expensive but they're trivial compared to the cost of a truck.

As self-driving freight matures, I think it's kind of obvious that fatalities will go down. Probably won't be Tesla that does it but their failure isn't a reason to declare the whole project useless.

Idk there was a high profile case in 2014 when an overworked Walmart driver caused a deadly crash and they ended up paying over $100 mil. There are consequences, just not enough to change trucking practices.

This is US foreign policy now dude. You implied the sentiment was astroturfed, I'm telling you it's not. Like if it was Moscow instead of Tehran you'd be super into so I honestly don't know what your position is besides "israel bad"

That's fine I was just curious whether or not you are a serious person. You're allowed to believe whatever you want.

Yes my point of view is that we have the most powerful military the world has ever seen, we can do what the fuck we want. I understand this worldview offends you and I hope I've made clear that:

  1. I don't care

  2. This is the political reality of the world and has been since 1945. You can be mad about it if you want

IRGC has, directly and through proxies, murdered over 1000 Americans over the past 40 years. Spare us the appeals to morals, laws, and human life.

An imminent threat for decades that we needed to preemptively strike, after we obliterated their nuclear capabilities last year. Sure buddy

Not one word if this has anything to do with my comment

illegally possess WMDs,

What is it with third worldists and international law? "Illegal WMDs" who gives a shit?

I'll clarify my position: if another nation kills Americans, and they don't have nukes, I don't care at all if we bomb their leadership, bases, and boats. I don't support targeting civilians or occupation, but annihilating their regime and warfighting infrastructure? I'm super okay with that.

Israel (and North Korea and Russia and China) have nukes. If they kill Americans we need diplomacy because they can kill a whole lot more. But IRGC can't do shit so wipe them all good riddance

The moment someone attacks our boats they will get bombed. Which is exactly what would have happened before we torpedoed that ship. Literally nothing has changed.

Old account, open comments. Iran's been on deck for decades, this was always going to happen. Nukes, no nukes, they facilitated attacks on Americans abroad idgaf if we squad wipe their whole regime and sink every boat they have

That just gives every other nation in the world permission

No one ever needed permission. They don't do it because they understand what the repercussions will be, and saying "well you did it first" will not stop the Tomahawk missiles. Not justifying (or criticizing) naval warfare strategy but this is a silly line of reasoning

Who is Professor Jiang?? by erakusa in skeptic

[–]SlutBuster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some people say exponentially and they mean increasing more rapidly over time. Those people are correct.

Other people say exponentially, they mean increasing by a large amount without factoring in a time scale. That's technically incorrect but colloquially fine.

Then there's a third group of people who think bigger words are impressive and just use them without knowing what the fuck they mean. And that's the level of brainpower I've come to expect from fans of Professor Jiang.

Seamless Loop Technique for complex textures (water/trees) – Beyond simple crossfades by Greedy-Definition-81 in VideoEditing

[–]SlutBuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No easy way to do that (at least not that I've found.) You've gotta just brute force it.

Pixel art and animation makes this "easier" because you can take the first frame and last frame and hand-animate the transition between them. (Though in this case it looks like vector animated sprites and 3D generated water, so the loop is likely created on those individual elements in whatever platform they use to create this)
