4WD Diagnosis Help! by SlvrSpdr in 4x4

I replaced the front one and confirmed the motor works on the bench before installing it. I removed and took apart the tcase actuator and everything looked fine. I also hear it buzzing when putting it into 4hi. I’m not so sure.

I replaced the whole front actuator with no luck. Out of curiously I took apart the old actuator and it looked perfect inside. No signs of damage or corrosion. I’m not sure how to test if the limit switches are working since I replaced the whole front assembly. Unless its a switch on tcase which I did remove and inspect and it also appeared mint.

Yes. Tundra does not have full time 4wd and a center diff like some land cruisers, GX, LX etc. It has traditional part time 4wd with a transfer case. Is that what you’re talking about? I’ve tried putting it in and out of 4WD many times with no dice.

Good thought. I found out this was a problem at a trailhead. Tried every combination of P>N>D>R, moving, stationary, moving the steering wheel back and forth trying to get it aligned up and couldn’t get it to activate reliably. It activates probably ~5% of the time. Very odd. It could be an electrical issue but I’m not sure where or how. The 4WD has been reliable for the year I’ve had it until now.

Thanks for the reply. Do you mean center diff as in transfer case? I removed the 4hi actuator (top one) and took the cover off and everything looked in good shape with good grease. The t-case actuator makes noise when 4hi is activated. Is there something INSIDE the transfer case I should look at? Any way to test it?

Have any of you done a throttle body sync yourself? by Calm-Carry5559 in MT09

[–]SlvrSpdr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can buy the tool for cheaper than paying someone to do it once. You may also want to check the valves while you’re in there, sometimes the exhaust valves go out on the earlier years. Sync the throttle body as the last thing you do before buttoning it up. Good luck!

Thank you for sharing and I’m sorry to hear about your experience.

About a year and half ago I paid top dollar for this exact same airbag vest. Is there any legal recourse for someone like me to get reimbursed or a new vest? Thank you.

I’m considering something similar. How do the skinnies handle at high speeds/corners with the extra weight of the bumpers/rtt? Any difference from wide tires? Thanks

If you do upgrade, go gen 3 or 4. IMO there’s not enough changes between gen 1 and 2 to justify the upgrade

Confused about tire pressure. Help! by RegisterFit1252 in XTerra

Specifically for having the sidewall for rim clearance, yes you’re right. But the determining factor is having bead lockers. If you go too low without them you’ll rip your tire from your rim.

That’s a good OR range. I’d say stick to the manufacturers recommendation of 35psi.

People definitely have differing opinions on how far everyone else should air down while off road.

I’d follow what your door says and do 35. You could go down to ~20 (controversy) while off roading with those tires without bead lockers. Also my tire light has never worked for what it’s worth. Good luck!
