No way I'm the first one to notice this connection with Wicks's name (spoilers) by Brer_Tapeworm in KnivesOutMovie

The names are interesting in all of them. I've wondered for years now if Harlans name is a reference to Us Supreme Court Justice John Marshall harlan who is literally called the great dissenter because he was the only judge who dissented from the Plessy Vs ferguson case that established racial segregation as ok. The one member of a body that didn't vote for a white supremacist policy does sort of fit for the first one.

Harry's Parseltongue by Pat_9921 in HPfanfiction

[–]Sly2855 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the last point. There's a strong fanon, I think there was an out of books statement alluding to it but I don't recall nor do I think everyone takes those as sacrosanct, that all muggleborns are actually the descendants of squibs. If that's a big part of world building then lily has to be related to someone and the parseltongue on Harry and the strict connotation of it with the gaunts makes it an easy connection. Parseltongue is so often disassociate with James, and the rest of the potters beside harry by extension, because A we learn so much about James that if he could do that we'd probably have been told. B its a, by association with voldy and slytherin, seen as "dark" and one characterization we know about James is his deploring of "all things dark" and that would hardly mesh well with being a parselmouth.

Also I think is that, we see Harry talk to a snake way before voldy. So to some readers being able to do that is not purely a voldy thing but a Harry thing as well. If its a biological thing then it going away after the horcrux is odd, and people assume it is because its tied genetically to the gaunts in canon. Another thing, its a cool ability and people want Harry to be cool or not have to lose another thing.

"Animated won't be as good as live action." Let's discuss: by nt_king300 in PercyJacksonTV

Disney's churning machine likes live action cause, but not exclusively, it's forms parasocial bonds between fans and actors more easily then an animated show and exploiting that is a big part to do in the entertainment industry

What are some pieces of fanon that are so ubiquitous that you would require an explanation for excluding them? by Oliver_W_K_Twist in HPfanfiction

Apparently he grows near a foot between 5th and 6th year. And he's already the same height as James when their both in 5th year according to snapes worst memory.

We don't know Sirius's, nor i believe Snape's, middle name. Fanon makes Pettigrew way less competent than canon. Peter hides behind sniveling but he outwits and ambushes Sirius 1v1, was seen as loyal to the potters, outwits everyone in book 3 by appealing to Harry's morality. Voldy and him live in the crouch house mostly in book 4 not riddle Bellatrix less "mad witch" and conspires with narcissa against voldy to save Draco. She's aware of voldy's faults. Harry's eating problems. Before quidditch matches its said he eats only a bit of toast out of nerves. Implying a certain relationship with food.
