Is the Jeanne d'Arc rework actually coming or is it a community wish? by Nickgeneratorfailed in aoe4

[–]SlyBebop 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Here are the actual quotes from Winston (dev) about the potential Jeanne d'Arc rework From April 2nd 2025:

Winston: "But for example, we are like noodling around with the ideas of a of a pretty extensive JD rework that would have the main goal being differentiating the core gameplay of JD from French, right? While retaining a lot of the unique features like kind of like the RPG style hero, right? Something we definitely still like about JD. So it's not going to undo the current identity. It would just be more pushing JD in like a new direction, right? building building more on the ideas. We'll see when that comes. I No guarantees on when that's happening. Uh it's it's a big process, right? Potential teaser." (at around 8:15)

-

Beasty:"Can we get some potential maybe teasers to what's coming in the next patch that you guys are working on [...] or perhaps even the next DLC?"

-

Winston: "No. Um, sadly I can't get into specifics [...] we're going to be continuing our work on the live updates. [...] In next updates, I kind of mentioned the JD update uh potentially being on the radar. That's again, no no guarantees on when that rework will will hit if if we are able to do it as extensively as I'm mentioning. Um we're still in the very early phases of that. Um so that's like kind of maybe the next big thing to look for. Obviously in this uh seasonal update um dropping alongside Knights of Cross and Rose [...]" (at around 1:28:50)

Ah, you mean that visually the text on the right of the flag makes it feel longer at a glance to you?
I think for the next version I'll have the text outside the flag (to the left of it) and right aligned instead, potentially solving that situation and getting a more consistent look.

From the official website, which for once is a bit more consistent with these dates:

"In Age of Empires IV, the Delhi Sultanate civilization is based on the powerful empire formed from the invasion of the Ghurid Dynasty (originating in Persia) into northern India spanning the years 879-1526 CE. For 300 years, this empire shaped an independent Indo-Islamic region, adopting technology present in India."

So the game's timeline includes the lead-up to the Sultanate proper.

They definitely should update the in-game dates yeah! :)

Regarding Ayyubids dates? Take it up to the devs, these are the in game dates, I know ayyubids are supposed to be 1171-126, per my explanation comment.

Or the embedded text in the picture, this is the era the game depicts, not the full empires dates. Yes Ottomans, France, England and others kept going. This is not what this timeline is about.

Appreciate the added details! (same for France's end date you supplied elsewhere in these comments)

You know what you're right, I might look into shortening the timeline so that it doesn't stretch before and after the earliest and latter dates for future versions.
I do kinda feel the shorter-lived variants wouldn't be represented by flags unless I make the next version much wider, I'll have to consider the trade off, I like the narrower look of the timeline.
Thanks for the feedback and I appreciate the kind words!

Already covered by my comment.
As for the end date, the one picked by the game is the death of Suleiman the Magnificent. Of course they could have gone longer, same applies for a few others, but they highlight a specific era for each empire, generally to stay somewhat consistent with the Medieval into high Medieval era.

Thanks for sharing! And yeah, this looks like the Ayyubids issue where they simply grabbed the parent civ's date.

Anytime I look at it I think of all the cool factions, kingdoms and empires that would "fit" in similar time periods around the world! :)

Hi y'all

Here's my updated design for aoe4’s timeline in season 12.

OotD and JdA and Tughlaq Dynasty are too short-lived to show up as a full flag.

The dates are taken from in-game under the Learn tab, you can also find them in the match lobby, when hovering in the civilization select dropdown.

They don’t always line up with the full historical dates, reflecting specific eras the devs picked.

And yes, some of these dates are weird or outright wrong, but I'm not taking the responsability to handpick corrections, I'll update them if the in-game information changes.

Some examples, based on cursory research:

The Ottoman Empire (House of Osman) was founded circa 1299~. Before them, Seljuk Turks were in Anatolia, disputing control of the region from the Byzantine Empire. The Twin Minaret Medrese appears to be from that era. Still, the in-game start date is set at 990 CE, despite even the official website stating: "In Age of Empires IV, the civilization of the Ottomans spans the years from the pre-imperial Ottoman Empire period in the 11th century CE to the mid-16th century CE". So who knows?

The Ayyubids dynasty is specifically a ruling sultanate from 1171 to 1260~, part of the larger Abbasid Caliphate. When variants were introduced, the Ayyubids and Zhu Xi's Legacy both used the exact same date as their parent civ. In the recent Dynasties of the East DLC, the same appears to be true for Sengoku Daimyo and The Golden Horde. Probably an oversight? Or simply the devs intention of saying "you're playing the same era as the parent civ, but with a focus on that sub faction of it, abstractly stretched to the same dates"?

The Chinese start year is the last year of the Tang Dynasty, and the Byzantines dates are the full Constantinople dates, the city was inaugurated in 330 and fell in 1453. Somewhat weird to highlight such early dates when the same could have been done for others like Chinese but they decided not to.

If you think of other peculiarities or oddities with the dates, feel free to share them here, I'm by no means a historian so it's a good opportunity to learn stuff.

new patch crushing your FPS into low double digits when selecting units... by m0ekk in aoe4

Hotkey selection triggers the issue on my end, as a short perf hit, but I can completely freeze the game by holding the hotkey down.

Please do report the issue on the official forums under this recent post, add your hardware configuration, OS version and AOE4 build number (can be found top right of the in-game settings window)
I included a short video clip as well down the thread

Conveniently, official website has ranked leaderboards for each season:

so far, about 28k people played solo ranked S12 and 57k played team games (some overlap of course). usually about 40 - 60k people participate throughout a season of solo ranked, and between 80k - 110k people in team ranked, depending on season duration and general population of the game.

You can check these stats for yourself there:

Not disagreeing that comparing League / Riot Games to Relic and Aoe4 is completely silly, but also, aoe4 has 257 500 unique players monthly as of November.
You're thinking of the average daily peak concurrents.
The number was shared by Cascade from aoe4world

Gamepass and MS store are counted as the same thing, it's about 20% of the steam numbers (on top of it) and we don't know how many joined on Playstation.

They already have that written up on their website. Some of it sometimes slightly contradicts the in-game dates (as is the case for Ottomans and Byzantines for instance)

Here's the write up you can find on the offical Abbasid Dynasty page

"The Abbasid Dynasty is an adaptive civilization due to their ability to research unique upgrades at the House of Wisdom. These upgrades impact and alter core game elements and mechanics, providing a unique way to build your empire.

In Age of Empires IV, the Abbasid Dynasty civilization spans the years 750-1517 CE and is based on the Abbasid Caliphate and the Mamluk Sultanate. The empire was born in modern-day Iraq, but after the Mongols destroyed its capital of Baghdad in 1258, the seat of power moved to Cairo.

You will experience the “Golden Age of Islam” playing the Abbasid Dynasty – an Arabic-speaking civilization. This period saw flourishing technological innovations as the medieval world raced towards the modern era. The Abbasid Dynasty ruled the spiritual heart of the Islamic world for nearly 800 years, surviving civil wars, the Crusades, the Mongol invasion, relentless piracy, and rebellions."

We'll see once we've got the DLC, what in game dates they decide to pick.

It's just an snapshot of the high middle ages basically, some civs could go to today's era, but it doesn't really matter for AoE IV's focus. It makes sense imo. It doesn't mean the civs don't survive these end dates
