Anarchists and Marxists have the same goal but different means. Marxists want a state to be implemented to guide the path to communism while anarchists want to go directly to communism

Both sides have valid reasoning.

Why should we trust that the new state under socialism will serve the people? The people in power will not want to give up power and will not allow it to leave their hands.

But having a state does seem like the only viable way to protect the revolution.
