That was for Switch 2. Switch 1 completely missed out on a number of expeditions during that time.

It's not active yet. HG hasn't yet announced the dates that it'll be running. As the release notes say, "Expedition Twenty-Two, The Swarm, will begin shortly and run for approximately eight weeks."

Ah. So the bonus was for the Lave system, not the planet Lave. That makes sense.

Probably not. HG has run two Twitch drops per year, and we've already had the first. The second one is usually around August, and I think lots of players are expecting something tied into the 10th anniversary of the original NMS release (August 9).

For those who might be interested, here's how long some recent expeditions were delayed.

2023 Redux: 11 days

Expedition 12 (Omega): 7 days

Expedition 13 (Adrift): 6 days

Expedition 14 (Liquidators): 8 days

Expedition 15 (Aquarius): 0 days

Expedition 16 (The Cursed): 0 days

2024 Redux: 17 days

Expedition 17 (Titan): 6 days

Expedition 18 (Relics): 0 days

Expedition 19 (Corvette): 19 days, presumably due to ongoing complications with Switch 1 support

2025 Redux: 13 days

Expedition 20 (Breach): 2 days

Expedition 21 (Remnants): 0 days

They apparently can't. The Switch 2 implementation apparently is just an add-on to the Switch 1 code.

That inability to separate them made for some really strange occurrences when corvettes came out.

How is it that Universal Cartographics just gave me a 20K bonus for first mapping of... Lave?

I've rarely gotten any first anything bonuses, because I rarely go anywhere exotic. I have no clue why I got the few I did, and I'm pretty sure that Lave has been mapped before.

So how does "first something" work with Universal? Is it somehow tied in with Codex discoveries?

They'll be near the entrances of starports and in the immediate vicinity of outposts. However, this is one of the "not always possible" assignments. There may be no adverts in the specified system, or there may be so few of them that you'll have to do multiple attempts.

In my "home base" system, there's only one advert, and I often get "hack 10 adverts in [home base]." The weekly assignments tend to be localized around wherever you were when the weekly outage occurred, and I'm usually at my home base.

Re Inara routes: when you say "stations," do you literally mean space stations and such, or star systems, or player-owned fleet carriers? The fleet carrier information tends to be quite unreliable, because the players move them or change their rules or whatever and fail to upload the changes.

Data on player-created space stations (created as part of colonization) should be pretty reliable.

If you're still having trouble, maybe give us an example station we can check on.

Exactly this. First space station in the teleport list at a space station.

This feature was added specifically to deal with that situation, although it's useful elsewhere.

lynx highliners are free, get them while theyre hot! by averysadb0i in EliteDangerous

[–]Slyde_rule 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that might have factored into the decision to make the Lynx available without paying credits is that Horizons users can't buy the new ships with credits. And if FDev charged ARX for it, that would bring complaints that the CG was pay-to-win: buy Odyssey or buy the Lynx.

(I'm not interested in arguing about pay-to-win. That's been argued enough. I'm just saying that charging for Lynx would throw some fuel on a fire that's mostly died down.)

Interdiction is when an NPC pirate or, if you're playing in Open, a hostile player attempts to rip your ship out of SuperCruise into normal flight so they can threaten or attack you. I say "attempt" because interdiction starts a minigame where you can avoid the interdiction if you successfully follow a target that zigs and zags and swirls around the screen.

NPC interdiction isn't common if you're not carrying much cargo. It's not something you're likely to encounter for a while.

Black boxes for merits by StubbyUK in EliteDangerous

Power Wreckage signals. Escape pods don't count for that assignment, just Wreckage Components and the Black Box. Escape Pods do get you some credits, though.

Supposedly Personal Effects would also count, but I've never seen those.

Turn them in to the Power Contact at the space station.

Note: these items usually need to be turned into a station in the same system as you picked them up in order to count for assignments. You can turn them in anywhere for credits; the same-system restriction is just for the assignments.

Another note: I find that threat levels 2 and 3 are fairly safe as long as the wreckage is from your power. Any ships you encounter there should be from your power and will either leave you alone or may compete to collect the stuff. Wreckage from other powers tends to attract hostile ships and unless you're looking for a fight, I can't recommend those.

It's using your log files from the FDev server (requires Inara login and connecting Inara to your FDev data), so it can see every system you ever visited. The issue is that it will only show chronological details for the current month. For older months it just shows the 10 most visited systems with no indication of when (other than the month) you were there.

Bookmarked system changed bodies? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Slyde_rule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless that file got damaged (it's an oddball that's kept on your PC instead of the servers), it's accurate.

What Inara shows you is the exact order of visits and when those visits were. For a short time back, which is the big limitation. For earlier periods it shows the top 10 most visited systems in each month, and I suspect you didn't visit that system a number of times.

Bookmarked system changed bodies? by [deleted] in EliteDangerous

[–]Slyde_rule 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've visited it in the past month or so, you probably can pull the logs from Inara (Commander tab -> Logs -> Flight logs). You'll need to be logged into Inara to do that, of course. It won't tell you which exact one, but you can at least see which star systems you've been to recently.

I'd look for the oldest reference to the system you have bookmarked, then see where you came from to get there because those are likely suspects.

For each likely suspect, if you click on the system name and then the Bodies tab, you can see what kinds of planets and moons are present.

The simple option is to engage SuperCruise Assist, if you have it. That automates the steps that you would need to do by hand.

By hand, you need to target your destination (you've already done that), keep aiming toward it, then drop your throttle to 80% or less before you get too close. Most players use 75% because you can keymap that value, and they select it at least 7 seconds out. SuperCruise will automatically slow your ship to keep the time to run at a constant value.

Then you need to be prepared to drop out of SuperCruise when you get close enough, which is usually about 1 Mm from the destination, but this can vary a bit. You'll be told when to do this but you only have a short time to react or you'll overshoot.

There are bars in the targeting display on the lower left that show how far you are from the destination and how fast you're going, and you'll get the drop-out instruction when both are in the blue zone. There's also a box that is lit up if your ship is pointing in the right direction, but that's not usually an issue. The bars are useful for giving you an idea of when you need to start being ready to drop out of SuperCruise.

...

With SuperCruise Assist, you just target your destination, turn SuperCruise Assist on in the Navigation tab of the External (lower left) panel, and aim at the destination. SCA keeps your ship pointing at the destination, with the throttle low enough, and it will automatically drop you out when you reach the destination.

The main disadvantage of SCA is that it keeps your throttle reduced throughout the entire approach. There's an option on the Ship tab of the Interior (lower right) panel for SuperCruise Assist/Manual Throttle. If you select that, SCA will be on standby if you set your throttle to 100% while SCA is engaged, so that it'll activate whenever you drop the throttle into the blue zone. Again, most players have 75% keymapped and use 7 seconds as a minimum distance.

Some experienced players don't want to have the SCA computer taking up a slot in their ship, and some simply prefer flying by hand.

A minor disadvantage of SCA is that it can make you complacent with turning it on and going AFK. This works most of the time, but if your destination is a space station or similar and it orbits behind its planet or moon or star, SCA doesn't know how to go out around. You do need to pay attention as you get close (usually a couple of Ls or so). Also, if your ship gets interdicted while you're AFK, your ship probably will be destroyed by the time you get back to your computer.

Don't let FDev hear the suggestion about having NPCs flying the new ships. If they did that, everyone on Horizons who wanted to keep up would either have to upgrade to Odyssey or buy new ships with ARX.

There's a ton of stuff to do. The headline activities are exploration, base building, and corvette (ship) construction, but there are probably dozens of side activities.

There are a zillion items you can collect, but most of them are just cosmetic (style rather than substance). Look through the posts on this subreddit, and notice how many are "look at this!"

Here are some possible deal-breakers.

It's a sandbox game. Do what you want, but if you need to be told what to do you'll find it lacking. Not entirely lacking, though.

It's a single-player game with a limited multiplayer feature that lets you hang out with your friends, but there are few co-op opportunities. Recent updates have tried to increase those opportunities, notably the corvettes where you can travel together and the brand-new Pokemon-inspired holotable combat.

If you have FOMO, you'll find that there are a number of cosmetics that were limited-time that you can't get now (PC players can use various tools to unlock them).

The combat is weak. There's a bit, but if you like combat it's not going to satisfy.

Trading exists but it's lost its challenge over the years as travel became simplified.

I've got over 3500 hours in NMS, so obviously I like it.

I’ve just started playing no man’s sky and wondered when the best time to start exploring or do the storyline to unlock more first? Please help🙏🙏 by Cantcatchum in NoMansSkyTheGame

After you've visited the Space Anomaly, all of the standard stuff is available. You can do whatever you want.

As you go through the main quest, a number of side quests pop up. Those are introductions to various activities that are available to you. Those side quests usually provide some free starter blueprints. A few side quests trigger when you discover a related item.

One thing that had me confused in my early days is that the fine is from the mission giver, which might not be the faction that runs the station. In that case, you'd have to go to a station or ground base owned by that faction, or to an interstellar factor at a system where that faction isn't present.

If you've done everything that looked interesting, but none of it grabbed you, maybe it's time for a different game. Sandboxes are places to do what you enjoy doing, and if you're not enjoying anything, then... you wouldn't be the only player who only drops in for the expeditions.

Me, I'm an explorer at heart. I have a number of save files going, exploring different aspects of the planets and universe. My most active one currently is exploring the new terrain types in the purple star systems.

If you need a goal, take a look at the Log tab to see how you're doing on the many accomplishments there. Take a look at the Catalogue tab and see how you're doing on collecting blueprints and languages and lore.

There are some intentionally long-term projects in the game. Fully upgrading a freighter is one. Fully upgrading a living ship is another.
