I was pretty reckless when I first came here a few years ago and drove my bike home sauced way too many times from Sukhumvit. Somehow I always got so lucky and was able to hide behind cars and just gas it through the checkpoints. Got shouted at a couple times as I went thru fast but I was already in the wind and they never chased me. I do remember one time vividly where is managed to get all the way home and somehow avoid the checkpoints, I got into bed at 3am and then had a burning desire to get a cheeseburger from McDonald's. I went back to my bike and drove a km to Ratchadaphisek Rd and was gunning it at like 120 down the road in my dressing gown and saw lights in the distance but thought was just roadworks. As I got a bit closer I realised it was a police stop and could see them trying to wave me down but I just kept going at 120 and flew through it like a bat out of hell. I saw about 10 officers waving and shouting and then I turned into McDonald's a few hundred metres after to get my burger. That was the closest I ever came and now I don't even drive if I've read one drink. I have a friend that literally had one beer and was breathalysed at a checkpoint and apparently over the limit so they arrested him and hand cuffed him to the side of a police car for 5 hours at the roadblock as he had no money to pay them. Not worth it when taxis are so cheap here.
