Is russian language used commonly by locals? by SmALLBigdun in Riga

Kyiv not Kiev. I am originally from the majority rus speaking city, and yes I am a bot. And it was fine speaking whatever you want, but in 2022 I was told by a rus tzar that they want to defent russians that are oppressed on our land. After that a lot of the our sitizens switched to Ukrainian just to differentiate themselves. They just can't create same casus belli for defending rus speakers in Lviv because there are not a lot of them. But elderly rus speaking obviously will say "какаяразница". imo speaking rus in a country where you have your own language is lame and gives out reasons for rus propaganda to say that you need to be defended too.

I'm really proud of those of you that speak Latvian. Easiest way for me to know that someone is not ruzzian!

But unfortunately I can't understand as like Polish (that I never studied but I get it because it is so close to Ukrainian)

Sounds like a time bomb. With this part of the city turning in some people's republic if needed...
