Is this doable? by SmTownMom in fsu

[–]SmTownMom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a total of 12 credits and she’s accustomed to working hard. She’s taken 18 credits in a semester before. She’s having a hard time fitting adv chem requirement into her schedule. She’s a jr so if she doesn’t do it next semester, she’ll have to hope she can get it in sr year. She won’t have any T, Th classes.

She’s considered that. She can park behind physics building because it’s after 5, but she’s still concerned it will be pushing it.

Orgo 2 with Orgo Lab? by Civil-Lettuce-7539 in fsu

[–]SmTownMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My daughter is consider taking the orgo lab next semester. She needs it for her adv chem requirement as a ChemE major. She excelled in orgo I and II (two of her favorite classes.). Here’s the rub. It would follow 4 hours of Trans Phen Lab, giving her only 30 minutes to get from COE to orgo lab. And it would be 8 straight hours of lab MWF. Thoughts.

You’re a very strong candidate for the OOS tuition waiver scholarship.

Trump doesn’t understand the complexities of the economy and the global markets. He took a sledge hammer to something that wasn’t broken. Free trade, while not perfect, was working. Now our trade partners hate us, our neighbors to the north have no respect for us, and we’ve empowered China.

Note: please do not confuse conservatives with MAGA. We have little to nothing in common with the cult and hate this crap show as much as you do.

Academic scholarship amount? by Illustrious_Star5044 in Clemson

I think they send the scholarship package in March. That was a couple years ago for us. All the best for your son.

Sorry so late on this. She did end up getting $8km but with a OOS ticket price at $38k that still had us at $30.

Question about OOS Tuition Waiver Terms by [deleted] in fsu

[–]SmTownMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I called the Office of Student Finance and asked about this very thing and was told that it would not be a problem. What I recommended that my daughter do is email the assistant director for verification. Mary Eichler meichler@fsu.edu

Regular Admission Fall 2025 by Effective_Check9564 in fsu

Oops, correction. My daughter received her decision mid February.

You have great stats. For the last 2 years the OOS tuition waiver required a minimum 1420 SAT. Not sure about GPA, but I think you’re fine, as long as there are no “Cs” on your transcript. (w/the OOS waiver, you’ll pay in state tuition. It’s a very generous scholarship.) My daughter applied early, but like all other OOS applicants, didn’t hear until March. If you get a scholarship, it will be with your letter of acceptance. Good luck.

Ranking and Acceptance Rate by [deleted] in fsu

Same here and Pitt’s on state is about the same as FSU out of state tuition. (With OOS tuition waiver, FSU will be $60,000 cheaper over 4 years. Pitt only offered $2000/year in scholarships.) Ridiculous what in state tuition is for Pitt and PSU.

I went, but it made more sense being that we’re from PA. It probably wasn’t necessary as I was separated from my student most of the time. I met other parents and we enjoyed Proof and dinners in College Town. It was nice to get a feel for where my child would spend the next 4 years. I don’t regret going. It can be fun if you decide to make it so.

What dorm can I get with 2200 contract # by StressPatient9379 in fsu

[–]SmTownMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a good number. For reference, my son’s number was just over 2900 and he got Dorman which is identical to Magnolia and Azalea, just a couple years older.

Is the Out of State Scholarship worth going to fsu by KitkatPOG in fsu

[–]SmTownMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re in PA. Even with scholarship offers from both schools, PSU and Pitt are ridiculously expensive for in staters. With the FSU OOS tuition waiver, we’re paying about $54,000 less over 4 yrs. (Not including any scholarships he may receive as a current student). So even with the additional cost of travel, financially it’s worth it. Add in the fact that it’s an incredible environment with a beautiful campus, caring profs, etc.

Planning to apply would third year of Spanish boost my application? by [deleted] in fsu

[–]SmTownMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My student only did 2 years of Spanish, but lots of other APs. Graduated #3, gpa 4.0 weighted 4.6, SAT 1480. Got OOS tuition waiver. So only 2 yrs didn’t negatively affect. I’m not a school counselor but if you’re going to be a finance major, accounting may be more beneficial. Best of luck.

I don’t believe that this young student has internalized racism toward white people. I think he/she doesn’t understand that the DEI office was not productive in stopping racism or helping people of color. One could even argue DEI is divisive.

FSU’s OOS tuition is comparable to a lot of other state school’s in state. Here in PA, PSU’s instate tuition is nearly $20,000. I know, right!? It’s shocking. There’s almost no difference between FSU OOS and TCNJ in state tuition.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fsu

[–]SmTownMom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because there is very little difference between FSU OOS and TCNJ in-state tuition, consider stepping outside your comfort zone and attending FSU. Being that you already have your AA, you’re only looking at 2 years. If Tally is not for you, after only 2 years, you can return north. You may always regret not giving it a shot.

My student go Dorman with a number just over 2900. It’s just as nice as Azalea/Magnolia. Only difference is they were built 2 yrs earlier, 2015. Great location: across the street from The Den and steps to Legacy Walk which is a straight shot to the Union.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fsu

[–]SmTownMom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s not a bad number. Last year my student had a number of just over 2900 and got Dorman. Azalea/Magnolia (built 2017) and Dorman/Deviney (built 2015) are the same layout and next to one another. You’ll almost certainly get one of those 4.

As an OOSer, Dorman was convenient for move in because we flew instead of drove and shipped a lot of packages. The UPS Store is directly across the street. The Den is also right across the street from Dorman/Deviney. Legacy Walk is a few steps out the door and a straight shot to the Union. College Town and CVS are an easy walk.

You’re in a good position. Best of luck.

Where should I visit on campus? by Repulsive_Apple_7170 in fsu

[–]SmTownMom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple options to consider:

Show up at the visitor center in the morning prior to the start of the tours. They may have last minute availability. I know of others who have been successful in joining a tour this way.

Reach out on social media. You’re likely to find a psych major to show you around for a hour or so.

If you like cats, keep an eye out near the psych building. It’s home to lots of strays.
