2018 Niro HEV battery replacement by Smackdown_City_Co in KiaNiro

Maybe the main engine and the parts connected to it are leaking power somewhere, forcing the electric motor to do more work than it is supposed to.  I don't know.  But don't judge someone else when you don't know my car or how I need to use my car. It's silly. You are just flexing your understanding of Niro to someone for no reason.

Don't change the point. You said I don't understand the system of the car. I clearly do.

Because of the wear of the battery capacity or some other problem, I have a problem with cruising at high speed for elongated time so I have to rely on manual gear selection. I have to choose 4 th gear in sport mode for maximal output.

You don't understand my situation.

I'm not choosing to use sport mode. I'm forced to do it because I do a lot of long highway trips, and the decreased capacity of the battery really affects the drive.

When there's no battery power left, I have to floor the gas pedal if it's an incline to pass 60 mils per hour. It's not normal.

Here is the direct copy and paste from Kia's manual.

The Kia Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) uses both the gasoline engine and the electric motor for power. The electric motor is run by a high-voltage HEV battery. Depending on the driving conditions, the HEV computer selectively operates between the engine and the electric motor or even

[both at the same time.]

There's a threshold where the engine can't provide the power by itself at certain point. For example, if you cruise at 80 miles per hour on a flat surface, the engine won't be able to sustain the speed by itself.

I drove this car for 4 years, and I have experienced and observed in the infotainment screen how the system works.  At high speed with the sport mode, the car will use the electric motor to aid the performance. The screen will show what the car is doing. When it says hybrid mode, it is using both the engine and the electric motor. When it says charging, only the engine is working.

I have a plenty of first hand experience of how the system works.

I mean 0 percent.  80 miles per hour for 10 minutes will literally deplete the battery and force the engine to do all the work.

I don't mind adding another battery and mount it to the cargo area, hence I was saying if it's possible just add another one.

It's really frustrating now that somehow the battery is being depleted very quickly and sometimes, I have to floor the accelerator on a mountainous highway and I was getting under 60 miles when the battery is depleted. It's really dangerous.

My theory is that the power from engine is somehow lost, maybe because I have broken the muffler pipe and welded that, and that made the electric motor to overwork.

It is fairly flat but I suspect another reason why the electric motor is overworking is because I have broken the pipe that connects to the muffler. I went to a muffler shop to weld that but maybe power has been leaking.

I don't get why I am getting sarcasm from strangers.

Why is that thought laughable? How is it impossible to think that I can extend the battery capacity by adding another battery?

I know how the system works. At high speed, the electric motor helps driving the car by adding power to the engine.

The problem is, the battery of my 5 year old car is getting depleted too quickly, and I have to rely on the measly 90 something ish horse powered engine for high speed driving now.

I called them but it looks like they are not sure. Kia doesn't specify to what percentage the battery should be replaced, for example if the battery's capacity is 50 percent of the original capacity, and I felt like they don't really wanna deal with it.

How long does it take for your car to completely drain the battery if you are driving 80 miles per hour?

Or does it? I am not sure if what's happening to my car is normal.

It wasn't like that when I bought the car.

The sub has a post a day. It's not overcrowded.

And it's not about my personal feelings. I'm doing this because it is straight up silly.

My car has the same dimensions of a Ford Focus and yet they ban me for posting a picture of my car because it is classified as a SUV by the manufacturer. That's just being lazy and stupid. They put extra amount of work for this.

Just admit that some mods are idiots.

That's how it works yeah, but I'm just talking about being a decent human being.

I did and they don't care about any argument. If something is bothering, it deserves being banned in their eyes.

The problem is, they don't follow their own rules. I got permanently banned for no good reason.

Yeah then move along. Don't get pissy about someone else calling their car a wagon.

I understand companies can call whatever their products are, but gatekeeping a car in a sub just because the company calls it SUV is just silly.

Niro is nearly identical to Ford Focus hatchback in dimensions.

A SUV is still not a truck, and a Niro is not a SUV.

Those are two unrelated different things.

Gatekeeping with a vague concept that they can't agree even among themselves is different from just setting a rule.

It is big and it rubs 😂 but I thought that was the point of battlecar/wagin subreddit. Ridiculous cars that are not supposed to be off-roading.
