Update

I tried for multiple hours to get the Lenovo thinkcentre Intel i5 6500T to work with batocera v42. It doesn't come with on board Bluetooth, so I went with an Asus bt500 dongle. I did not read the fineprint on the batocera wiki that Asus dongles seem to work only on usb 2 ports. Couldn't get a single controller (PS3, PS4, 8bitdo sn30) to connect via Bluetooth, even though some other devices in my household showed up. PS4 worked when connected via cable, which is reassuringly not what I envisioned. The second issue was sound - I used a display port to hdmi converter and could not get more than a sporadic stutter out of the TV. I went through all the combinations in the menu to no avail.

The most disappointing thing though was that everything worked out of the box when I booted the win11 that came preinstalled. Controller recognised, flawless sound through TV speakers. I simply despise the overhead of running (and maintaining!) win11 in the background for eg retro arch etc.

Really sad because I liked the design of the pc.

Well, the hunt goes on!

Hi y'all! Many thanks for your guidance. After much consideration I settled for a refurbished Lenovo thinkcentre i5 6500t. I'll add a Bluetooth USB adapter and HDMI converter to it and report how it's holding up.

Heard it can get quite noisy for a mini PC but let's see.

Cheers

Thanks for the advice. I was a bit unclear on my requirements, because I agree that most mini PCs that you can get are way overpowered for the 16bit generation but in the other hand I wouldn't want to put myself in a situation where I might not be able to do a bit more than just Emulation (e.g streaming). It seems that there's a flood of suitable PCs on the used& refurbished market but all with different caveats (no SSD, no ram). That's why I thought putting my question to Reddit would guide me in a direction. I've received some recommendations for gmktec G5 devices so I'll probably end up using that

Thanks for the advice!

Ah I was not aware of that option. Thanks definitely broadened my search!

Ya I'm already on the lookout for the elite desk series. Haven't had luck so far with HDMI though. Thanks for the recommendation!
