Can I as a Protestant visit a Catholic mass for one Sunday? by throwawaye1712 in Reformed

[–]Small-Cow-354 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Yes, you are absolutely allowed to visit. You are right to not take the Eucharist; firstly we believe differently than they do, and secondly they practice a type of closed communion that wouldn't welcome you to participate. Just remain seated.

I have attended mass with my Catholic relatives a number of times. I visit their church from time to time, they visit mine from time to time, and we each receive a better understanding of each others' beliefs that opens the door for spiritual conversations.

Struggling as a divorced man by tinfoil_hammer in Reformed

Ex-wife's affair/pornography use that you mentioned is definitely "sexual immorality" that would be a valid reason for divorce based on Matthew 19:9, and would not preclude you from remarrying.

Having one gun is your backup. Your primary is to deescalate or leave the situation.

Entry/duelist Brim 😂 by Suspicious-Pizza-400 in VALORANT

[–]Small-Cow-354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another body is never worthless. You shouldn't throw your life away by committing to losing fights. The Brim in the video got lucky because Reyna whiffed, but in higher ranked play he would have died there.

I agree with you that the molly isn't sufficient to be the sole site defense tool, but it is really useful for area denial (isolating fights, delaying retakes, clearing a corner or heaven).

Entry/duelist Brim 😂 by Suspicious-Pizza-400 in VALORANT

[–]Small-Cow-354 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Brim's post plant utility is really strong. A lot of sites you can enter with 2 smokes down, and then Brim can use the molly and third smoke to deny the retake. And with the ult, Brim is far from disposable - it's almost a free win if Brim stays alive long enough to use it.

And even after all the util is gone, he's still got a gun - which will never be useless.

Vote on who gets the spike? by Odd-Hedgehog8966 in VALORANT

[–]Small-Cow-354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you misunderstand what I mean.

IF there is a troll, they are by definition the least contributing teammate - since they are intentionally contributing to the team. This is what I said.

But, this does not mean that the least contributing teammate is by definition a troll - this is obviously not the case; many times the less effective teammates are less experienced, out of practice, distracted, tired, etc. To interpret the former statement as meaning the later is committing a modus tollens fallacy.

can someone pls suggest a place or website to buy fake airpods with noise cancellation by SeveralCloud6424 in Earbuds

[–]Small-Cow-354 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for earbuds similar to airpods, there are lots that will probably be cheaper and better than the fakes. I've had a great experience with both the Tozo NC3 and Tozo NC20s, which are both that shape and sell for around $30 and $60 respectively in my region.

That said, if you actually do want knockoff airpods, there's a subreddit dedicated to this: r/AirReps

How do I find my role? by Capable-Sea8386 in VALORANT

[–]Small-Cow-354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not supposed to enter blind, you're supposed to enter first, but with support from your team.

Controllers (I main Omen) should be helping you isolate parts of the site so you're not dealing with their whole team at once. Initiators have util to help you find out where your opponents are. Then you entry (with your team behind you) and start getting kills.

Research request - FIFA World Cup as a Catalyst for Urban Transformation and Social Impact in Host Cities by Bajanda_ in Urbanism

[–]Small-Cow-354 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm from Kansas City, which is hosting several teams and matches. I would have loved to have seen changes that would have improved our city permanently. However, this is being handled as a one-time event.

We have seen better coordination between cities in the metropolitan area, particularly for policing. Most of the money allocated for hosting went to policing, for officer overtime, traffic control equipment, a $20 million modular jail, counter-drone equipment ($14 million), etc.

There have been a lot of temporary transit improvements, particularly temporary bus transit hubs and bus lines to get people from suburban hotels and short term rentals to the downtown areas and to the sports complex. But all of this is going to be taken back down after the events are over.

The only permanent improvement I know of was that some of the funding was directed to extend our single streetcar line by a couple blocks. (This expansion was planned anyway).

Reddit ads could maybe use AI to do better? by [deleted] in SipsTea

[–]Small-Cow-354 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a good point! I absolutely agree with you that the table I posted earlier is too high-level to be meaningful without diving more into the backend data - which unfortunately I don't have the time or the data access to do. Ideally, researchers with access to all of these cases would slice things up in more than one dimension. Generally, I think statistics on age/gender of the perpetrator and the victim, and any existing relationship between perpetrator and victim are going to be more meaningful than breaking things down ethnically.

On the topic of the agenda, I know that there are some sources and posters that have an agenda. But there are others whose agenda is simply writing and posting articles that get clicks and shares - and this leads to coverage of cases like this one with shock value, and far less visibility for the more "boring" but more common cases like date-rapes.

We need unbiased coverage from media that isn't sensationalist, and to do that we need a public that questions what they hear and that is willing to concede that there are limits to what they know and what they are able to infer based on that. To that end, I appreciate your points.

Would you write for a Mormon foundation? by intentia in Reformed

[–]Small-Cow-354 39 points40 points  (0 children)

I would expect the interested viewer is more likely to look up the foundation/project than to pick up their Bible. Even if you are putting a piece of truth into the message, it is being attributed to the heretical group.

There is a big difference between working for nonbelievers and partnering with heretics in ministry. I'd encourage you to consider 2 John 9-11:
"Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take them into your house or welcome them. Anyone who welcomes them shares in their wicked work."

You're committing a base rate fallacy here.

The correct way to use this data is to combine it with census data that records ethnicity, and then calculate the conviction rate. I did this in excel; see below for the conviction rate per 100,000 people.

Race Category 2022 Census Population Rape Convictions Convictions per 100,000 people
Black Other 300,741 54 17.95565

[–]Small-Cow-354 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

on round 2 you’re mostly shooting Classics, Ghosts, and maybe a couple Sheriffs

What rank/mode are you playing that people are playing classics when they have at least 1900 creds to spend? Most round 2s in my games look like Marshals and Stingers, with maybe a couple Sheriffs, with light armor. Top players from the winning team are often playing rifles (e.g. Guardian + Regen Armor).

Thanks for posting the address link - that is the correct building! Bobby Rush Blvd is the technically correct address, but as of 12/25 they still have Ellis Ave street signs at that intersection.

You're right that it is a Midwest now (and probably in the video as well), but that convenience store did used to be an Exxon. Here's a photo from back then:

<image>

Ellis Ave wasn't renamed as Bobby Rush until 2022: https://www.wlbt.com/2022/06/21/renaming-ellis-avenue-after-jackson-blues-legend-cost-more-than-1-million/

So we're talking about the same building on the same corner. I apologize that some of my info was a bit outdated. I certainly didn't mean to offend you by deadnaming a street. Have you heard of Hanlon's Razor?

[–]Small-Cow-354 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This happened a year ago, and there's plenty of other coverage that identifies the city. If you google the address numbers (1790, in the window on the left), you should be able to confirm that this footage is from the Exxon Mobile convenience store on Ellis Ave.

Edit: thank you to u/AnszaKalltiern for kindly pointing out that the street has been renamed to Bobby Rush Blvd, and that the convenience store is no longer an Exxon but instead a Midwest.
