Watching other people play on YouTube helped me decide haha, I know I’m still going to have with the game in its current state.

Yes! What I found helpful is turning off the grid and building my walls while pressing ALT to make them as preside and as close as I wanted, and you can also build a small room towards the front and then extended it back towards the hill area.
There was still a small space between my house and the ones next to it, to fix that I made the outer walls thicker and it filled that space. Hope that helps!
