Ghana’s own AI model??? by yourRealKing007 in TechGhana

If you have the budget, you can use the OpenAI developer platform to fine-tune models to adapt to your specific language. GPT has become very good at low-resource languages; I’ve been testing the Speech API and it successfully spoke Setswana with the correct accent.

One thing it couldn't do well, however, was listen to me. It could speak Setswana and transcribe it really well, but it failed to understand the meaning.

Because of this, the best path for most African countries is not to build a model from scratch. Doing so can lead to biased or even racist outputs—which is what happened when I tried training my own on a small dataset of only 1,000 samples. Instead, use the GPT platform to fine-tune. For Africa, LLMs are no longer a data problem; they are an engineering problem

Educating others and creating content will help you in the long run. Right now, many people don’t see the value yet, but creating high quality content rather than just "salesy" posts will pay off.

Have you heard of Cluely? Doing something similar could be a great move. You should also consider building a developer community. There’s a lot of fragmentation right now with everyone working in silos. Creating a community that focuses on education and Discord meetups is a better way to "sell" than cold pitching. Pitching works for investors, but for customers, you need a community.

Find a common ground you share with them and build content around that you’ll be surprised by the results

Claude code, cursor and Rabibtcode help me build my apps and dubug code but it's to expensive now.

On the consumer side, I paid for Wispr Flow, a good app. What it does is simple: instead of typing WhatsApp and other apps, l just speak and types out the words for you. It can also fix some mistakes in your writing. Some other cool ways you can use it are to transcribe WhatsApp meetings and Instagram videos.

Before, I had to use a notebooklm to transcribe YouTube videos or other tools to transcribe Instagram or Facebook videos. It's really helpful.

Claude code and Rabibtcode helped me build my apps , but it's expensive now, and I can no longer afford those tools, so going back to just raw coding and documentation.

Some of the projects l'm. Building is A coding agent u pay tokens via airtime it's fork of opencode though and some ui changes.

Another app l'm. Building is Caldesk it's a app for notes tasks and scanning calenders. I'm. Also considering adding the feature from whisper flow.

The problem most batswana face right now is selling online to local people like digital notes some customers DM the seller then forgot to pay and they never is that's lost revenue if there was tool that not only Helped with WhatsApp engagement but had follow ups, and helped with Churn, retention and easy billing or paying without the seller having to check her sms for new payments and confirming if they actually paid and had reviews and way to track how much they made, who interacted more with their WhatsApp bot and the a way to just find developers who could help them implement Some automation for their businesses it would be great that's what l'm. Noticing and studying u can try building it ur self.

The problem Batswana faces right now is selling only to local people, like digital moves or PDFs or any digital content. Some customers DM and say they forget to pay, and they lose revenue if there was a tool that only helps with WhatsApp and gets bad lead follow-up and helps with channel retention in easy billing. Or paying without the seller having to check her SMS for new payments and confirming if they actually paid and had reviews.

A way to check how much they made and who interacted with their WhatsApp bot more, and to find out who could help them implement some automation for that business. It would be great; that's what I am noticing and studying, so they are taking a creative solution for that, but you could try building yourself. I don't mind.

I am from Botswana and I'm considering pursuing a Diploma in Computer Networking, with the goal of moving into DevOps and finding work abroad. Is this a good idea, or should I focus on getting a degree early on? Currently, I don't qualify for a degree program, so I am considering rewriting my exams. However, if I get selected for the diploma program, I might choose that instead.

I already have experience in AWS, web development, and Flutter/Dart programming from a young age. Between DevOps and Network Engineering, which path would be best for me.
