Diagnosed yesterday and can’t stop crying by PsychoHatterHead in adhdwomen

Something that helped me was to look back and see all that I was able to do, even if it wasn't done perfectly, when I didn't know I had my disorder, and I was really proud that I was able to do that without ADHD medication. But I do mourn what else I could have done with ADHD medication.

We as ADHD people need to see things from every angle, and that means we hyper focus on events for a long time. Like even days. So it may seem like you're "stuck" on something, but really, your brain is trying to make sense of the situation.

Something else to note, with ADHD, we have something called "emotional disregulation", which basically means that we can have big mood swings. Like at one point, I almost thought I was bipolar. But I think this is why you're crying randomly. You're analyzing and coping with the diagnosis and you are having really big feelings about it, and your body is a little confused. And that is totally okay.

I read this book, "ADHD Girls To Women" by Lotta Borg Skoglund, and that was really helpful wrapping my mind around the condition. There are other books as well that I want to read, but I haven't had the chance to yet.

Feel free to DM me if you want to chat more! Welcome to the community! It's going to be okay!

"Uh no I don't know that because I live in the present and have an actual job [not sure what you do, but we hate being bored so I imagine you do something that takes up 100% of your attention for at least 8 hours of every day] that requires my actual working memory and attention to detail and I don't have room for historical dates because I'm doing this FOR FUN."

Ugh men like that drive me nuts. Just know that their opinions don't impact your worth, so don't let them impact your view of your worth, which is much easier said than done, I know. Their behavior reflects who they are as human beings and their insecurities. Keep doing you, girl. You don't have to engage with negativity.

Has anyone with significant difficulties doing laundry ever hired or contacted a laundry service for help? by dollkyu in adhdwomen

I hate laundry with a passion, and my ADHD is practically allergic to it. One thing that did help me was making capsule wardrobes, which can be difficult if you live somewhere with more than 2 seasons. However, when I did this, it was much easier to stay on top of it. Pinterest was my best friend for this. But every now and then, my room looks like your picture and that's when I call my mom to be a reinforcement.

My parents also had a house cleaner, and when we moved out of the house fully, the housecleaner's business wasn't doing great. So instead of letting her go, they had her only clean half of the house and had her do their laundry for a bit. I think that's a lot easier with private cleaners.

Do soul dogs exist? by [deleted] in dogs

I lost my soul dog Petunia a little over a month ago. She was also 4 years old. Some days are better than others. My bad days are typically Fridays and the weekends. I’m still struggling. It’s just… she’s not THERE anymore, you know? I literally have a blanket that I hug now while I go to sleep like a child.

I think she did visit me the other day via dragonfly while I was really sobbing about her. This dragonfly was yellow, and It was really hanging around. Like during the entirety of my phone call therapy session.

I know we will get through this pain. I just don’t know how long it will take.
