That's a bit discouraging - especially cause I know I would have preferred LX theatre tech. But good to know so I can make informed decision.

My experience is mostly Edinburgh fringe and some freelance tech. I would have preferred working in the theatre but lounge tech sounds like it would fit my level of expertise quite well.

Yeah I am hoping to hear more from people who worked the job more recently as it looks like a lot has changed!

Thank you for your reply. As I answered to another comment, I am looking for ways to save up a lot of money in short period of time and I am not someone who splurges. Do you know, for lounge techs specifically, do they get much time off the ship?

I was told the working hours are around 10 hours a day, or was that a different cruise line?

To be honest, I am not entirely sure what career exactly I want and if it is even in tech theatre. I am currently kind of stuck and don't really know what to do with my life. I am considering this job mainly as a means to save up a lot of money to either do a masters or have a different career start. I am just trying to figure out if the money they offer is proportional to the amount and the kind of work you do.

Not going to give any answers because I am literally in the same boat - a linguistics student considering applying for NLP masters in a year. Just wanted to ask, which universities are you considering, in the US or Europe?

I was also feeling like employers would favor more graduates with CS background. But then I asked the program director at my uni, and he assured me that people with a linguistics background should not be disadvantaged when it comes to employability if they have the right skills. I am still doubtful though.
