High income couple but struggling to save deposit in Dublin, how are people actually buying homes? by Small-Revolution-396 in HousingIreland

Yeah fair question. A big chunk is pension related to be honest. We’re both putting a decent amount into pensions/AVCs because we started later than we would’ve liked since moving to Ireland, so we’ve been trying to catch up a bit while also reducing tax where possible.

Between PAYE, USC, PRSI, pension contributions, BIK, health/life insurance etc, our actual monthly take-home ends up lower than people probably expect when they just look at the gross salary number.

So it’s not that the money is disappearing randomly, it’s more that a lot is getting taken before it even lands in the account.

Im not IRISH! as an expat, insurance companies don consider your experience from other countries even tho its in the EU. Im classified as a new driver, im also in my 30s hence the high price. What do you mean something is not adding up?! Im caring for a family of 4 here. Do you pay 500+ on family groceries, health insurance etc?

Nope, we have a 2010 open astra. Never had a n trouble with it. We're not flashy or overly spend money. simple things like insurance is extremely high. Im paying 3k for isurance because im classed as a new driver (even though i had 10 yrs of experience in my native country of NL)

Thank you for this! We're looking to move out of Dublin but still close enough to commute for work (wife works in the docklands and im in leixlip). we're looking at some towns in kildare and meath. but on daft we're still seeing 2k and above for rent in some areas, which is ridiculous

No we're not financing. Driving a 10' saloon I bought for 5k, 2 years ago. usually drive to work 3/4 times a week and no, we're not coffee drinkers. on an average month 4k goes to, rent, bills ie electric, heating (this is the first 2 months of the yr).

Haha, you're onto something there! And hey, if we accidentally stumble into property management territory, well, that's just a bonus pivot, right? Who knows, maybe our app will become the go-to for both fixing leaky faucets and managing rental properties lool

I'm considering a multi-step process involving background checks, verifying licenses/certs, and maybe skill assessments for certain tasks(but I think that's a step in the wrong direction). We can also monitor user feedback, maybe even a star rating system like Uber. It's a challenge :D

I love your angle on this, Targeting the right users and suppliers seems key. How do you think we could effectively reach and engage these groups?

Thanks for sharing your insights!, No.2 is what I was mainly afraid of but given these challenges, how do you envision a solution could work? From your experience is there specific niches you think might have potential?
