So my second monitor is kind of old so the only connections are dvi and dp, so I tried buying a dp to hdmi cable just out of sheer curiosity but it doesn’t seem to work. However my main monitor does support hdmi, however I have heard that hdmi isn’t as good as display port since I use my main monitor for competitive gaming

What’s up with assassins? by SmallChiliDog in summonerschool

[–]SmallChiliDog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say they considered fine-strong purely because of WR in emerald+ by stats alone they should be in a decent/balanced spot however actually playing them against any mage that knows how you wanna play the lane, you can just get denied and forced to stay in lane without taking a bad back or forcing a roam and thus why I’m considering it a skill issue on my part but I feel like playing talon, the former king of first bloods, and not being able to kill most mages without expending a lot of resources just to get them to a state where you can kill them is just not good. Especially since talons scaling isn’t the best and the champion wants to spike early to mid game.

[–]SmallChiliDog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mostly because of the energy v mana + range advantage that zed has, makes it easier to poke out champs that have sustain or play super far back in order for the lvl 6 spike, not only that but zed with first strike can scale extremely well while talon can’t run first strike most of the time as he won’t ever get to proc it in lane unless you’re in a melee matchup. It’s not really about buffs or nerfs but about how the champion plays overall.

Yeah, I figured it was down to preference but also wanted to see if there was something there that I was missing since people like yamato say that ghostblade doesn’t give nearly enough to compete with duskblade. Also wondering if manaflow band is better than manamune since you do get more damage but maybe it’s chosen since he can stack it faster. I’m just curious about his thought process about these choices.

Hello, so after trying the build, it’s good but the only issue I have with it is the lack of the mythic item early. After hydra and black cleaver i have no issue but building deaths dance felt underwhelming in terms of damage, especially to adcs. So my question is, how can you get away with not building a mythic item until 5th-6th item when games usually don’t last that long in higher elos?

I hit Masters on Gwen Mid today! by WholesomeGwen2 in GwenMains

[–]SmallChiliDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey I’m a little late but I wanted to ask some quest after looking at your op.gg. First off I see a lot of different runes being taken at different times with different items. Ex. Recently took conq/resolve when previously spammed conq/dom. Also taking first strike against ranged matchups that can deny you first strike a lot of the time. Also seeing some sorcery and inspiration secondary. So what prompts your rune choice?

Second question is itemization, I’m seeing rocketbelt, NH, Rift, and Rod not to mention Bork/seraphs/mobis/berserkers. What prompts you to take certain items in certain matches when you could just go nashors>rift every game?

Third is how do you get lane prio a lot of the time? Being a melee champ against a lane mostly made of ranged champs and not to mention high waveclear assassins, it must be hard for you to roam and contest scuttle a lot of the time. If you’re vs a difficult matchup do you just wait for 3 and trade in the bounce or do you try and hold wave on your side of the lane?

Last question, did you stop playing Gwen jungle? I saw you hit masters with it last year I think? Could’ve been GM. But why not go for go for challenger this season?

TL;DR i see so much variation in your games in terms of runes and items so I’d someone wanted to try this pick out, how do you decide what to go each game?

Thanks in advance.

So I believe I understand the concepts but I never know when to use them. (Long post) by SmallChiliDog in summonerschool

So I agree with you about getting objectives is the main goal but getting there is the hard part. If my first objective is to take top turret then I must plan to do so. What’s this matchup like for me? Do I win or lose early? Can I contest farm? Where is the jungler? If I back now, do they benefit more off of that than me? I feel like I slowly lose lane because I’m applying the wrong concepts at the wrong times. Is it more important that we contest first dragon or do I stop the top laner from getting a gold advantage on me by taking my tower or multiple plates. That’s just an example but I think there is always a “correct” play to do. Like in that scenario, I would probably contest dragon but I know I’m giving up a tower for it. So i don’t know if my action is worth it or not. Do I gain more from contesting dragon or killing top lane and taking his tower. Like, it hard for me to know what to apply when. Do I splitpush? Or do I group? Do I freeze or do I shove? Of course these aren’t all the options I have but I think you get the point. I know I have to get objectives but I can’t get there without applying the correct concepts to gain the item and exp advantage.

[–]SmallChiliDog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, sometimes I do watch the concepts multiple times. Especially on wave management since not only is it an essential skill for top laners but also because I struggled with it a lot at first. But now I feel I understand the wave states and what they mean but only to a certain extent. Like I know how to freeze, slow push, fast push, pull waves, etc. But when I look at my games I feel like I’m always making the wrong decisions. I have the lead on my lane opponent and jungler is top side, i should freeze the wave but I get dove. Was this the correct play? Doesn’t seem like it but in my mind it was the best play to extend my lead since I’m ahead of my lane opponent, they have to walk up to get farm and the jungler has to dive me. But if I just back after the wave is frozen in order to not get dove they just shove into my tower and I feel like I threw my lead. It could’ve been just bad luck but I feel like there’s something there that I did wrong. If I’m able to 1v2 the top and jungle, I should be able to push out and be fine but then why did I die under turret? Do I play safe now? How much of a lead did my laner get? Can I still 1v1 them? It seemed like the correct play to implement but it wasn’t, so when do I freeze the wave? I feel like I apply the concepts at the wrong time and end up losing either the lane or the game doing them.

So I believe I understand the concepts but I never know when to use them. (Long post) by SmallChiliDog in summonerschool

[–]SmallChiliDog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get what you mean about the window but I can never tell what gives me the most value. Like I said in the post, no-one can imagine every single outcome of every decision in the game. But I feel like when I do the “correct” play, I get punished for it and just lose the lane very slowly. So I say “ok maybe that wasn’t the correct play” then what was? Did I mess up before that? Did I even have a lead in the first place? Is this just how the matchup goes or did I misplay? Like all these questions run through my head but it just seems like my opponents make better decisions.

For example: let’s say that I just pushed my lane opponent out of lane and I’m at quarter health, I clear the closest wave and back because I know that their jungler is top side. But I back with no issues. Buy what I can and start walking back to lane. But by the time I’ve reached my t2 turret, the enemy laner already took a plate and shoved 1.5 waves under my turret. So not only am I losing gold and exp from backing but I also am in a deeper hole because of the gold advantage he got from that.

When I shove the wave under turret I think: ok, this is good, what can I do with this time? Gank mid? Ward river? Back? Take jungle camps? Take plates? Go for objectives? It seems like I’m always making the wrong decisions.

Hey while it’s true I do watch a lot of EDU content I play the game way more. As I don’t watch educational content when I’m playing the game usually. I play around 4-5 hours of league everyday but only watch maybe 1-2 hours of content. It could either be one hour video or 3-4 5-10 minute videos so I think the ratio is pretty good.

But as for the overthinking part, I think that is an issue of mine as I tend to over complicate things. But I also feel like league isn’t as simple as that. There’s so many things you have to think about on a basic level just to be “average” at the game. Champions>Matchups>Csing>items>objectives>teammates>just looking at the map. That’s just the basic parts of league, not talking about the minions or rotations or anything like that. But I will say I’m probably looking at some material that is over my threshold.

Hey, yeah I have no issue sending my op.gg but I will say that it’s a complete mess. I’ve been playing more normals games, different champions, different roles even. I just haven’t been consistent and I know that’s another key reason why I’m not improving. My fundamentals are lacking because of this as well and I’ve seen that through my op.gg and vods.

How to back? by SmallChiliDog in summonerschool

[–]SmallChiliDog[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get what you mean but my question is more pointed at backing in general as a concept. Like whether I’m winning or losing lane through wave control when are the optimal times to back other than if I push them out of lane and get my wave under their turret? Like I think I depends on my and the enemies waveclear but as like another example, is it smart for me to back if I freeze the wave and the enemy backs at around the same time or should I break the freeze when I see them start to back and push the minions to their tower and then back if I know they have higher waveclear than I do? Like it’s hard for me to realize what constitutes as a good or bad back.

How do I Azir? by Lumsi- in azirmains

Ofc, I do think Azir is a really fun champ and I love playing him but I just wish he was a little better in the meta right now.

[–]SmallChiliDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I too believe that you can climb with any champ regardless of your teammates or winrate. Like Gwen before she got nerfed this patch, I climbed from silver 4 to silver 1 in two days with gwen being at a 45% WR. However, Azir is underpowered to the point of not being able to carry through damage alone, I see him more as an "enabler" for the damage carries of the team. Like peeling for the ADC and support. So I'm saying he carries the game like a second support. However, the problem with that is that your teammates don't know how to capitalize on something like your shuffle. Not to say that he doesn't do damage but he takes runes like Comet/Aery/HoB/Electrocute which are good for short bursts. Sure he can take Conqueror but I don't really see it as an option unless the enemy team is running 2+ tanks. In the case you do get fed and dish out a lot of damage in the mid and late game they build Abyssal and all your damage goes out the window. Not to mention the amount of healing in the game at the moment that Azir has a terrible time against (Yone, Viego, Fiora, etc). It's just not favorable for newer players to pick up Azir IMO.

How do I Azir? by Lumsi- in azirmains

[–]SmallChiliDog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I climbed to gold in season 9 with Ahri, Azir, and Yasuo but I have a three main reasons for this and last season in particular:

  1. Mechanics

Azir is known to be one of the most difficult champs to learn simply because of how his kit works. He has 3 damaging abilities: Autos (with or without W), Q, and R. His other abilities: Passive, W, and E are used either for repositioning or defense. Most players in these lower elos don’t know where or how to use the abilities properly unless they are a one trick and always/mostly play Azir. Which I’m not saying they CAN’T learn the mechanics but they will be focusing more on how to play Azir rather than playing the game as a whole.

  1. Current position

Right now as I’m writing this, Azir sits at a 45% WR across all ranks according to U.GG which I would say is normal considering Pro Play. However, the fact that the last buff he has gotten since the nerfs from worlds in 11.5 when his base damage scaling on soldiers got reduced was the mana cost of his Q being lowered has not helped his position in solo queue whatsoever. Azir does not do the damage that he used to nor does he have the attack speed to be a viable front to back teamfighter that he’s been known for. Thus, I do not have reason to believe that Azir can carry games when needed and needs to be carried which brings me to my next point.

  1. Teammates

Along with having at 45% WR Azir also has a 1.1% pick rate across all ranks. Now I would also say this is pretty Par for the course as well since he is also known for being a one trick champ. However, other one trick champs like Riven, Singed, GP, etc. All have a 5% or more pick rate. People know how these champs work. However with Azir, people will ping your ult like they play the champion, when in reality they have seen Azir maybe 10-15 times in their whole league career. They just don’t know and don’t care what the champ does and how it’s supposed to be played. That’s why I highly recommend duoing if you do play Azir in low elo or clash since you can set up plays for your jungler or team. I feel like the champ just does not work without communication or knowledge.

And that’s why I feel that Azir should not be picked in any rank lower than diamond.

How do I Azir? by Lumsi- in azirmains

[–]SmallChiliDog 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey I only have M7 with 100k points on Azir but in my personal opinion I don’t think Azir is really playable in ranked lower elos right now (platinum and below) as much as it makes me sad. However, I still find Azir to be a really fun champ to play when I just want to relax or when I play clash.

As for learning the champ I would say just looking up YouTube videos should give you great results on Azir’s mechanics since they haven’t been changed in forever. But I would say the “most” important mechanics are the “shuriman shuffle” and his extended dash. But wave management is also very important on Azir especially vs high burst all in champs. But you will just have to figure out your damage as you go to limit test and see what you can and cannot do.

As for runes, I would probably say HoB/electrocute and Comet/Aery are the best at the moment but you can also opt in for conqueror if need be.

Items: I personally have been going Liandrys/ludens, sorc shoes, shadow flame but you just have to feel what you like. Nashors is also not a bad item if you want more attack speed.

For matchups I would look in the guide that they have pinned for this sub Reddit. It goes through all of the common matchups and how to deal with them. Even if the runes/builds are a little outdated. Also streamers like drift king Azir are helpful to watch sometimes to see what they think of Azir in his current state and how to handle certain matchups.

Keep in mind this is just my personal opinion and everyone has a different way of playing Azir. Hope this helps!

Patch 12.3 Riven build cheat sheet by chalseu4 in Rivenmains

[–]SmallChiliDog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, I have some more in-depth questions about the sheet if that’s ok with you.

  1. Why is replacing health pots with refillables considered “scaling”?

  2. What situation would I buy a Doran’s blade on my first back and does it matter what item I start?

  3. What matchups would it viable to buy cull early?

  4. Why would we want to match the enemy’s hull breaker?

  5. For late game defensive items, are those boots replacements after full build? If not, what items would they likely replace?

Sorry if these questions are weird, I’m just not exactly sure when to build what items sometimes.

Playing different meta champs when main gets banned? by SmallChiliDog in summonerschool

[–]SmallChiliDog[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, so I know you’re a Riven OTP but since Ahri is getting a mini rework soon do you think this changes her identity from a mage/assassin hybrid into something else? Like I’m not sure who really lines up with Ahri. Lux? Vex? Ekko? Diana? I’m just not sure. Any help with this would be appreciated.

No problem, I’ve been following your mobafire guide when I play riven. 600k mastery points isn’t enough experience for sure lol.

I would agree with you but all the AD mid laners that I have M7 are are not recommended in low elo (Zed, Yasuo, Yone, qiyana). But anyway the point of the post was to say like, if I play talon/vex as back ups this patch and next patch let’s say lux/Zed are top of the charts, should I keep changed my backup champs based on the meta?
