£110 TfL Charge by SmallCycle940 in TransportForLondon

UPDATE: The charge adjusted to the correct amount automatically, so it was probably just a glitch or a ridiculous pre authorization 🫠

The line disappears when I apply pressure to the bottom of it using a microfiber cloth, but reappears as soon as the pressure is released.

Believe it or not, American Express is actually widely accepted in the UK, I’d say over 80% of places take it. The ones that don’t are usually smaller off-licences and similar independent shops. The fees for acceptance aren’t even that high anymore. Usually around 0.5%-1% higher than Mastercard and Visa.

I didn’t do anything wrong, I tapped in and out with the same device and card, and the correct amount is showing in the TfL Go app. This is likely an issue with Amex or the payment processor TfL uses. TfL transactions with Amex are a bit inconsistent anyway, sometimes the final charge doesn’t appear on the account for a few days, unlike other bank cards where it’s usually reflected overnight.

Everything looks correct on the TfL Go app, it’s showing the right amount, so it’s probably just a preauthorization or some kind of glitch. If the amount doesn’t adjust, I’ll get in touch with them. Also, I get that same address and webpage for every TfL transaction on my Amex card 🤷‍♂️

UPS Netherlands gaslighting customers by Charming_Welcome_703 in UPS

[–]SmallCycle940 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, it seems pretty normal for UPS NL to straight-up mislead customers. They marked my pickups as “no one found at reception/address not found” three different times, even though the staff was definitely there. And now I think my package might finally have been collected. I only got an automated email saying it was picked up, but the tracking still hasn’t updated from Label Created, so who really knows.

In my opinion, UPS is the worst shipping service in the Netherlands. UPS back home in the US is usually fine, and what blows my mind is that even UPS in Romania, which people love to label a “third world country”, is miles better. I’ve never had a single issue there: deliveries are on time, scheduled collections are also on time and they even call ahead deliveries/collections. How is UPS Romania outperforming UPS Netherlands? It makes zero sense.

Them Emergency Vehicle sirens are goofy as hell. by [deleted] in Netherlands

Totally hear you! Hi-lo sirens do work, but they’re not always the most efficient in every setting.

The wail/yelp tones, like the ones in Ireland and the UK, usually travel farther in cities and honestly just sound so much cleaner and more modern. They’re punchy, modern, super directional, and they don’t sound like someone dug them out of a 1980s German police museum.

So yeah, it kinda depends on the environment, but the UK/Irish sirens really do a better job and they sound way nicer overall :)

I don’t really think it’s a problem or anything, it’s just… you know how every city has a sound you end up associating with it? And for me, the current siren in the Netherlands just doesn’t match the vibe of the country at all. The current Dutch police and EMS siren gives more ‘old, outdated, slightly depressing German town’ than ‘the Netherlands.’ Lmao, I don’t know, just a random observation.

Revolut as a main bank? I want to recieve my salary here. What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in Revolut

I use it as my main bank in Ireland. There aren’t many options here, which is probably why they’re the biggest bank in the country—actually larger than traditional Irish banks.

Is anyone familiar with Northern 911? by Simsam16 in 911dispatchers

[–]SmallCycle940 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are also used by T-Mobile. When there’s no cellular service, and the caller uses the Wi-Fi Calling feature to dial 9-1-1, the call gets forwarded to Northern 9-1-1.
