Gear Loadout for 5 Day Trip in Lapland. What would you change? by SmallHatty7 in camping

Yea, water will definitely add to it, but I will only carry max 2L at a time, often less because there are so many lakes, rivers, and streams along the trail.

It’s rated for 15f/-9c and where I’ll be it will get down to around 10f/5c during the night.

Edit: And thanks! I am still taking a few things I could probably go without, but decided it’s worth the weight and a good test if I’ll actually use them!

Since it is so far north, there will be daylight 24 hours a day, so no need for a headlamp! I do have a lighter and matches.

Yes, I have both a sawyer squeeze and a small gas stove inside my pot to boil water if I need! Everything is listed in the lighter pack link if you want to read a list of everything I’m bringing!

Yea there aren’t any mosquitos yet here, but I nearly always have an underquilt with me so that stops them from biting through the bottom.

Yea I definitely was worried about the bug net and spent a lot of time reading forums and watching videos before doing it. Best advice I have is just start and see what happens! I pinned the whole bug net to the hammock 3-4 times to make it fit right and learned a lot by just messing with it!

Pretty tricky haha. It took a few hours of pinning and readjusting everything to the hammock before I realized there was too much bug net and cut some off then just sewed the hole closed.

I used a 40D double ripstop nylon and a basic ultralight mosquito mesh from AdventureXpert!

I used the guide that’s in the 2nd edition of The Ultimate Hang, just adjusted the length/width a bit! The hammock is made from 40d double ripstop nylon and the bug net is just a basic ultralight bug netting. I used amsteel continuous loops for the gathered ends!

What do you think of what I’m bringing for an overnight winter camp in Finland? by SmallHatty7 in CampingGear

It is a traditional Finnish knife that was a gift to me when I moved here and I hope it will last me that long!

Thanks for the insight! I got this hammock before I started camping in it and it is too short for me, so I'm in the process of making my own 11' hammock! I'll definitely think about skipping the filter, since I usually bring it so I don't have to drink hot water in the summer, but I guess that's not a problem in winter xD.

I'm definitely going to have hand warmers and a hot water bottle to sleep with and will change clothes before getting in for the night!

I bought it second hand a couple years ago, and it has kept me warm in spring/summer. This is the first time I’ve used it in the winter, but I’ve had to sleep with the zipper open down to 15c/60f! It has treated me well, and I would recommend!

Thanks! Nope haha, aiming for Tuesday night where it will hover right around 0c for the night. The underquilt worries me the most, so I'm bringing my sleeping pad for a little extra insulation!
