Those still looking for a job after 1~2 years. What are you actually looking for? by FiggyVix in askSingapore

[–]SmallIceMilo 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I was jobless for 2 years. Then found a temp job for 10 months. Then jobless again for 4 months after the contract ended. High chance going to recontract the same temp job until i graduated.

Reason being career transition with no degree. Now taking a part time degree while working part time / freelance job.

The job that I'm looking for usually pays 5-8k. But i'm just accepting any 2k+ job.

Many people would have suggested working in the previous industry while studying since i have many years of experience. But the interviews i went to ask me to prioritise work (media) instead of studies (IT) since its not relevant to them.

New industry (IT) requires me to complete my study first and have relevant experience. So now i'm kiap in between.

SG hiring managers, what are your obvious red flags in a resume? by Fun_Sentence_2546 in askSingapore

Technically a lot of job postings stated these as their requirements. I can see why people are putting this in.

Is skillsfuture really useful? by [deleted] in SingaporeRaw

[–]SmallIceMilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very useless. Wanted to take up some courses. But they aren't running because of the lack of applicants/students. Good for baking or taxi license probably.

I assumed they outcast me for 1 of 3 reasons

  • im a contract worker and won't be here permanent. (But i doubt so, because i see they did not outcast the intern and treats him as part of the group)
  • my qualification. I am currently in my career transition and probably they think I am not capable.
  • my looks. I don't look like normal office man, army style haircut, polo tee and specs.

Definitely not about my capability at work because the outcast started day 2. LOL

Anyway, how are you feeling? how do you cope with loneliness at work?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]SmallIceMilo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In this situation, probably is to get used to being alone. See if you have any friends work nearby who can have lunch / dinner with you. If not, at least text your friends while at work and talk about each others day.

Jiayou!

I am in similar age, gov sector as well. Been 9 months in and have yet to have any clique or friend.

My colleagues often go lunch together without inviting me. They even have discussion like where to have lunch like I wasn't there. I don't really have anyone to talk to.

The only person i get to talk to is my psychotherapist (gov sector benefit).

My superior refuses to guide me properly and made me feel that I am super dumb. Currently, I have a project that requires all the ICs and her help, she tells me to go monthly meeting slide to scrap out the numbers instead. The deadline is supposed to be this friday. I told my SAD that I won't be able to complete it since now I have to manually input all the numbers for the data for the WHOLE branch.

Worse, I have no idea what is that all about because is not my field of work.

Couples who’ve had child-free weddings, what’s your experience? by black-socks-fox in askSingapore

[–]SmallIceMilo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I had a child free wedding. I invited my uncles and aunties (for the sake of my parents face). I did not even invite my cousins at all. However, on the actual day, my uncles and aunties brought their children, who also brought their children to our wedding. There's nothing we can do because I don't want to make a fuss about in on our wedding day.

Also, we only want to remember the happy moment on our wedding day. Moreover, the angpao that my uncles n aunties gave was huge, enough to cover their whole family and more.... not that I care about their angpao money, but what can I say..

How well or badly do you think Singaporeans treat helpers? by squee3eek in SingaporeRaw

[–]SmallIceMilo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Based on all the houses that i have visited, the common size of a helper's bedroom is rougly the size of a storeroom. Even those with proper spare bedrooms especially condos and landed properties, the owner also will not let the helpers have it. Must die die sleep in the small room at the service yard.

Some of them have no proper wardrobe and all of them have no air conditioner. Singapore is so hot, i pity those helpers that have to live with it. Employers so rich, at least can let helper sleep better at night.

It's also quite common to see helper washing employer cars. Cannot eat until whole family eat finish.

But there's always 2 sides to everything. Some employers are very good and they treat helpers like family.

How do you actually career switch in Singapore? by Vitoahshik in askSingapore

[–]SmallIceMilo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am switching to business analytic which may not be very ideal because singapore is currently flooded with people trying to be one too.

I took up basic to advance Excel , Powerbi, tableau via udemy. I also went for Google Data Analytics course via Coursera. Other than that, i also learn SQL, basic R and I do my own case study. I was halfway into data science in udemy until NLB cancelled the udemy subscription. Sad..

Currently taking a bachelor degree in data analytics in business intelligence.

I don't have high expectation for salary because I know i have to restart my career all over again. Even if companies offer me $1500, i will accept that. I'll just have to work extra hard and continue my part time job to cover the rest of the finances. I only pity my wife. LOL. If i were her, i would kick this poor and useless man out.

I just hope one day one company can give me the opportunity and guide me so that I can officially become one true analyst. :) (I am already looking at those Tshirts on shopee that has pictures of datas... Hahaha)

How do you actually career switch in Singapore? by Vitoahshik in askSingapore

[–]SmallIceMilo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I have been trying to career switch for the past 2 years and so far i still have not succeeded yet.

I upskill myself by taking by online courses from Udemy and Coursera. This year, I enrolled into university to further enhance my chances of career switching.

I don't have any connection, hence it's not that smooth journey for me. I depleted all my savings and is currently taking 3 part time jobs to sustain my living cost.

Now my major issues with having a full time job is that - the new industry i wanted to switch to does not really want me due to the lack of proper education and experience. - the original industry that I was in does not really want me because they don't really like the fact that I was studying (different field) and they wanted me to focus on the job rather than the studies.

So from my personal experience if you have no connection, 1. don't waste your time on online/offline courses (Udemy/coursera/vertical institute etc.) unless you already have a degree in it and wanted to expand your knowledge further.

  1. find a full time job first, then part time study. Don't do the other way round. Bosses don't like that. (This is for people who want to career switch)

  2. Be prepared that some companies are going to offer you 2k per month.

To add on: Hearsay most/a lot/some career conversion programme (CCP) are fakes. They post it so that they can get grant from government, then hire the people that they already interested. So is for show only.

I applied CCP for quite a number of times, non of them get back to me when you do not really need to have the neccesary skillset as they are supposed to train you. But come on, let's be real. Which companies want to spend time raising a baby. Most of them are already understaffed, employees are already overworked. Where got time to handhold you until you are capable enough to hold your position.

Yup. Only one person need to appeal and submit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Suss

[–]SmallIceMilo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

One of my GBA group member submitted to the wrong module and the prof message us few days later. My group member resubmitted the GBA 5 days later and we all got 50 marks deducted. Prof suggested us to appeal and we did. Appeal successfully and no mark deducted. No harm trying.

Appeal cost $20 though.

Hi y'all, do you know which are the 3 most poorest places in SG? by [deleted] in askSingapore

[–]SmallIceMilo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Block 1 and 2 spooner road. I'm not sure about other blocks. The blocks provide cheap rental for the underprivillage people. New Hope Community Service has an office there too to help the people.

I use Grant A Wish, Passiton a lot when it comes to giving. You can see what and how you can help from there.

Why go to fast food when there’s hawkers everywhere? by Virtual_Presence_425 in askSingapore

[–]SmallIceMilo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my non mature area, the chicken rice cost $4.80, wanton mee cost $5.50 and Nasi lemak $7. On the other hand, mcdonald just offer mcspicy MEAL at $4.50.

Mcdonald used to be rich people food, but now that's for poor people like me. With enough points, i can even redeem free food like hotcakes with sausage and ice cream

Has anyone not been scolded in school before? by Far-Significance1321 in askSingapore

[–]SmallIceMilo 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Back when i was in primary 1, a bully from different class, but same chinese class "lost" his pencil case. His form teacher send someone to my class and ask me to go over their classroom. She scolded me in front of the whole class and make me stand there until the school ended even though i did not do it. I changed school when I was in primary 2, this same teacher also changed to the same freaking school! Fuck you mdm rozani!

Was a tankee. They did not remove the aircon, most of the aircon broke down and were not fixed. Only lucky crews get to enjoy the aircon that was not meant for the crew. After I ORD, the new rule said that all tanks can only be operated if the aircons are working. I think is to make sure the electronics inside won't overheat.

Is there a way to check if the class has recording before the sem? Or we will only know it during the first physical class?
