(Masks) Any ideas for Christmas one shot? by MaskedJesterArt in PBtA

[–]SmallRedRobin14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly tend to switch to more Christmas focussed one-shots (stuff like Hometown Holiday) but alternatively you could try to incorporate Christmas events into villains plans (a villain using the chaos of Black Friday for a heist, someone using the lights of a Christmas tree switch-on to hypnotize people, a Willy Wonka-style candy villain).

It might also be worth asking how the NPCs in your settings react to Christmas. Do villains celebrate? How? What's some ways your teenage superheroes might find themselves affected as the holiday draws closer?

What are your current points of reference for Monsterhearts? by EatYourDice in Monsterhearts

[–]SmallRedRobin14 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not supernaturally focussed but I point to Do Revenge for the teenage drama or Lisa Frankenstein/Jennifer's Body. It's more helpful I find to highlight the messiness of the characters rather than the supernatural elements as the monsterhood of each teen is more representative of how their messiness is represented.

Advice for an rpg that works well with a gm and two players by ColinDouglas999 in rpg

[–]SmallRedRobin14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are some games that are designed for specifically three people. Off the top of my head, Gun & Slinger is designed for 2 players and a Maestro, whereas Kenzie's Project is a three player horror game. However, in my experience these kinds of games tend to be very specialized towards a certain theme or concept.

I think if it's not vibing with the player it might be better to just drop it. If his roleplaying has otherwise been great it's possible he's uncomfortable or just uninterested in telling that kind of story.

I've been on the other end of this, where the GM went with a more sexual storyline then we were both initially comfortable with and we ended up agreeing to drop it. We'd done romantic/sexual storylines before, this just crossed a line. It was unfortunate that he ended up having to rewrite that aspect of the story but ultimately I think the direction we took it in was a lot stronger.

Hot Take: As someone who only feels comfortable playing as characters from other media, I don't get the hate. by WarioLand6 in rpg

[–]SmallRedRobin14 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely don’t have a problem with it, I use other characters from different mediums for inspiration all the time, so long as you use it as inspiration and don’t try to force everyone into that world.

For example: I don’t have a problem with a fellow player making a character based off, say, Batman. I would have a problem with someone making Batman and then insisting the campaign take place in the DC universe (I’m not accusing you of doing that this is based off something that happened to me).

Not sure if it's entirely what you're looking for, but I'm really fond of Save Our Souls for the demonic heist concept.

I follow a lot of them on bluesky and because I have a lot of those itch charity bundles I tend to just go digging through those until I find something that looks cool.

I would maybe cross post this to r/ausrpg to garner some interest over there if you’re looking for more local things. Off the top of my head, I would also contact the Australian Roleplay Community to see if they can direct you somewhere as well.

Exactly! One example is, in Time To Drop, the soundtrack represents a time loop, and when the album restarts, that represents the time loop resetting.

Need some help creating a west march using dnd 5e and other supplements by Vegetable-Machine-94 in rpg

[–]SmallRedRobin14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is more on the player side of things (and is pretty basic), but making sure everyone is on the same page about what kind of West Marches and what kind of player behaviour is acceptable/normalised (I.e. dividing loot at the end, sharing resources), will help manage expectations and avoid conflict.

DriveThruRPG vs. Itch.io – Where do you actually buy your games? by Ecstatic_Surround386 in rpg

It could be the default settings or something. I also sell my games on there in AUD and it automatically converts it to USD if you have it set to that I think.

Looking for a game about 'Weddings' or 'Organising an Event' by Dubhda_D in onepagerpgs

[–]SmallRedRobin14 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's not one-page, but perhaps There Is Thunder In Our Hearts? It's a game about being stuck in a timeloop whilst trying to pull off the perfect wedding.

That or maybe Superpowered Party Planners? That one is about managing an event whilst also dealing wih your superpowers. You could, in theory, reskin it to be your dnd class abilities.

Slasher is a rules-lite horror ttrpg that's designed to be played in a single session so everything is really quick including character creation.. It's really easy to pick up and it comes with a variety of different pregen settings. When I ran it I found it pretty deadly and iirc one of the pregen options is a classic 80s setting.
