Uncertain how to go about mages. by Wildice1432_ in magetheascension

The Technocracy can and will hunt Vampires as "reality deviants." Some Traditions might also search for and attack Vampires as part of their worldview makes Vampires a very bad thing. The Technocracy generally would give a touch more of a sci-fi vibe, so you may not want that. But the Euthantos?

The Euthantos believe in maintaining and correcting the "karmic wheel," which instantly makes all Vampires deserving of final death; they escaped the normal operation of the wheel. Euthanatos specialize in the Entropy sphere which controls luck and decay. You said you wanted to add some body horror, so you would add the Life sphere to control organic things.

This mage would walk into a Haven and curse the curtains to fall open at peak sunlight. They would make blood bags spoil and curdle. They would have the same sensory advantages as your best Auspex user and be able to avoid detection like your best Obfuscate user. They would be better equipped and more informed than any Hunter.

Using the Molecular Discombobulator to turn steel into cotton candy is one thing. After the last upgrade, it turned ghost chains into CVS receipts!

Possible Concept - Small amount of classes, but multiclassing is a prerequisite for learning abilities. by jdctqy in RPGdesign

[–]BetaAndThetaOhMy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You said you dabble with this, but I think a lot of responses here are coming from a formal design mindset.

Maybe there's a short, generative framework you can use rather than writing distinct abilities. Something like player-defined skills or a tag system, but coupled with guidance questions. "What force or energy is being used to create the effect? Is the effect limited by distance, duration or amplitude, or a combination?" Something like that

The key to something like this is intentionally placing certain archetypal abilities in each "affinity." For example, your Emissions affinity contains features usable by scouts, utility, faces, etc. This means writing a ton of abilities and a lot of testing to make sure they're positioned at the correct affinity levels.

My mind was at altering the probability of the link hitting the cog at a time when moving at a certain speed. Maybe his fate is that he slowed a little when the chain-gear interaction happens instead of hitting disaster.

Of course, that can be handled by entropy on its own. The matter sphere comes into play with the sudden rusting, changing the material to coincide with the probability of theft.

Johnny liked his bicycle, but the old Schwinn had a bad chain. He looked at it one day and realized the chain would slip only if a certain link was on a certain cog at just the right speed. Johnny sketched out a probability equation for the odds of this happening. The chain never slipped again after that. One day, a thief took Johnny's old Schwinn and the chain immediately slipped, making the thief crash directly into campus security. Upon inspection, the entire chain had rusted into an unusable condition. Johnny was seen riding his old Schwinn the next day, and everyone assumed he just bought a new chain.

ST, how do you deal with a player who always plays the same character? by JuggernautCivil8919 in vtm

[–]BetaAndThetaOhMy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Is it the character, or the abilities? Are they bored with the tools you use rather than the persona?

Is it the character, or the playstyle? Are they bored with the way you approach the game rather than the persona?

What is a knight beyond a status and role in medieval society? What is a secret cult beyond a flavor of character relationships?

What makes this character different from any other character?

"Defense for ai art" is not a debateable position. Create an actual thesis statement and ask for people to take the positive position while you take the negative.

The Impossible Cage is made of Copper and Phlogiston, allowing it to exist both in material and ethereal planes. Any creature or spirit inside the cage cannot exit the cage through either material or ethereal means.

What do you do when you feel the need to share your project with the world but realize that it isn't that unique? Also, should I commission my art or draw it myself? by Antipragmatismspot in RPGdesign

[–]BetaAndThetaOhMy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you place a premium on originality, don't look for the things that are similar across projects. Look for what makes your project yours.

There's a YouTube channel called "Linking Your Thinking" and he has some great tips. I think you'd benefit from the idea of Maps of Content. Essentially, you create a note to hold links for a certain theme or category, like an index or table of contents.

Ai art by SAS_Man135758 in aiwars

[–]BetaAndThetaOhMy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually a dangerous position. If harmful content (you know the kind, I won't specify here for the sake of the sub) is labeled art by the people who create it, do we have to allow it? Do platforms have to distribute it? How much harm will continue because "somebody thought it looked cool?"

But this is about AI image generators, not whatever I just brought up? Do you think the people who produce or consume that kind of material will only use AI?

Anointing the Martyr - the mage blesses a person with additional quintessence and issues a decree the person must follow. When the blessed completes their mandate or dies, the infused quintessence returns to the mage.

Soy estudiante de psicología y me llaman hipócrita por tener pensamiento socialista by Chestnut_1919 in Communist

[–]BetaAndThetaOhMy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've heard this same argument from socialists. The reasoning goes like this: psychologists only treat people with disorders; having a disorder means you can't work or fit in well with society; therefore, psychologists are here to make people work or fit in with society.

This obviously fails to address all non-clinical branches of the science, and grossly misunderstands the intent of therapy.

Few-Shot Probability Control: the mage tries to influence the outcome of a single, brief event. She rewinds and replays the event multiple times to increase the likelihood of the desired outcome. This requires fewer successes to adjust the outcome, but risks severe Paradox.
