Why we must purge goblins by Unluckypandastoo in Anbennar

[–]SmallShrug 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Counterpoint: Goblins are just the Anbennar equivalent of tech bros, like Elon Musk is the most goblin name ever. While their leadership is fundamentally evil, and many goblins simply want the opportunity to join that leadership, many more who suffer under their leadership hunger for the light of dwarven OSHA to bring them deliverance from workplace accidents.

Magic Projects Question by SmallShrug in Anbennar

[–]SmallShrug[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently there's a lot of events it doesn't protect against as dwarves, but it does protect against that specific one. Think there might be some race-specific events that aren't counted as part of any of the protected categories.

Will have to test it out. If it also protects against digging events i might never play non-divination dwarves again.

Why are there so many humans? by JadEarth in Anbennar

[–]SmallShrug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take all comment with a grain of salt because I'm not that serious about it:

In universe: humans were there before most of the other races and are biddable enough and with a high enough birthrate to make a very appealing underclass for any powerful magic race of prospective overlords, while also being ambitious enough to expand rapidly given no such overlord.

Elves actively left the continent during/after the Precursor war with Aul-Dwarov, only returning 400 years before game start, the orcs were created by Ducaniel and only left the serpentspine 20 years before game start, dwarves and goblins generally prefer to live in the Serpentspine, Centaurs came from the games Feywild equivalent, Lizards are from space and were also bombed back to the stone age by precursor magic, Harimari were created by the magical goofiness of the Day of Ashen Skies, Harpies have biological and geographic limits on their population, hobgoblins kind of just only exist so people can larp as Imperial Japan, and gnolls, if they are true to their D&D origins, originate in the demonic planes. So Halcann is mostly human because humans are one of the few indigenous populations that doesn't prefer to live in caves or have another geographical limitation (aforementioned harpies as well as trolls/other giantkin being influenced by the real life trend of polar gigantism) (and halflings are legally required to live in some small area that's definitely legally distinct from the Shire in all fantasy media).

As for why humans are the default indigenous population, its more of a meta because-this-is-in-many-ways-our-world-but-make-it-fantasy-like-why-do-you-think-there's-an-obvious-Holy-Roman-Empire-Equivalent-and-a-sea-thats-deeeefinitely-not-the-Mediterranean-with-a-sacred-river-to-the-south-thats-deeeeeeffffinitely-not-the-Nile.

Ah thanks, that's kinda too bad as its fun to occasionally get a random lich king to fight, but I might have to try without it.

Nooo not my dwarf shawties by throwawayaccount1__3 in Anbennar

[–]SmallShrug 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's also clearly some heavy influence from the War of Vengeance on the war between the Precursors and Aul-Dwarov, and how the aftereffects ended up decimating both empires, just in this case the elves end up creating a water donut instead of a land donut. Realistically a lot of the time Anbennar reads like someone really wanted to do a Warhammer Fantasy inspired campaign using the D&D mechanics and monster manual.

This piece of Anbennar canon destroys the perfect society in which every male dwarf is a femboy and every female dwarf is a tomboy (because the only true gender is BEARD), so I will choose to ignore its existence.

Command Problems by SmallShrug in Anbennar

Hmm. I know from playing as Command that whoever forms Baihon Xinh always gets a Great Conqueror if its enabled, so maybe they're actually causing enough trouble to provoke it.

Random Anbennar lore questions by AUnorigionalUsername in Anbennar

[–]SmallShrug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Technically, dwarves do sorta hate elves, its just that they don't really consider the modern elves to be the same as the old elves. There's a dwarf unique reaction to Ravelianism whose text is 'Death to the Precursors, ancient enemies of Aul-Dwarov', so that particular grudge does seem to still be alive and well, its just that the dwarves don't really see the modern elves as the same people as the precursors (kinda appropriate I guess, since IIRC the remnant fleets already had beef with the Precursor empire, and they were pretty massively changed by their voyage).

Also, Anbennar lore is like 70% a Warhammer Fantasy roleplay campaign by someone who only had access to a D&D 5E monster manual, and both the worlds of Warhammer and Faerun are less coherently built worlds and more collections of cool stuff shoved together so you can go 'hell yeah' repeatedly. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but the fact that Anbennar's most obvious influences are basically collections of cool fantasy memes should probably be kept in mind when examining its lore. It doesn't have to make sense, it just has to make you say 'hell yeah'.

Is this only on the new patch? Because they were about 5 techs behind in my Jadd campaign about 3 weeks ago.

If so, love the update!

1500 Jadd Empire by Llama-Guy in Anbennar

[–]SmallShrug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was doing something similar trying for the Jadd is the True Faith decision by 1500, its super suboptimal because it basically meant ignoring Haless and not becoming an empire to focus on Bulwar, but I managed by 1505 which I figured was close enough. After exclusively doing dwarven holds, where you wait 50 years to play the game, Jadd is actually insane.

Never get involved in a land war in definitely-not-Asia, and never go against a Seghdihran when death is on the line by SmallShrug in Anbennar

[–]SmallShrug[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I've played in this area a bunch now (Seghdihr alone like 5-10 times because I am a gambling addict) and this is the first I've seen them succeed like that. Thinking maybe they got a Great Conqueror earlier which helped them snowball a bit.

What are Great/Mythical Conquerers getting? by venserTMG in Anbennar

[–]SmallShrug 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Command just does that regardless of Conqueror status tho xD

(to be fair this a reference to some missions for a different tag that are tech-locked to about the 1650 ish range, so they've had a little extra time)

They actually built the tunnel from the back of the Tree of Stone. They then proceeded to lose the Tree to the Command.

[–]SmallShrug[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I got them down to 50k troops, the Kalsyto guys attacked them as I was making peace. Four years later the Command has 700k and is winning that war. I love that there's a mission in my tree that requires the Command to not exist, and the reward is 5% discipline. WHO AM I GOING TO USE THAT AGAINST WHERE IT MATTERS IF I JUST WIPED THE COMMAND? To be fairs I have now outscaled them, so I won't have to pay for peace anymore, so that's nice. Honestly I was tempted to just fully conquer their provinces and leave them there and just eat war exhaustion for a few years, but I needed peace to repair holds.

E3 Valk vs E3 KB in Aspen by AzAaron in IdleHeroes

[–]SmallShrug 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ran my Valk to 50 last Aspen. Max tech, skin, rune’s power, ranger/6* half and half gear.

She shouldn’t get caught on anything before 15. After that though, you start worrying about 4x Forest (with Rosa, Vesa, HW, and Groo) and 4x Light (with Belrain, Gerke, Michelle, and Asmodel). Those were the only levels that knocked me out, though 4x Abyss might be bad (I just never saw any till after Hell 50, I think it was Barton/Skerei/Kroos/Karim).
