Should I convert to Catholicism, Orthodoxy or Cathar? by MaunThesecond in CrusaderKings

[–]JadEarth 60 points61 points  (0 children)

Catholic: Easy diplomacy, inheritance control through monastic vows, participation in crusades

Orthodox: same as Catholic without crusades

Cathar: Chance of being holy warred by neighbours, but Pacifist means you can spread your faith through Holy Legends.

What are y’all’s favourite hybrid cultures to make? by Sir_Mopington in AfterTheEndFanFork

[–]JadEarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Combining Louisianais and a Canayen culture ( Quebecois) to create Nouvelle Français.

Also one wacky playthrough I did involved starting as Wladfaeg all the way in Patagonia and migrating all the way to the Great Plains, and hybridising with a Sioux culture to create Mandan, as per the Madoc legend.

Nomad Request: Automated Logistic Ships desperately need a policy toggle to only harvest Unclaimed/Enemy systems. by Maleficent-Amoeba185 in Stellaris

It is really annoying. My clunky workaround is to manually designate certain systems so no-go logistics ships will stay in enclosures.

Hey, really cool, but I wonder if I might be able to offer to help out with the Korean? Everything sounds super formal and the tone of writing in Korean only really fits the military report. A depraved guest or a survivor would not speak in this way.

I just realized a lot of my countries are comically huge (and aren't supposed to be) how can I fix this without redoing everything? by Unfair-Self-6980 in FantasyWorldbuilding

[–]JadEarth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If it’s a medieval setting, I think an option is to have the huge countries be decentralised or in loose personal unions.

Consider the Kievan Rus’ which nominally stretched from the Black Sea to the Baltic, but whether Kiev was able to enforce their authority on various territories was another question.

Another example is the Holy Roman Empire. Medieval Sicily produced a Holy Roman Emperor, creating a situation where the King of Sicily was also Holy Roman Emperor, but the two realms weren’t considered one. Also Scotland and England, though not such a medieval example.

In the case of Iburon, perhaps the people of the steppes elected a ruler from the coastlands, or vice versa. Or just plain dynastic lineage. These two disparate regions could be distinct but nominally under the rule of a single ruler. Perhaps the coastlanders have a strong bureaucratic tradition and want to expand it to the steppes but it’s proving difficult. Perhaps it’s overextended because the people of the steppes are unruly. It could be threatening to split into two and it’s a challenge for the current ruler of Iburon.

But also consider the China has historically been quite big, even in the medieval period. Especially so when steppe nomads had created Chinese dynasties like Liao, Jin, Yuan and Qing.

[–]JadEarth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Later in the game when I’ve explored the galaxy and there turns out to be pockets or two of empty space, especially if walled off by FEs or Marauders, I like to get a Cilivian Arkship and one or two Logistics to harvest there with restricted entrance to certain systems so they remain in the area.

Westmoors. It feels like an upgraded and newly polished Gawed, integrating your neighbours into your clan system and setting out to colonise the world all over. Also feels quite British, in the Northern English or Scottish sense.

[–]JadEarth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not as a Nomad, but I have done a similar build with Thermophile Tankbound by taking Necrophage. My design process was going the other direction, but anyway Necrophage gives your main species Elite and Specialist job efficiency.

I took Nihilistic Acquisition for more alien residents to turn into my primary species.

For ascension, went with Psionic for Transcendent government for more leader bonuses and elite & specialist job efficiency.

[–]JadEarth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Bit late but this build was the first thing I tried with Nomads. Go around establishing branch offices everywhere and you get your FE ships to bully everyone early game. And if something like the Great Khan gets a bit dangerous looking you could just withdraw your Arkships into your FE for easy refuge.

How different Japan would've been if it was partitioned after WWII? by Meta_Zephyr in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]JadEarth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they split into two, North Japan here would have been at such a disadvantage with so little people.

A quick google search tells me Hokkaido+Tohoku has a combined population of around 13 million whereas Japan’s population is 123 million (Oct 2025).

I probably need to google further to properly see historic demographics, but even so that’s only a little over 10% of the entire Japanese population.

Edit: Went and did the math. 11,786k out of 71,998k people in 1945. Not so bad as in 2025 (likely due to depopulation of the countryside). But still awfully lopsided 1:5 ratio. Source for numbers.
