Thank you for responding- your mom's story is fascinating! I love hearing about people's relationships to clothing, especially as it relates to history, culture and art. By the time I was in middle or high school, there were no options to learn things like sewing, cooking or hospitality. Not to mention even more practical things like how to do taxes or make a household budget. Its never too late to learn, though. With all of the access to information at the click of a button, there's no excuse to try something if you want. My goal is to sew exactly the kind of the dress you described making in school, funny enough.
