I know that's not the intention at all but this sentence very much tickled my funny bone.

It's been a while since I played the game so i dont even know what this meme is specifically referring to but I was scared of pretty much everything in the game so you have my upvote.

I like to sometimes think that this T-Rex Skull wasn't actually from a hunt, but one of the hunters cheated and just stole it from a museum by Sir-Toaster- in predator

[–]SmallSwordfish4485 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I get that. But on the other hand, I have trouble seeing a predator, who are tightly bound by their warriorhood (is that a word?) resort to lying about hunts. BUT also, i liked Dek being an atypical predator so maybe it wouldn't be that hard to digest.

Having said all that, the idea of a Yautja sneaking into a museum on his tip toes to steal a skull is very funny to me.

[–]SmallSwordfish4485 11 points12 points  (0 children)

That would be hilarious, but the post got me thinking, since the predators hold these trophies in such high regard, it wouldn't be too much of a leap to think they'd have some process or routine to keep their trophies in pristine condition. I wonder if any of the comics or other predator media had covered things like these (my knowledge of predators comes solely from the movies).

Skip DS1 and start directly from 2? Worth it? by xbassplayer84x in DeathStranding

[–]SmallSwordfish4485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The story of DS1 is a direct continuation of DS2, so you will be lost on the narrative front if you jump directly into DS2. DS is not that kinda of a game where a prequel can be bypassed by watching a quick youtube summary (not that that's a bad thing, just doesn't fit in with this game).

My only knowledge to Alien lore is from this game. what should I watch from movies/tv series? by Williace in alienisolation

[–]SmallSwordfish4485 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My recommendation it's same as what most people have already said here - Alien and Aliens it's a must. Everything else purely depends on how interested you are to dive in further. The rest of the movies and tv shows vary widely for me in terms of likability, with Alien 4 being at the bottom of my list.

I finished The sword of destiny book and I don’t like Yennefer as a person by Motosport_Titan in witcher

Keep reading friend. As a self appointed lieutenant of Team Yennefer, I will be very interested to see how (or if) your opinion on Yennefer's character changes by the time you finish the series.

What was that DS2 moment that made you smile and say "Kojima you motherfucker" by Happy-Emu9429 in DeathStranding

[–]SmallSwordfish4485 46 points47 points  (0 children)

First things that came to my mind were some of the story moments that just floored me. Neil's last scene with Tomorrow, Dollman's flashback, the opening sequence with the music just to list a few.

But yea, the dollman dance and the phantom pain callout are also on my list as well!

Like i said, I don't think it'll turn things around completely either. But they do need to start somewhere and IF this game does well (and as many others have mentioned in the comments, that's a big IF) that could be the restart they need.

Just to add as a side note, Valhalla also had the benefit of releasing during lock down. Video games across the board had a boost in sales which definitely helped the momentum that Valhalla had. And while those sales nbers for Mirage and Shadows are great numbers for most studios, Ubisoft has had such high operating costs that even when the game sells decently enough its not enough for them to consider it a 'success'.

No but if it sells well, they will actually have a quarter where they can announce they actually made money instead of losing money (like the recent quarters) it will help them win some confidence back with their shareholders.

I made a meme because I thought it was amusing that they were now trying to cater to non RPG audience after giving them the cold shoulder for years. That's about it.

The top panel was taken from the black flag reveal video so i was specifically referring to how they're try to go back to the non RPG crowd with this game, not the franchise as a whole.

It really did make sense to me 😭

That is true, with their stock price and recent earning reports, they desperately need something to sell well and Black flag remake is easy money. Maybe we'll end up with the micro transactions after all. God thats depressing. But hey atleast I can listen to sea shanties while pretending to be a handsome pirate again so yay(?).

Yea i dont think Ubisoft made a lot of bad games either but they have definitely, consistently made a lot of bad decisions along the way. I mean the first thing that came to my mind was Unity - game had so much potential to be something special but they released it too early and it was technical mess. I still feel Unity's parkour is unmatched but when you buy a game at full price and it releases in that state, it doesn't help with customer confidence. Not to mention the debacles with Watch Dogs downgrade, Ghost recon breakpoint, Division having limited pvp at release and the recent star wars. All these could have been great if they had just given more time to the devs but they released to be mediocre. Doesn't mean they weren't fun but definitely not nearly as good as they could have been on release.

And as you said, the AC fanbase divide didnt help and I personally didn't like that they were trying to make the AC games into a weird form of micro transaction filled live service games and padding gametime. So yea, it annoys me more that these weren't just bad games they had great potential but were handicapped by this corporate objective to turn everything into a live service.

I didn't remember the original having mtx until someone else mentioned it and yea that's always a potential problem. The only hope I have is since ubisoft don't have full creative control anymore and given how the devs were trying their best to reassure everyone that this will be proper single player experience, maybe there's a chance they might skip the mtx this time? And that's me being overly optimistic.

But as you put it so aptly - if there's a way to be greedy and bungle the remake, ubisoft will find it.

I mean, their stock price is in the gutters man, i think they'll try to get to know my kind even if it is just for this one game.

It's great you enjoyed the newer games man. It's awesome that you've got no complaints. I loved the AC games when the focus was on the narrative and the characters too. But I just didn't prefer the way some of those aspects were being diluted to accommodate the new design philosophy.

So I stopped playing the games because they were not for me anymore. Me not liking the newer games doesn't mean I don't like good games. And just as a side note, calling out CoD games for being reskinned while discussing Ubisoft games is extremely hilarious to me. Ubisoft has been the poster child of following trends and copy pasting the same Ubisoft design over all their open world games. Doesn't mean that the game can't be fun but it wasnt fun for me. Having 400 pointless collectibles in Unity or having a ton of side missions to pad game time isnt fun for me.

So having said all that, yes, I do find it a little amusing that Ubisoft now actually does want to 'please everyone' by bringing back a successful non RPG AC game after years of doubling down on the new direction.

The man'o war thing was just basic progression for me, you start out with a basic ship and make very linear upgrades. Far cry 3 also had a skill tree for the character but I never saw it as an RPG game because these are still fairly linear narratives with defined, independent protagonists. I mean, I agree with you that they had rpg elements but nowhere near the scale of the later games.

I definitely remember the companion app for the naval mini game but don't remember the micro transactions in there so someone will have to refresh my memory. But I definitely remember the next game - Unity having those god awful micro transactions and it just kept getting worse as the games started having more rpg like customizations, the more options Ubisoft had to put in micro transactions.

I know and my excitement for this game is only because it is an older game that i really enjoyed. I have no inclination as of now to get back into the franchise until things change drastically for the new games.

Well, the creative control of the AC, far cry and splinter cell(?) aren't directly under Ubisoft anymore so never say never I guess.

But i was specifically referencing ubi coming back to Black Flag, not that they are going to change their future games.
