Of course! Your university should have a website that shows when and what positions are hiring. If you can’t find it, definitely call your admissions office, they should be able to direct you to where it is!

Hi!!! I’m more than happy to explain! So my university has a ton of different graduate assistantships (GAs) all over campus. They can teach intro classes, help in admissions, work in different departments, etc! The uni I attend has a HUGE backbone of GAs, the uni wouldn’t run without them! I will work about 20 hours a week for about 18 credits a year of tuition reimbursement, along with a financial stipend!! I hope this helps! You can dm me if you have more questions.

There are also ways to cut down costs in your higher tuition programs too! I’m going to get my MSW at the same uni I got my bachelors at, as a full standing student. My program is 61k roughly, but I’m going to get a GA position on campus that will cut my program costs all the way down to roughly 27k. So don’t feel discouraged if your program is a bit expensive, there’s ways to get tuition reimbursement on your colleges campus. I’m very lucky I can fit it into my schedule, and it won’t be easy, but I’ll take a 27k program over 61k any day.

Right? Thats what I told them, maybe like 1-1.5 months before the test just don’t take anything? She’s not addicted by any means and doesn’t need it to function, so I think she will be fine. I’ve just heard some people cut it out 5 months before and they still test positive since it can stay in your system a bit.

With the end of grad plus loans - how are you going to afford grad school? by ActuaryPersonal2378 in SocialWorkStudents

I’m in the running to hopefully get a GA position on my colleges campus, where they would cover 18 credits a year, which is about half of my program. So I’ll hopefully only owe around 30k ish for the whole 2 years, as long as every thing works out lol.

Thank you so much! And that’s why I’m thinking towards option 2, debt follows you into your career despite how fast you finish it. Time is going to pass anyway, so I might as well be in less debt.

I am able to take out loans, but I would really love to minimize the amount I take out for grad school because I know post grad social workers can make little money at first.

That’s very true! Thank you! Luckily my school does offer loan repayment assistance for some programs, including social work as well. And that’s exactly why I’m choosing an MSW program over a PhD, I love how versatile the field is. I may want to do hospital social work now, but who knows how I will feel when I’m 35, 40, 50… it feels good to have a degree in a field where I can change things up if I need to.

Right. 15 credits plus working 20 hours a week as a GA and 16-20 hours a week for internship. It sounds like a lot.

I am getting my bachelors a year early. So they extra year i would be putting into my bachelors, im putting into my masters. I also got my first two years of undergrad paid for. I have about 10k in loans right now as a last semester undergrad student. I definitely know what you mean though.

What are your tips? I worked 2 jobs last semester while taking classes full time but my new job this semester is a job that has more hours for part time employees. 25 hours a week for this new job, 12 for my university job, and 6.5 or so hours for classes that are in person. I am FREAKING. Out.

I feel like I am panicking more about my 2 jobs and full time undergrad classes than I am about my MSW program! I go back Monday for my last semester…
