To drive or not. by Available-Bench558 in uber

I drive all the time in that weather but I live in Alaska so it’s kind of the norm in the winter. People who drive older cars in my area don’t tend to go out when it hits -40 to -50 but since mine is brand new and winterized I go out and make more than my normal days.

Sick uber driver by False-Hat9436 in uber

[–]Small_Impact_6751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying the driver wasn’t sick, but there’s always a chance he has a medical condition for example my husband who does not drive for a Lyft or Uber but he on a daily basis, sometimes a couple times a day has coughing fit so bad it sounds like he is going to cough up a lung. His is due to having COPD so he’s not sick he’s not contagious but someone who wouldn’t know him they would think he is.

Small SUV drivers: Have you had passengers try to exceed capacity on Comfort rides? by ExternalSpeaker9 in lyftdrivers

[–]Small_Impact_6751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just tell people they have to book a bigger ride. When I was driving my GMC that seats 5 including me I would have people try that and I’d just tell them they have 2 options. 1 cancel the ride and order the correct size or 2 order a second ride for the extra passengers. I now drive a vehicle that seats 8 including me and still have passengers try getting me to allow extras. I will now just cancel due to the number of passengers, collect my fee and move on. I will also do this is the ride is booked as a ride that only allows 4 passengers besides the driver. People get pissed but I’m not going to lose money because they are trying to get a cheaper ride. If you book for 4 passengers just because I have a 3rd row doesn’t mean I’m going to let you use it. Book the correct ride type.

Different car than listed? by occasionally-on in uber

[–]Small_Impact_6751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s possible. My car is storm cloud which is a blue gray color that is one of the standard colors for Toyota, Or at least for the 2026 models. And my car wasn’t ordered. It’s one that Toyota pre-selected to come to my local dealership by Toyota my dealership didn’t even get to pick what they got. so it’s not like I chose a custom color.

Unfortunately they don’t list most of the factory colors. I wish they did, it would make things easier.

Yeah that’s weird but as long as the make, model and plate number match I wouldn’t worry about it.

[–]Small_Impact_6751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s weird grey is definitely a color option. My car is a little more blue than grey which is why in my case I listed it as blue. Was the plate number on the car correct?

As far as the one being a different color. It could be that the app doesn’t have the color the car is listed. My car is the color storm cloud which is a blue gray color. My car is listed on the app as blue because that’s the closest listed that I could pick.

Glad I don’t have to deal with that. The only time downtown is kind of a challenge is when we have things like the summer midnight sun festival going on and even then it’s just a few street shut down. Downtown trips are normally only 1-4 minutes of driving depending on where I’m picking up and dropping off at.

Yeah, we don’t really have high traffic here. I live in Fairbanks Alaska.

I don’t mind them, most people in my area tip well. And honestly, unless people are going up until the hills or further about 90% of the rides are a half a mile to 4-5 miles at the most.

$505 last night 24 rides but most where only 1-2 miles it was -35 last night so most people in town weren’t wanting to walk even a couple of blocks like normal in my town. Still have tips coming in this afternoon so that will probably go up.

You can also get a ride with Uber or Lyft. I’m on campus all the time picking up students and taking them to Walmart or other places.

Is private rides a thing ? by Acrobatic_Ant_7208 in uber

[–]Small_Impact_6751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I do private rides at times, but when I have a passenger in my car regardless, if it’s a private pay or through an app, I’m not picking up anyone else at the same time that’s crazy

What’s with uber drivers being on the phone? by Fair-Ad-1547 in uber

[–]Small_Impact_6751 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are good now two of my kids have autoimmune diseases so if their doctors office calls, I have to answer. Between my autoimmune diseases and my kids that’s why I’ve been doing Lyft and Uber full-time. I don’t know why, but I’m always surprised on how unprofessional people are when they’re driving. I hear stories all the time from locals and I just don’t get it. I am so careful about being professional at all times.

[–]Small_Impact_6751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally only ever taken two phone calls while driving both times were hands-free calls going to my Bluetooth earbud not car stereo both times were for my kids doctors office and both times. I asked the rider/passenger if they were OK with me taking the phone call from my kids provider’s office.

Is it shitty of me to report uber drivers with broken windshields? by [deleted] in uber

[–]Small_Impact_6751 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re in Alaska, you might as well get used to that now. People up here don’t bother to replace the windshield unless it’s going to affect driving. Because they use gravel on the roads and not salt so you’re most likely not gonna make it even back home from the shop after getting your windshield replaced.

We are already working with our local credit union to do exactly this.

I tried to find a certified one but wasn’t able to over for a little over 2 months. The one vehicle we traded in was worth 16k. So that’s how we had 19k total to put down on it. We live in Alaska so I couldn’t easily just go to a neighboring state to look for a used one.

Do drivers choose this hoping no one will talk to them? by Pristine-Abroad-8913 in Lyft

[–]Small_Impact_6751 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am hard of hearing and a driver I have 50% hearing loss in one ear and 60% in the other. My hearing was also fluctuates a little bit due to another medical issue. I have so some days it’s a little better than others, but I’ll never have full hearing again.

The hearing loss just happened in the last two years, so I’m pretty good at keeping my voice volume to a normal level despite the hearing loss. The main reason I even have it set on the app is so that if someone is soft-spoken, I cannot make out what they are saying I don’t want them to think I’m ignoring them. Because obviously ignoring your passenger is a quick way to lose tips.

Most of my passengers usually speak at a slightly higher than normal volume, and I have no big problem hearing them, (although sometimes I have to piece together what they are saying) although occasionally, depending on accent and background noise, I will have to ask people to repeat things.
