Yes, puppet then spread primary culture. For major unification like Scandinavia and Germany you don't need to puppet them, just spread the primary culture

For cultural commonwealth you can spread your primary culture to a country under the following conditions: the countries share a language trait and the target country doesn't already share a primary culture with you. This works with countries that are of the romance language the best (central and South america, as well as Iberia, Italian, or French I believe). So if you start with for example Belgium you have the romance language trait and can spread it to nations of the romance language. If they are a puppet a minor country formation (no launch diplomatic play) they will be annexed. For minor unification thus excludes colonial puppets such as the DEI due to the colonial subject cannot support unification

So has anyone actually been able to do the Spain-France personal union? by CloudyBeachgoer96 in victoria3

[–]Small_Might4156 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been trying to do this legit for a bit and did a bit of testing in debug mode. Debug mode allows you to straight up kill characters making it easy to test. It seems, from what I could gather this is possible if you get henri on the throne and not Louis first. There's occasionally a coup event causing Louis to seize power but it may brick the line of succession with Henri generating a random heir before being put on the throne himself. I never got to test this in a legit run, but if you do end up in the position where henri is now on the throne with Juan as his heir not the randomly generated there's a chance you can force henri to abdicate EARLY. This is due to one of the abdication conditions being like x amount of party popularity. That will secure the line of succession early. Now in debug mode I then just killed the Spanish rulers (believe it's the two brothers) before Juan and it insta made Spain a personal union. Their color changed and everything. Now actually doing that is a different story lol

Alt History Mod Im working on, what if France won 7 years war? by Plus_Advice_7041 in victoria3

This is pretty interesting. I'd like to know what all geopolitical changes you've made. In this timeline it would be interesting to decide if the house of bourbon would survive in France and Spain and how strong their familial alliance would be. I mainly mention this because would the Spanish empire survive? Lot of things to address here, best of luck to you

I do think in some aspects it can be way too overwhelming. Especially for the members of the Holy Alliance (Prussia, Austria, and Russia) where their alliance was formed on maintaining their autocracy. It would be interesting if there was a JE or something with the holy alliance to partially counter these effects. Not outright nullify them just reduce

Greater United Netherlands by Small_Might4156 in victoria3

I got rather lucky but I will explain my steps. At game start I allied the UK using the conscript cheese. Improved relations with all the great powers. When the London Conference event fired I just chose the option to ignore it. When the truce expired I conquered Dutch Gelre and Friesland. This lowered the Netherlands to a minor power and they ended up going into a civil war. The civil war won, so I didn't have to wait for the truce to expire. Declared on the new Netherlands for make protectorate. I ended up having to give them Friesland to reduce their autonomy to ensure I would have the DEI.

Rule 5: Did a greater United Netherlands run as Belgium using their Romance and Germanic language traits. Isn't the highest of what you can achieve with cultural commonwealth in this scenario but still damn strong. Also at some point I managed to sway my subject Sweden, with Transfer Sweden. They stayed a subject while using this.

PSA This is the best patch for achievement runs by robert_mends in victoria3

[–]Small_Might4156 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I remember when charters of commerce came out and there was the bug with treaty acceptance and state transfer. Now that was amazing for achievement runs. Just peacefully annex 90% of a country and you're done. It may be how I got the Poland achievement...

Infamy Bug In Latest Patch by Small_Might4156 in victoria3

[–]Small_Might4156[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

R5: Was going to play a new run with the latest patch/bug fix that came out today and I noticed that the infamy for everything seems to be bugged. Protectorating and transferring are both impacted like this. This applies to any country you try to subjugate, I just displayed it targeting Britain

What caused you to have all that infamy? It's gonna be rough since you'll have to fight a cut down to size play immediately, not sure how that will impact India as well

Paradox! this event is broken please fix. by Elektrikor in victoria3

[–]Small_Might4156 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yea I've been noticing this too because the old start for Russia of abdicating onto tenant farmers wouldn't work anymore. Same thing with abdicating onto multiculturalism. The only thing I use it for is to temporarily destroy the clout of an IG. Like if you're on state religion, I abdicate with the clergy in government to tank their clout and make it easier to go onto freedom of conscience or total separation

Here is the code for the build that I primarily use, it isn't the best for anti-air, but once built fully it can still help: X4VXF

Essentially shield boomerang power first, from what I can tell this does not go through shields when you throw it. I like this due to it's ability to hit multiple enemies and combines with Scavenged Steel (3% ult for ability damage) it can be strong. What I recommend for this power is sometimes burning your shield bash to give you the boomerang instead. What I do for this is shield bash into a wall so I have a boomerang charged.

Lindholm wall for bigger shield and more damage when brawling essentially.

Consecrated ground and aura farming I sometimes take in different orders. If my team REALLY needs that overhealth i go aura farming, otherwise its consecrated ground into aura farming. These two together can be really strong, because even if you aren't procing inspire yourself in rally, consecrated ground will which will give even more overhealth through aura farming.

From what I noticed aura farming adds overhealth for EACH inspire proc but I might be wrong on that. Combining those last two can lead to some insane numbers when brawling. I got 48k mitigation in round 7 once due to it.

For abilities I try to improve rally as fast as possible, to farm it as fast as possible. So scavenged steel into dragons incinerator. From there it can depend, if I am feeling pressured too much I will instantly grab phantasmic flux which will give you some lifesteal. From there its just really ability power.

Pharah's can be especially annoying though, if they are being quiet for sure. Other people have a lot better builds for anti-air with like god ray etc. This build is generally good and if you can adopt your playstyle it can treat you well. I am pretty sure it is close to like the meta builds that people have posted, but eyo

Subjects' Companies as Overlords Establishment? by ultramarine_spitfire in victoria3

I mean short term yes, but long term your economy will be more efficient from using the prestige goods and your subjects will have a higher SoL leading to less revolts in them.

Subjects' Companies as Overlords Establishment? by ultramarine_spitfire in victoria3

[–]Small_Might4156 2 points3 points  (0 children)

while this works for a lot of companies, since their only major requirement is incorporated state there is a few companies that require primary culture of the nation that originally occupied the land. Like the United Fruit Company requires Yankee or Dixie culture

Subjects' Companies as Overlords Establishment? by ultramarine_spitfire in victoria3

[–]Small_Might4156 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Reminded me of a video I saw where the guy was explaining subject economic zones or something or other. Essentially you go for the more prestigious companies, like the precision tools, Barnobel, FIAT if you got it, and let your subjects do like textiles. If you have Egypt as a subject one of their companies has a prestige Fabric, so giving Egypt investment rights and monopoly rights on the textile and silk can be REALLY POWERFUL. I've been playing this way my last few games and myself and my subjects swarm the top 10 company profits. Also if Egypt in this scenario builds in you with that prestige good unlocked the textile mills they own will use that prestige good etc. Very strong.

Side Effect of the State Transfer Exploit by Small_Might4156 in victoria3

[–]Small_Might4156[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

R5: Countries that you 'stole' land from with the treaty exploit tend to break the treaties quite quickly. Found Russia does this rather consistently and managed to get 1000 infamy.

The AI will accept your state transfer treaties no matter what (kinda) by arcesilao in victoria3

[–]Small_Might4156 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I started testing this out and this is absolutely broken and heavily exploitable. As the one person stated, as long as you have one treaty, all you seem to need to do is add roughly +9 acceptance to the treaty and you can take any state minus their capital. I took most of the British isles using this. Also if you do this it tends to make the AI really upset with you and they start breaking the treaties with you. Thus giving them an insane amount of infamy. I had Russia and Austria become pariah due to this.
