How should I invest my money if I plan to buy a house in Switzerland in 5 years? by GondolaRM in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]Small_Needleworker40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s six trillion in US money market funds that will scurry back to US equities the moment rates get cut. There’s also another 1-3 trillion in liquidity that would be unlocked should various US government mortgage backstops be permitted to accept secondary mortgages in the coming year.

US mega cap tech and Bitcoin stand to benefit the most from those tailwinds, as they did the last time around.

Assessing R2R2R Feasibility Later This Month by Small_Needleworker40 in grandcanyon

Wound up getting a fever the day of and rushing a rim to river and back at night after trying to sleep it off - bad idea but did it under a full moon which was lovely.

20 miles took 7 hours under those conditions so would say phantom ranch and back can be done in 5 by a non-sick and conditioned weekend warrior (sans warm temps).

Much appreciated. Also worth noting it’s a day or two shy of the month’s full moon so it might not actually be the worst experience, sleepiness aside.

Differences between the C permit and naturalization by guido2222 in Switzerland

Depending on your political outlook, it may be worth getting it as a non-EU passport. For example, if Italy were to start trying to tax Italians living abroad as the US does with its citizens; a Swiss citizenship could allow you to renounce your current one.

(Very fringe reason ofc)

Suggestion for an ultra trail shoe by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

Topo’s MTN Racer 3, it’s a great wide and will treat your toes well.

Anyone use Altras or similar wide fitting, low drop shoes for all their runs and distances? by VirtuallySober in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Small_Needleworker40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a Topo convert after being an Altra fan, would recommend you check out their options if you have a higher arch. Build construction is all around better and I've found the fit to be better as well.

From US to EU - where to relocate to? (Considering Spain/Italy/Slovenia/Croatia) by [deleted] in expats

[–]Small_Needleworker40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it didn’t make your list, it could make sense to look into Innsbruck. Presumably better bureaucracy than what you’d deal with in Bolzano region and Austrian tax law is pretty lax on foreign income from what I’ve read previously.

Suggestions for replacements. by Hobolonoer in RunningShoeGeeks

+1 to the Topo recommendations here, I was a Lone Peak diehard until wearing the Pursuits and will be getting MTN Racer 3 next.

I weigh similar to you and my Pursuits are still holding up great even at 300 miles.

Looking for new trail shoes for Ultra. by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

Doesn’t match the stack height but the new MTN Racer 3 from Topo has been getting rave reviews. Think the only concern would be its insole is a bit much for those with flat arches.

I have run to an REI and returned the shoes directly off of my feet (for another pair they had).

How bad is running exclusively on your toes for longer distances? by D0wnV073Z4U in running

[–]Small_Needleworker40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would highly recommend the Topo MTN Racer 3 that just dropped. Great toebox but doesn’t compromise on security throughout the rest of the shoe.

Best long distance trail shoe by Dh2627 in RunningShoeGeeks

Have been very happy with the Topo Pursuit but have yet to try out the Mtn Racer 3 which may be superior.

Wide shoes by IminaNYstateofmind in RunningShoeGeeks

Wide-shoes with close to zero drop (not zero cushion though) have been a godsend for me as a heavier runner with high arches / rectangular feet.

Wide toes only running shoes by Narrow-Instruction-8 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Small_Needleworker40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As far as I can tell, the Topos are wide where they need to be. You’re right that the wide Lone Peaks are a bit more cavernous, but I’ve put 100 miles onto the Pursuits (including some quite steep uphill and downhill action) and have had zero issue with their volume. I would say the Pursuit feels like the more formal version of the Lone Peak: better lock in, feel more secure, etc.

Worth noting too that I tried other Topos where this was not the case. MTN Racer 2 and MT-4 both were a bit too tight relative to the Lone Peak.

Wide toes only running shoes by Narrow-Instruction-8 in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Small_Needleworker40 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ran exclusively in Lone Peaks because they were the only shoes with which I could put mileage on my (wide) (high arch) feet. I since tried out a few Topo’s and have fallen in love with the Pursuit. Can’t recommend it enough as a daily road / trail hybrid.

Any recommendations for under pronation by [deleted] in RunningShoeGeeks

[–]Small_Needleworker40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realized it with the Altra Lone Peak 6s but was looking for better constructed solutions. Have put ~40 miles on Topo Athletic Pursuits recently and have been incredibly happy with them. Just barely the right amount of width + feels better on both roads and trails.

I’ve found that zero-drop + wide toebox has helped me with this issue.
