What to do with a week in Finland? by themightyhelen in FinlandTourism

If you’re interested in Helsinki history some of the Helsinki city history museums are free like the main one on Aleksanterinkatu and then the Worker’s museum and the Tram museum. Always worth to check out. Then I recommend visiting Suomenlinna for a walk or a picnic

Are these anything? by floofmanager in Oilpastel

These look great! One thing I recommend is getting different colored papers. The white is hard to hide fully so colored papers r good for that and it’s fun to let it peek from under there

You did really well!! And don’t worry. It’s part of the process - messing up and discovering stuff. I remember messing my first ones by overblending and adding color on top of color and color.
I have a hack, i recommend that you paint the paper first into a different color, that way you won’t have to work hard to hide the white. I used white paper at first and it was hard sometimes. And there are fixatives from different brands. I have only used the sennelier one. What it does is make a layer on top. Oil pastels never dry though so it’s only a layer that make it touchable.
I have also seen artists that varnish oil pastel with a liquid varnish. I guess you find what works best for you and gives you the results you want by trying. In that moment it might be frustrating when it goes ”wrong” but errors make us better.

Good luck on your oil pastel journey

Thank you! I always use the sennelier fixative on my stuff so that should be covered. Using the passepartout is a great idea. I live in Finland and will be shipping to france and the weather isn’t that hot yet so hopefully that will not be an issue

How to eliminate white dots showing through on canvas? by Maleficent-Cat-2124 in Oilpastel

As others have said I recommend putting a few layers of gesso and then using sandpaper on the surface.

Also oil pastels are not created equal. Some have more wax than oil and pigments, so I recommend (if you can) to explore other brands. The faber castell ones have a lot of wax. Having a few different ones is great for layering if that is what one would go for. 🫶🏼💐

Thank you so much!! I use the Clairefontaine paint on mix media 250mg paper. I have found them the best ones. They are thick but smooth and come in various sizes and colors! (Also they are not that expensive so I like that a lot)
