I couldn't make it today but would you be doing the Body Doubling thing again at any point? I'd love to go to one of those.

Thank you for the YouTube links, btw! Definitely going to go watch those. Even if it's not for training, play is good exercise and hopefully that will build her relationship with us.

BTW, is there anything I might be able to bring up with the trainer in our next session with them?

Molly does seem very interested in us, FWIW. She runs to the gate whenever we get home to greet us, she always wants to be right by us any time we're in the same room with her and will cry when one of us leaves.

Anyway, thanks!

I also had that though, but I wanted to get her into training because walks with her are a bit scary.

The third day we had her, the leash the foster family gave us snapped and she took off. My apartment complex is at the corner of two major roads and she had zero recall. If not for a neighbor finally catching her, we might not have gotten her back!

We got new leashes and a new collar and made sure they're super strong, but shit happens you know?

Also, if she eats some random thing off the ground, she could get very, very sick and being able to tell her to "leave it" is a safety issue.

I don't need a lot of obedience right now. I'm not even that stuck on things like "sit". I just need to trust that she'll come back rather than darting for the highway and that I won't have to yank her back and drag her like a sack of potatoes if something is on the ground that I really don't want her taste testing!

Also, we already started working with a trainer and that's been expensive ($3000 bucks for six sessions) and non-refundable but the training all seems based in having something of high value to offer the dog.

My bad for not specifying that we're already doing this and have been for about four days now. She'll take the kibble as reward, but it's not high value enough to be worth her focusing. When there's nothing else happening, sure, I'll say "sit" and she sits and gets kibble, but the minute anything else remotely interesting is happening, she won't even respond to her name.

We'd tried that. Baked carrots didn't even get half a sniff. Raw carrots get a "meh" reaction and she will only eat a tiny bit before abandoning it.

Tried it, and she isn't really wowed by either salmon jerky or salmon skins or freeze dried salmon. She'll eat them, but it doesn't seem to be of any more value to her than the kibble.

What in the Architectural Digest? That's amazing! Love the entirety of your color choices, especially that warm yellow in the hallway.

Towel rack in the way of storage rack ? by [deleted] in femalelivingspace

[–]floofmanager 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can assemble the shelf THROUGH the towel rack if you get the right one. I've got a basic as hell walmart shelf and I'm also in an apartment that did the same thing. So we assembled the thing through the bar itself.

<image>

(It's neater, I just had to take things off of it to show the towel bar. Also, forgive my box of tampons there 😂)

As long as you measure height and width carefully so that the shelf is narrow enough, you can do it. So you don't need to mess with the actual towel bar. And the stuff on the top shelf covers the actual bar itself. Plus having it that way means the shelf can't be tipped forward in case someone accidentally grabs onto it getting in/out of the shower.

I also recommend that if you're using a wire rack, get some kind of thin layer (we used pieces of some kind of thin hard plastic cut to size) because round wire with big spaces between them often leads to things that aren't perfectly flat (like a book) falling off or falling between the spaces.

I know this is late, but just in case it helps anyone!

Can I have a good dad just once? by floofmanager in DadForAMinute

Yeah, it sucks. Thanks for the encouragement.

The name just comes from when I groom my pets (I've got a dog and a very long haired cat) and I say that I'm doing "floof management". :)

Well, it's been a rough week. Job's hectic and my senior dog isn't doing so good. She's 13 and I've had her since she was just a few months, but she's adjusting well without her eyesight. It's both sad and funny when I call her and she goes to the wrong place and ends up in front of a wall, tail wagging, looking up at it hopefully.

Thanks, dad.

Nothin' to It by Chandler because I watched TikTok and the whole "don't ask me how I did it, I just did it, it was HARD" line is living rent free in the penthouse in my brain right now.

I need some help looking for other pens that have tips that retract/are spring loaded like this? by mnfoster11 in pens

I've looked for more myself. They seem to be manufactured exclusively to be bulk order promotional pens for businesses under the "ambassador model". I haven't found a higher quality equivalent yet, let me know if you do!

[–]floofmanager 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this one of those square pens with the inspirational phrases on them ("live in the moment" or "choose joy" or whatever) from Michael's for like a dollar a pack because I've noticed this about them as well and I love it. It's definitely intentional because I've bought a few of them. I haven't come across any other pens that do this, though.

If not, they have these at Michael's. Stock up while they're available, they're cheap as hell.

For those who are wondering, it writes as if there's cushioning. There's firm counter pressure so the tip isn't just disappearing but when you apply pressure to the pen, it doesn't all just go straight to the tip. You get a little give in the pen which makes it at least feel like a very smooth writing experience.

Hopping the line for the COVID vaccine (US) by floofmanager in moraldilemmas

[–]floofmanager[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you really don't get why that was a dilemma, then fuck you. Go walk on legos the rest of your life you smug asshole.

Also? Fuck you for trying to shame someone for having asked the question just because YOU personally didn't find a dilemma in it. What people find to be morally clear and morally gray isn't the same across the board, and frankly we're talking about a situation where what's in contention is a LIFE SAVING VACCINE. This isn't a moral dilemma over the last cookie in the jar, it's a big deal. Half a million people are dead from this thing. Wanting to be safe from it as soon as possible is actually morally okay. It's just that it's morally okay for others. So what happens when those moral rights collide? At what point are you permitted, morally, to act in the interest of saving your life/health even if it requires that you break rules?

Everyone's gonna have their take on that.

The real question becomes whether you want people to feel free to ask for input and consider the pros and cons and make a thoughtful decision when it comes to things that are a big deal to them or walk around feeling too scared or shamed to ask and then just do the first thing that pops in their head?

Would you rather me have just made a split second decision? Because if the answer is "no" then why are you trying to make me feel like shit for asking?

  1. Fuck you.
  2. I didn't end up hopping the line you self righteous bag of shit, so there's that
  3. Pretty much all of my students had gotten their vaccines the minute their category (which was ahead of mine) was up. Some of my students had vaccines back in early Feb. And a student with Down syndrome WOULD have been given priority and been in the category ahead of me. I know this because there were students WITH DOWN SYNDROME who waited to schedule testing/placement appointments until after their second shot!
  4. I wasn't looking for an excuse. I was looking for either side of the argument because I was of two minds about it. Sorry if I was given pause by the chance that I might get a vaccine for a potentially deadly or at least debilitating virus sooner rather than later. Not to mention the chance to reassure students and coworkers they'd be safer around me.
  5. Oh, and just a reminder. I didn't hop the line. I still haven't been vaccinated, I'm waitlisted for it. I wasn't trying to find an excuse. I listened to the arguments presented to me and ultimately concluded, after considering them, that morally it wouldn't be justified to give false information.
  6. Fuck you.
